Hey all! Latasha, Terry and I will be starting the 18th book in the Charlie Parker series around December 27th, give or take a few days.

I started reading already. I couldn’t help it! I’m gonna stop and wait for y’all. It’s really good and hard to put down. The timing seems a bit off to me though. I’m 77 pages in and there’s no mention of stuff that happened in the last book. And there’s this big about Jennifer and her mom (view spoiler)[ there’s mention of finding out who murdered them but I thought we already took care of him in the 1st or 2nd book? (hide spoiler)]

Still shooting for after Christmas. I’ve got to finish at least one of my reads before I can start.

I’m super glad it’s started off great! And if you need to read ahead Tosh, go for it. I know you have a library loan so you’re on limited time! 👍

I can’t start until after Christmas either. I have a sci-fi book for the competition I’m judging that I have to finish and it’s slow going. I’m glad to hear it starts so well though!

Nah it’s ok. I can renew it. I also borrowed My Darling Girl by Jennifer MacMahon and bought myself 2 mushrooms books for Christmas. So I can wait lol.

Cool! I just put a hold on My Darling Girl about a week ago. Excited to see what you think about it!

I just read a blurb in the front of my copy of this one and it noted that this book is a prequel story. Did you guys know that? I had no idea.

I was glancing at a review and it said this:

“You don’t need to read this in the beginning of this series.
In fact, you might read this first, go to the beginning of the series and be a bit disappointed since the writing keeps getting better.��

I definitely get the confusion. I was able to get started tonight and read up to ch10 (pg 48 in my copy). I forget every time how much I enjoy the writing of Mr. Connolly. It is just so easy to read and read and read these books. And I’m curious where this is going and wondering why we need this flashback (I love the idea!).

Completely get that Terry! I started last night and could not put this down. Got to chapter XXII, page 94.

I’m loving this plot. There is so much going on already and I like the characters of Griffin & Knight. Jurel Cade is a (view spoiler)[piece of sh!t. I do not like this dude. (hide spoiler)]

I’ve been reading this book for days! I just couldn’t put it down. Got to chapter LVI (56) and stoping. I guess I needed to read a gritty southern tale and this one is checking the boxes for me.

I love reading how Charlie was back in 1997. How his character has changed over the years has been enlightening.

No problem, Ginger. I just got up to chap XXII this morning and agree with your spoiler there. I'm really liking this flashback look at Charlie also.

I’m guessing we have missed some vital piece of info and that’s the reason for this flash back. That’s what I’m putting my money on.

Just gonna say the best scene in the book is with the truck, You'll know it when you read it.

Awesome Alan! I haven’t gotten to that part, so I’m excited for the foreshadowing.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what this plot ends up bringing to Charlie. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some vital piece coming to his character too.

I’m up to chapter 45. Not much has happened yet, they are investigating and trying to find leads.

I’ve only made it to ch39 so far. Interesting how this book, JC is not letting us know who the bad guy is yet. I’m suspicious of a lot of different characters at the moment.

So, I’ve just made it up to ch53. In ch47, we (view spoiler)[ get to see in the mind of our killer finally (seems like we get that earlier in most of these books) (hide spoiler)]. And now, in ch52, we (view spoiler)[see the bartender Dale has some of the Donna Lee’s hair and a ribbon. Do we think that he’s our killer? I can’t decide yet. 🤷🏻‍♂�� (hide spoiler)]

This has been one of those books that at Chapter 62, I still don't know who's the killer!

I really don't even have a clue and that's so unlike me. Connolly is trying to show direction this way with some of the forensic evidence, but I'm wondering if he's doing it intentionally while pulling the rug out from under me because it's someone else. LOL!!

Chapter LXXXVIII (88) - Holy hell, (view spoiler)[seeing Agent Woolrich in this chapter and giving advice plus friendship to Charlie makes me feel ill. To think this dude killed Charlie’s wife and child, and now he’s sitting there eating fries and shooting the shit. Wow. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter LXXXIX (89) - I love having (view spoiler)[Louis and Angel finally show up! (hide spoiler)] Can’t wait to see what happens now in the plot.

I’ll likely finish in the next day or two. It’s gotten to good and I’m having a hard time putting this one down. It just got full throttle at the end! 😂🤣

Between work and the sci-fi contest, I’m only about half way now. Sounds great Ginger! I’m excited to get that far and see what you’re talking about. 😁

You’re about at the point in the book that everything ramps up and starts revealing how dirty the south is! 😆😂🤣

Haha, I finished this one up this morning, and I was surprised (view spoiler)[ when it actually ended up meaning something, lol. I thought it was being done almost as a comedy aside, but I should have known better. (hide spoiler)]

I couldn't put this down over the weekend and ended up finishing (and blowing off a bunch of work I needed to do!). I can't believe how good these books continue to be. I completely enjoyed myself the entire time reading this one. And honestly, (view spoiler)[ I didn't see the end coming, either with who the killer ended up being, or the fact that the entire town and police force covered it up. And I love that we're left knowing it was Kel Knight who pulled the trigger at the end killing Nealus. (hide spoiler)] I really had fun!

I’m almost done. My niece stays with me so I didn’t get to read as much as I probably would’ve.
