Nike | 38 comments 1. Authentic Aquarius - innovative, revolutionary Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr
2. Popular Pisces - dreamy, artistic One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
3. Active Aries - optimistic, adventurous Ingen rövare finns i skogen by Astrid Lindgren A wonderful children's story that's a small gem of phantasy, adventure and optimism
4. Tender Taurus - The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen maybe a little far fetched but surely a goat looks a bit like a small taurus? (The cover of the Swedish copy shows a faun, hence a goat(!) that leads to the Taurus... !)
5. Gentle Gemini - adaptable, curious Fallet från Eden E.P. Uggla A fantastic Swedish dystopian and sci fi trilogy (this is book nr 2) that I certainly do hope will be translated into English one day (and other languages). Now you can't share the delight with me. (Unless you know Swedish). The main character is very adaptable, more than she knows from the beginning. But she learns she is some sort of AI and made for being very adaptive. She is also curious and wants to understand what everyone else seems to have forgotten - what happened with Earth? Because she has got memories that noone else seems to have.

Ingen rövare finns i skogen by Astrid Lindgren Fallet från Eden by E.P. Uggla Hundra år av ensamhet by Gabriel García Márquez Den store guden Pan och Det innersta ljuset by Arthur Machen

Nike | 38 comments 11. Sweet Sagittarius - idealistic, wanderlust The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
12. Capable Capricorn - protective, noble The Road by Cormac McCarthy
13. A breath of fresh air: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving
14. Playing with fire The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
15. From the ground up Stockholmspesten av Sofia Albertsson Another Swedish dystopian Sci Fi novel. Very thrilling. Something is lurking in the shadows, in the basements, in the tunnels of the metro in Stockholm. Something is growing deep down beneath the city but now it's growing faster, up inside the walls, into the plumbing, it infects the water and starts growing inside the human beings as well.

Stockholmspesten by Sofia Albertsson Bilbo En hobbits äventyr by J.R.R. Tolkien Vägen by Cormac McCarthy La leyenda de Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

DivaDiane SM | 3630 comments Such a shame that none of those Swedish SF books have been translated! They sound interesting.

Yes, but there are others that are translated:

A Living Soul by P.C. Jersild
Kallocain by Karin Boye
The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist
Aniara by Harry Martinson
Amatka by Karin Tidbeck
Tales from the Loop by Simon Stålenhag

DivaDiane SM | 3630 comments Thanks for reminding me of those books! The first 3 l, I already have marked as Want to Read, the 4th I actually read and Amatka I have read. Only the last one is wholly unfamiliar. I think I need to create a shelf for originally non-English novels.

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 603 comments Stålenhag is mainly an illustrator and his books are graphic novels, often visionary. Electric State is being adapted by the Russo bros. Let's hope they do a better and more faithful job than Amazon did with the Loop.

I haven't seen the film yet but his work rendered quite some excitement in the media.

I highly recommend a book I've just finished and that is translated into English: Chain of Events by Fredrik T. Olsson.

Thank you!

Nike | 38 comments So I only managed to read 14 out of those twenty titles (I'm always joining a huge number of reading challenges). But I'm still content and the books I didn't read will probably be read during 2025.
