I'm going a bit early, but in August we will be reading The Exiles Return by Elisabeth de Waal.I have previously read Milton Place which I thought was wonderful, but this is my first time reading this one, (I feel like I am really making a dent in my unread Persephones at last, soon I may even be able to treat myself to more).

Who else is planning on reading this one?

I’m looking forward to reading this! I liked Milton Place, too. It seems so strange that both novels weren’t published until after the author’s death.

It does seem odd, especially with Milton Place, though I'm not sure she even submitted that one to any publishers. I'll have a look later and see if there is any information in the intro.

I just started The Exiles Return a few days ago and it is very well written.

I loved Milton Place, this one I'm finding harder to get into. I think it's another one where I could do with a chunk of time to just sit down with it.

A bit late, but I am starting today.

I’m about 70 pages in and sitting down this afternoon to read more. The setting of Vienna after the war is so interesting, but I’ve had a hard time getting into it—not sure why

Me too. I loved Milton Place, but this one has taken me so long to read. I just haven't found that I have wanted to pick it up. The separate characters and choppiness haven't helped, though the stories have combined to an extent. It has taken me about 3 weeks to get through, which is unusual. I hope to finish off tomorrow.
