Jack Dixon So I was just speaking with a friend regarding this topic. It felt a little weird to say that I had the "hots" for a character in a book. Have you ever felt this way? If so, what horror novel and character was it? Did you imagine a certain actor or actress portraying them in a movie version? Thanks for sharing.

Jack Dixon I really felt love for Agent Brad Wolgast in Justin Cronin's novel, The Passage. In my mind while reading, I saw the actor's face from the movie Insidious, Patrick Wilson.

Squire (srboone) | 1043 comments In another thread, I posted that Lisey Landon from Lisey's Story and Sussanah Dean from the Dark Tower series would make for fine dinner conversations. That's about as close as I can come.

Holly (goldikova) Wow, um, yeah. I can't name the literary hot stuff because it is just too perverse, but I do know that he has a weakness for petite redheads, so I think things will work out beautifully.

Tom | 340 comments All the time. My new one is Harry Hole from Jo Nesbo series.

Erin (ems84) | 8960 comments Having the hots for a character? I can't think of one but there could have been but there have definitely been times where I have a pictured a character as an actress or actor from a show/movie that is based on the book. Like right now that is all I think of with the Song Of Ice and Fire series.

The Dresden Files is more of an urban fantasy than a horror, but I'm really crushing on Harry Dresden, and if an actor were to portray him...hm...I'd want maybe Karl Urban or Jensen Ackles idk :P

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3030 comments Going a bit off Latashas answer I'm gonna say Lestat. He's just so cool and a total badass nonchalantly.

°¾±³Ù★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments I get book crushes all the time. It happens ;)
Tops for me is not exactly from a horror novel, but I'm mad for Roland Deschain from the Dark Tower series. Love him, like... love. Even when he's doing wrong... Just something about him.

Thanks Justin!

Jack Dixon I haven't read the Dark Tower series yet, but it's on my list. I love serial novels, especially when you love love love the character.

Jack Dixon Another character a Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ friend and I were crushing about recently was Tim Underhill in the Peter Straub novels "In the Night Room" and "Lost Boy Lost Girl". I had two actors in mind for this role, David Morse or Christopher Cousins. I love this character and agree that another novel with this character would be most welcomed! Ya hear that Mr. Straub?

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Hmmmm, interesting question. I looked through the horror books I've read and only saw one where I had an iota of a crush and it's on Ig in Horns. I pictured a tousle-haired boy next door actor like Paul Rudd (NOT Daniel Radcliffe).

For a non-horror book man crush, who hasn't had one on Atticus Finch or Gus McCall?

I know I have!

I do love and feel for Charlie Parker, John Connolly's detective that can see and hear the dead.
I loved Larry Underwood and Stu, both from The Stand, because they were good men, doing their best in the most horrible of circumstances.

Char | 17400 comments I forgot Michael Gallatin the werewolf/spy from Robert McCammon's The Wolf's Hour and The Hunter from the Woods. Tall, dark and green eyed... yummy!

message 19: by Jack (new)

Jack Dixon I haven't read any Charlie Parker or John Connelly novels. Sounds good! Is he comparable to Odd Thomas at all? Maybe without all the humor?

message 20: by Char (new)

Char | 17400 comments In my humble opinion, way better than Odd Thomas and also darker.

Couldn't agree more, Charlene! The original Odd Thomas was a very good book. The next couple had interesting parts, and I enjoyed them, but there wasn't much fresh about them. At some point I feel like he ran out of things to say but still kept writing books because they were making money, and I just gave up.

The Charlie Parker books number 12 and counting, 10 of which I have read, and Charlie keeps evolving and remains as intriguing as he did from the beginning. This is one of the strongest series of books out there, and they have it all (including quite a bit of humor as well, if that's your thing).

Char | 17400 comments Robert, I think stopped at around book 10 too. I think I own the 11th one. I guess I should read it. :)
I'm glad to hear you're a fan too. :)

I intentionally stay a book or 2 behind just so I'm never truly out of Charlie Parker books to read. He can't ever stop writing them! :-) I just finished Burning Soul a week or 2 ago, and it wasn't my favorite of the series, but it was still a great book. I really loved the one that focused on Louis' background - he's a fascinating character.

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 81 comments Stephen King writes such great characters I find it's easy to get attached to them....not really horror, but after just rereading The Dead Zone, John Smith was very likeable guy but Jake Eppings from 11/22/63 even more so-plus he could dance!

message 26: by kim (new)

kim (kimletporter) | 2 comments The first fictional character I totally fell for st the tender age of 12 was Louis from Interview with the Vampire. I had not seen the movie till much later. I might have outgrown Anne Rice but I look back on that time with a bit of nostalgia. Memnoch the Devil was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Redundant prose, a lackluster Mary Sue (Dora), and a plot that stagnated for chapters on end.

Those are both great ones, Joanne. I always felt so bad for John Smith.

I hear you, Kim. I loved Louis too, but I drifted away from Anne Rice's work for the same reasons you stated.
