A fairly repetitive sci-fi story written 35 years ago. Very frequent mentions of the blades protruding from the body of the Shrike, and lots of time spent in the desert around pyramids. There were some interesting, ideas though, including a TechnoCore of AI, who are powerful – they allow humans to exist. They occasionally interact with humans, but live themselves in some sort of digital plane humans can't comprehend, and whose physical compute location is a long-standing mystery.
