Although numbered as a regular season, this is like a regular sub-challenge. For each round, you must read for each of the "tasks" without repeating any of them.

The modern Olympic Games began in 1896, and this year will be their most recent iteration. Read a book first published in each of the following year bands, each book to be written by an author born in OR citizen of a different Summer Olympics host country.
Each year band and each country can only be used once.

Year bands:
(A) 1896-1909
(B) 1910-1923
(C) 1924-1937
(D) 1938-1950
(E) 1951-1963
(F) 1964-1976
(G) 1977-1989
(H) 1990-2002
(I) 2003-2014
(J) 2015-2024

Host countries:
Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, USSR (including any former USSR country: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan)

Your first post should be 20.1, then 20.2, and so on, no matter what date range you choose first. To complete the challenge you will use all 10 date ranges in any order, and any 10 different countries.

Ex.: my first book read for this challenge might be
20.1 Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets by Svetlana Alexievich. Date range (I) (pub. 2013), country USSR (born in Ukraine).
Now I cannot use date range (I) or any USSR country again.

The challenge may be repeated any number of times, with all dates and countries available again when you start round 2.

Scoring: 20.1-20.4: 20 points
20.5-20.6: 25 points
20.7-20.8: 30 points
20.9-20.10: 35 points

Finisher bonus: 150 points

Please ask questions about this subchallenge here in this thread.

Heather (sarielswish) | 738 comments Are we including the surrounding islands and countries or are we restricting it to just Australia itself? In other words, are we including New Zealand and Papua New Guinea or no? I only ask because we're using the USSR as a unit and I'm trying to figure out if we're going to use Oceania the same way.

The only reason we're using the combined countries of the USSR is because it was the USSR (not "Russia") who hosted the Summer Olympics in 1980. Since Australia was the host (in 1956 and 2000) and not "Oceania," we will only accept authors born in or citizens of Australia.

We weren't sure about this one, because she could just have been a long-time resident of Canada, but I eventually found an interview where this author is asked the question and she replies that she does have Canadian citizenship (plus three others) at around 3.50 mins:
So yes, we will take her. Please mention this when posting your book.

If others have questions like this, please find a link that clearly shows citizenship.

Thanks, Rosemary! I'm just seeing this now for some reason - but I definitely didn't mean to send you on a wild goose chase! I'm sorry - but thank you for the effort!!!!
