I think that if it is published in a single volume, it would be acceptable.

Since we are changing the rules, just for one month, I'm going to break one of my own. Mike believed that moderators should not nominate books on the polls since they regularly get to choose books for the Moderator's Choice category. One book I have long wanted to read is Cane River, by Lalita Tademy. As it weighs in at 560 pages, I have been reluctant to select it as a Moderator's Choice so I'm going to nominate it here instead.
By the way, the Kindle version of this book is on sale today for only $1.99. Please forgive the shameless plug.

I was going to nominate Cane River but you beat me to it, Tom."
Funny. This would have been my second choice.

It was your questions about Grant that got us thinking about this idea. Are you sure you don't want to nominate it?

I was considering nominating Lonesome Dove as well, but it seemed to me to be more of a Western than southern.

I know McMurtry has been read here in the past, so thought I'd ask.
Hi Diane. Demon Copperhead is definitely long enough but we read it in January 2023 so it is not yet eligible. The discussion is still in the archives if you decide to read it and post your thoughts.

Looks like it was added to the nomination list, so apparently it is considered southern-themed. I'm glad, as I would like to read this one again.

I'd like to read this one as well.

That makes eight, so I guess the dance card is full. I'll post the poll at hte end of the month.

We are doing something different this month. Please read the information below before submitting a nomination.
Based on comments and requests from Trail riders, we have decided to experiment and make a change in we will be reading in August. In hope that many of you are enjoying vacations with more time to read than you usually have, we are going to have only one book poll but it will be a humdinger. We’re accepting nominations only for books with a minimum of 500 pages. Is there a southern-themed doorstop that you’ve been wanting to read for ages? Has it been 50 years since you picked up Gone with the Wind? Now is your chance to do something about it.
We will still consider books with a southern literary theme that have not been read by the group in the last 24 months. Nominations will be accepted for the next week.
Books with over 500 pages.
1. Complete Stories 19381959: A Spinster’s Tale / What You Hear from ’Em? / Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time / Miss Leonora When Last Seen / Other Stories, by Peter Taylor
2. Cane River, by Lalita Tademy
3. Look Homeward, Angel, by Thomas Wolfe
4. The Little Friend, by Donna Tartt
5. Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry
6. Gone with the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell
7. Texas, by James A. Michener
8. Peachtree Road, by Anne Rivers Siddons
Don’t worry. Next month we’ll be going back to our tried and true format.
