This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players from April 7 to April 25.

Just when you thought Easter was over for another year! You are invited to join our UNO Easter Egg Hunt for some extra points in the last month of our team challenge.

Easter Egg Hunt
So many coloured eggs! Try and collect them all!

For each book your team reads with a cover that is predominantly one of these covers you can claim an extra 5 points. You can only claim one of each colour. If you do manage to collect at least one of each colour you will receive an additional 10 bonus points:
 Blue
 Brown
 Gold
 Orange
 Green
 Yellow
 Grey
 Purple
 Pink
 Red
 Black
 White

Easter Scavenger Hunt
Find these words... they are all products used to naturally dye eggs for Easter
For each book your team reads that contains one of these words in the text or title (plurals are acceptable), you can claim an extra 5 points per word found. Your team can claim each word more than once (there is no limit), HOWEVER, you can only claim a maximum of three words per book and each word only once per book. For example, if you find the word "tea" in your book 3 times, you can only claim 5 points. But it you find "tea" in your book and a team mate also finds "tea" in a book, you can both claim 5 points.

 Blueberry
 Grape
 Coffee
 Walnut
 Tea
 Dill
 Chilli
 Turmeric
 Spinach
 Chlorophyll
 Apple
 Beetroot (or Beet)
 Onion
 Carrot
 Paprika
 Cranberry
 Raspberry
 Hibiscus
 Red Wine
 Orange
 Lemon
 Chamomile (or Camomile)
 Celery
 Cumin
 Saffron

â— Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
â— You can't use the same book for the egg hunt and scavenger hunt. That means if you have a pink book that contains the words "saffron" and "grape" you will need to decide if you want to use it for the colour OR the words. It can not be used for both.
â— Books read between April 7 to 25 count for this mini challenge
â— The usual book length rules apply, Books must be more than 160 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 40,000 words using arbookfind.com
â— Team spreadsheets will be updated with an April Mini Challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Is Yellow supposed to be in the color list twice?

message 4: by Sarah (last edited Apr 06, 2015 07:56AM) (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments For the Scavenger Hunt, do the words have to be used in the context of the product used as the dye? I've already come up with "The Grapes of Wrath", "Adam's apple", and "orange" used as a colour not a food.

message 5: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments Can we use the word "beets" as well? I don't know that many people would refer to them as "beetroots".

message 6: by Perks Moderator, Know-it-all (new)

Perks Moderator | 559 comments Sorry, yellow should be once. I've updated :)

Sarah - the context doesn't matter, just the word, so your examples would all be ok

KayLynn - I'll accept both as I think "beets" is more of an American term

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Could this cover work for silver? Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

message 8: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments I think you can use it for white or grey (no silver on the list) ;)

message 9: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Thanks! I should finish my coffee before posting questions . . .

message 10: by jingles (new)

jingles Karen, will this work for brown book cover?

I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak

message 11: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments sure does Jingles. I'd love to know what it is like. Are you reading it?

message 12: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments For red wine does it need to be those words exactly or would reference to a bottle or glass of red do?

message 13: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments yes it does need to be "red wine" (as we are looking for the exact words not the context)

message 14: by jingles (new)

jingles Karen wrote: "sure does Jingles. I'd love to know what it is like. Are you reading it?"

Thanks, Karen!

I finished it yesterday. I liked it okay, but not nearly as much as I did The Book Thief. Maybe that is a bit of an unfair comparison though.

Sometimes it just seemed to lag, and I wanted it to hurry up and move forward.

With The Book Thief, the story pulled me in right from the beginning. This one didn't do that.

It is always hard when a writer has such an amazing book and then has to follow up. I'll still read it, but maybe I won't rush out for it then ;)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Jennifer wrote: "Would this Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles count for a pink cover?"

My husband says yes, so I'll listen to him and say yes ;)

message 18: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Karen, isn't it supposed to be the other way around - your husband is supposed to listen to you ;)

message 19: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments haha
I know, but I drive him nuts with getting his opinions on things for team challenges, so if I don't listen to him he may not help anymore... teehee

message 20: by jingles (new)

jingles Haha. Good strategy, that, Karen.

Dear Karen's Mr.:

This cover would count for what color?

message 22: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments lol Jennifer!
I'd say black

message 23: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer J. | 561 comments Wonderful! TYTY :-D

message 24: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Would this work for purple or grey? It's kind of a weird mix.

Paris Trout by Pete Dexter

message 25: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments That is an odd one. My husband says grey :)

message 26: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Okay thanks!

message 27: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 266 comments For "red wine" can we substitute types of red wine, like Pinot Noir, instead of "red wine"?

message 28: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Nope. Has to be exact words (so just "wine" won't count either) or a plural

Jennifer (jenibookworm) (jenibookworm) | 148 comments i really wish i had of been on good reads to sign up for this UNO challenge. I think this would have been alot of fun. I hope there is another.

message 32: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Are plurals allowed for the words e.g. raspberries and blueberries?

message 33: by jingles (last edited Apr 14, 2015 11:47AM) (new)

jingles Karen, will this work for a gray cover?

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3) by Cassandra Clare

And will this work for blue? Because it's such a busy cover, not sure there is enough blue here.

The Inn at Eagle Point (Chesapeake Shores, #1) by Sherryl Woods

message 34: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Sarah wrote: "Is "camomile" without the h ok?"

I googled, and I had some trouble finding "camomile", but it does seem to be a recognised alternative spelling of "chamomile" so it is ok

Jingles you're in luck. I asked my husband "what colour is that?" (nose turned... "ummmm grey?"
and "what colour is that?" (very definitive) "blue"

message 37: by jingles (new)

jingles Thank you, Karen! And thank your hubby for me :)

I always have the worst luck with cover colors. So I usually just ask because what looks purple to me, looks blue to someone else. LOL

message 38: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments lol I hear ya

message 43: by Laura (new)

Laura Hi Karen, are cranberry and craberry the same thing?

message 44: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Not the I can see. Cranberry is the fruit

message 45: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 516 comments Oh, I thought it was supposed to be cranberry haha, since there are so many other fruits etc on the list.

What is craberry, does anyone know? I can't google or wiki it because it auto defaults to cranberry...not that we've found the word yet either way lol, just wondering. :)

I found cranberry and asked because as you said craberry defaults to cranberry. I have no idea what a craberry is.

message 47: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Ah, now I see. Typo in the list ; it should be craNberry

message 48: by Laura (new)

Is this purple? The reader says she calls it mostly purple but a bunch of different colors as well.

All the Wrong Places A Life Lost and Found by Philip Connors
This looks grey to me. Is this ok?

OR...alternately for purple....what about this?
The New Girl (Fear Street, #1) by R.L. Stine

message 50: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments I've gone to my colour consultant (husband) and only 1 out of 3 I'm afraid. The RL Stine book is good for purple, but the other two he doesn't think work for the colours you've asked
