Here, we will discuss the prologue up to chapter eleven of The Bees by Laline Paull. Don't forget that if you are going to give anything away about the book please use (view spoiler).

Katie (katierebecca) I'm so excited to start this! Just bought on Kindle and will probably start later this evening. :)

Me too! I've heard it be compared to The Handmaiden's Tale and that's been on my TBR Pile since forever.

Katie (katierebecca) So I very much devoured the first eleven chapters... I am very intrigued. However, I'm really finding it hard to visualise the environment. I'm unsure whether this is down to the complexity of it or rather the lack of description. How is everyone else doing?

Beverly I am so glad that a book that I have not already read before was chosen so I can join the discussion.

I read the first four chapters about a month but will pick the book back up. I enjoy stories that look at societies especially through the point-of-view of mother nature and her orderly way of doing things.

Katie (katierebecca) I've suddenly found myself 70% of the way through... may just wait for some others to catch up, oops!

Louise (atrixa) I just finished chapter 11, and I've enjoyed the story so far. I'm also having a bit of trouble visualising what's going on. I've certainly never read anything like this before.

Agreed! I feel like I need to watch a documentary on bee culture to fully understand what's happening. I did find it interesting when Flora was discussing names of Bees and they reminded me of actual flavors of honey, but the actual gist of what's going on while interesting is a bit lost on me. I am enjoying the book so far.

Beverly Yes, I too want a little more visualization but am finding the story gets more interesting the more I read - probably settling into the author's writing style.

Finding the issues do not have "an in your face" feel that I guess I was expecting.

But I am liking Flora and her carefully crafted spunk.
