Carolien (carolien_s) | 502 comments I actually made some progress in this regard in 2023 by putting together the challenge, so here goes another list:

I still think there is merit in sticking to dead authors as one then actually have a chance to catch up with a series!

1. Karibib #3 Vleisfees op Karibib by Isa Konrad
2. Amaka Thriller #2 When Trouble Sleeps by Leye Adenle
3. Darko Dawson #5 Death by His Grace by Kwei Quartey
4. Tannie Maria #4 The Milk Tart Murders by Sally Andrew\
5, Bennie Griessel #8 Leo by Deon Meyer
6. Constance Fairchild #3 Nowhere To Run by James Oswald Completed 2 January 3 stars
7. DCI Evan Warlow #11 The Light Remains by Rhys Dylan Completed 30 January 4 stars
8. Elaine Blake #2 Play the Game by G.B. Williams Completed 6 July 4 stars
9. Susan Ryeland #2 Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz
10. Detective Anna Gwynne #3 Before She Falls by Dylan Young, Completed 10 January 4 stars.
11. Shetland #8 Wild Fire by Ann Cleeves
12. Earthseed #2 Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler

Alternates:
13. Karl Alberg #8 Strangers Among Us by L.R. Wright
14. Discworld #40 Raising Steam by Terry Pratchett
15. Discworld #41 The Shepherd's Crown by Terry Pratchett
16. Karl Alberg #9 Acts of Murder by L.R. Wright

I have quite a few of the first in series, on my TBR. Good to see that you are into the series and like them.

This idea for a challenge is always a good one. You get to read comfort books, make progress on a series and keep things moving.

Good luck and happy reading, Carolien. 📚

Ah, LR Wright. I was so shocked when I heard she had died. I so enjoyed the Karl Alberg series and the start of her next one. I still have to start the Darko Dawson series. THIS YEAR! Great challenge idea.

Patricia | 1051 comments Several of these I haven't heard of, so I'll have to check them out. I've read both the Horowitz & Ann Cleeves. Two favorite authors. And, at least with the Shetland series, she did end it at a doable 10 books.
Happy Reading!

Lea (leaspot) | 3458 comments I agree with the merit of sticking with dead authors if you want to try and complete series. :-) :-) :-)

However, there are always other authors that continue sometimes, like The Wheel of Time series that I'm going to try and start to tackle next year. Sometimes the heirs bring in another author to finish it out, or authors wait until the works are in public domain in order to add more. Nothing is for sure, but yes, in general, I agree with sticking with dead authors to make any sort of progress. :-)

LOL, I haven't thought of this, but I can see how this might be a successful approach. 🤣 Good luck!

Not everybody on the "dead author" train... LOL

message 10: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1063 comments I'm a fan of Anthony Horowitz, good luck with your plans.

Yolande (yolandeandre) | 33 comments Love your list! I have Leo waiting for me and still want to read this trilogy from Isa Konrad.
Happy reading Carolien!

Denise (derickert) | 1240 comments I haven't read any of your selections. Good luck with your challenge.

Lillie | 1547 comments Ok, I read "dead authors" and then started perusing the list and went, "wait, these authors are not dead". That's what I get for skim reading, lol. You've got a fun list there. Enjoy :)

Mary | 73 comments Looks like a great list. Enjoy! I look forward to seeing what you recommend.

John (uneasyrhetoric) | 39 comments I finished Parable of the Talents yesterday. If you enjoyed the first one (Parable of the Sower), the second one will not disappoint.

Martha (marthas48) | 766 comments I haven’t read any so look forward to your thoughts on them. Happy reading!

Carolien (carolien_s) | 502 comments One down. Nowhere To Run is the third in the Constance Fairchild series by James Oswald. I loved the Welsh setting and mythology. I am compulsively reading my way through his other series set in Edinburgh.

Kudos on completing your first read, and yes, I added the first book in the series. LOL

The McLean series in Edinburgh is right up your street, borderline horror.

message 20: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 502 comments Second one done, Before She Falls by Dylan Young who is the same author as Rhys Dylan in the list. Definitely a series worth reading in order, solid police procedurals with a main character who I understand all too well.

message 21: by Linette (new)

Linette | 164 comments Wow, two down already!
Your list looks so interesting! I tried to add one to my tbr and found it was already there...ugh, time to get to it.
I'm going to check out the others. I'm also working my way through AC's Shetland, and love almost anything Anthony Horowitz puts out.

Carolien (carolien_s) | 502 comments Just did a little dance of joy to discover James Oswald is one of the speakers online at the Welsh Crime festival in April:

I'd also recommend the panel on Watery Graves, I'm reading my way through series by Marsali Taylor and Philip Gwynne Jones at the moment.
