Terris | 4214 comments Welcome to the 2024 Bingo Challenge, Sue! I'm so glad you chose Thérèse Raquin. It is a very interesting story and has really stayed with me! And it looks like we are both reading Scoop next year. I hope it's good. I'm reading his Vile Bodies right now because I need a book that begins with "V" to finish my "A-Z Title Challenge" for my 2023 Buffet. I've read different books by Waugh and he's kind of all over the map -- sometimes I really like him, and sometimes he's just "meh." I hope Scoop is a good one! I guess we'll both find out!!

Enjoy your challenge :)

At least we know we will have the Rabbit books to share next year, Sue. Bonus is they will mark off two more Pulitzers for us!

Thank you, Terris. I'm looking forward to Thérèse Raquin so it's good to know you loved it.

I've read 4 of Waugh's books and you are so right about his books being very different. I've liked or loved all the ones I've read. I'm looking forward to Scoop!

Looking forward to the Rabbit books with you, Sara and I love how they work for 2 BINGO squares! They also work in the new wonderful Series category in the Buffet! I used to try and make my challenges with unique entries, but with the way this year went I doubled up a lot. Now I'm making it a goal to use as many books as possible in multiple challenges.

Nike | 476 comments Oh, I love Therése Raquin! The funny thing is that while reading it (many years ago now but still so vivid in my mind) I didn't like it very much in the beginning. But it started to grow on me during the reading process and after I had finished it, it had stuck within me. One of the books that has made an everlasting and deep impact. I do hope you enjoy it. ʘ‿ʘ

That is good to know, Nike. I'll try to continue on if I'm not loving it.

That one is very iffy for me, Cynda. I picked it because it's on our bookshelf but I may use a Shakespeare I haven't read for that one

Cynda is preoccupied with RL (cynda) | 4987 comments Gor it. . . . I am sure we will read some group read together this year and will discuss that. . . Enjoy your bingo card :-)

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3676 comments The eight books I read in January are working really hard for me so I don't have to. All 6 here were used in 1 or more of my Old and new challenge. All of these were 4 stars or higher.

My favorite January read is House Made of Dawn

I'm trying hard, Connie. My busy time at work is here and the next few months could be slow. I'm happy with how far I've got and how much I've been able to make each book work on multiple challenges.

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3676 comments My only update for February is N1 Daisy Miller. It's not among my favorites from James but I still liked it quite a bit.

message 33: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5317 comments Hmm. A short Henry James. I need to try that one. Glad you liked it, and that it found a good home on your bingo board, Sue!

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3676 comments I'm only doing monthly updates for the most part but I just finished my first on in March and it gave me my first BINGO! Steinbeck's Cup of Gold was a 3.5 star read for me. It's well worth reading this early work of his based on the real life Captain Henry Morgan.

message 35: by Connie (new)

Connie G (connie_g) | 748 comments Congratulations on your first Bingo, Sue! I've never read "Cup of Gold," but I've enjoyed everything I've read by Steinbeck.

Laurie | 1881 comments Congrats on your bingo, Sue! I have noticed a couple of people have read Steinbeck books this year that I've never heard of. His oeuvre is larger than I realized and I need to start checking some of these lesser known books out. I typically enjoy his works.

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3676 comments I'm closing out this completed 2024 BINGO.
I didn't have much time this year for ŷ updates and updated most of this board in November & December with books I had read since March. It was still a surprisingly great year of reading , but I missed following everything on ŷ.

message 48: by Wobbley (new)

Wobbley | 2225 comments Yay, it's so great that you had a successful year of reading. Look at all those 5-star reads!
