message 2: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments I have my copy ready to start on later today (Monday). Looks like two chapters a day will work Ok for me.

message 3: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Did you say you already have the next book in the series? What's it called?

I did pick it up. It is The Grave

Success!

message 7: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments I read the first two chapters. Of course, I took exception to the description of the mother in the first chapter - sounding old, not healthy, somewhat feeble, wrinkly . only to find out she is 55! I turn 55 this October- that is NOT old! 😁

message 8: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Lol. I was quite surprised as well. I don't think that's old either! I must say that I was quite confused at the start of the book. I had no idea why Cynthia had returned home until she had that conversation with her dad...lol. Then it made sense! I think she's opening up a bookshop? Pretty cool! What's up with that limousine? I have a feeling it might be the good doctor.

Terry | 5357 comments Glad I wasn’t the only one! It didn’t make sense to me until that discussion either. Very cool it’s a bookshop. Good question on the car. My very first thought was of the guy from NOS4A2,haha, but she is definitely not a kid.
I like we already have a couple of small references to the previous books with the library and burnt orchard.

message 10: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments I’ve read through ch4. A little slow going, but not a surprise since the other books were like this too. (view spoiler)

message 11: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Yes. I thought those references were cool as well:) I def feel like something is up with Cyd's family. The interactions with her mother are a bit peculiar. I know it has something to do with the doctor. He did something, and I can't wait to know what it is!

message 12: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments Up to the end of ch6. Still no clue what might be going on here.

message 13: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Me either. It seems like Cyd is as much confused as we are...lol

message 14: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments True!

message 15: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I read to ch8. I feel like reading 2 chapters is a bit much for me. They are kind of long and I feel like we are already through half the book! So i hope that's its ok if we read one chapter a day. Not much has happened other than Cyd being paranoid that everything that has been happening to her and her store is connected. I can't say I disagree. lol

No problem at all going with 1 per day! That works fine for me too.

message 17: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I read to ch 9 last night. (view spoiler)

Interesting guess! I’m curious to find out if you’re right. I certainly do not trust those Yarrows!

message 19: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Happy Fathers Day! Hope it was great! Now I gotta catch up on my reading!

message 20: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments Thank you! It was a great day. Hope you had a good one too. I was able to get through ch9. (view spoiler)

message 21: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments Didn’t get any reading done today (Monday’s stink!). Hope to have time tomorrow.

message 22: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I didn't either. We are going to an amusement park today, so I'll try to get some reading done in the car.

message 23: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments I’m jealous! That sounds like fun.

message 24: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments I’ve made it to the end of ch11. We’ve got to be getting close to finding out what’s going on, right?! We’re running out of pages, haha.

message 25: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I made it to chapter 13. I have to say that this book is really a slog...lol. I don't remember the others being so slow in the telling. I still have no idea as to what is going on. No knew info that I can't even put together a theory. The ending better be good!

message 26: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments The park was really fun, though being out in 90 degrees wasn't much fun at all. It's been much too hot here that I kind of can't wait for the fall:)

message 27: by Terry (last edited Jun 22, 2024 04:59AM) (new)

Terry | 5357 comments Made it to ch13 also. You are definitely right! This is a bit of a s l o w one, haha. I remember the others being slow to build up to the action, but not this much. Really, something has to start happening in the next chapter or nothing is going to.

message 28: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I went ahead and finished this morning. It started to get good and then I just wanted to know the answers. Not bad for being such a slog in the middle. I'm glad it turned out well because I was considering not continuing the series...lol

message 29: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments Nice! I'll try to finish by this evening, but may be tomorrow. Excited now to find out how it finally resolves!

message 30: by Terry (last edited Jun 24, 2024 10:38AM) (new)

Terry | 5357 comments I finished this morning. You’re right, much better ending than I was expecting. I liked it actually, haha. I did want to see if you saw something the way I did though. (view spoiler)

message 31: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments Otherwise, very cool with (view spoiler)

message 32: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I didn't get the reference to Disney's Sorcerer's Apprentice but maybe that's because I'm not familiar to it. I thought it was odd how Cyds throwing of the iron caused the Beast to change course but figured Rob was the one who lost control. I thought Kraylin went down pretty easily...lol...for all his power. I really liked the reference that Ed is already dead. Pretty good ending! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll have to track down the next in the series if you want to continue.

message 33: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I found The Grave on my kobo for like 3 bucks so if u want to continue we can. Just let me know!

message 34: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5357 comments We sure can. When were you thinking of starting? I could make time to fit it in just about any time.

message 35: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I'm finishing up a book right now. How bout end of July?
