NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 10589 comments This is the story of a M-M romance between a teenage boy (I think he was 17 but I’m not positive) and a 24 year old scholar staying in his parent’s beachfront house on the Italian Riviera. The setting was glorious, and the family’s dinner parties formed a stimulating intellectual environment for the precocious teenager, with interesting work of his own. I enjoyed the descriptions of the discussions of music and literature. A trip to Rome for an author reading and party was also entertaining. It had to be an exciting weekend for the couple. The 24 year old was in his element, and the teenager felt accepted and more grown up. For much of the book (especially the beginning) the boy was obsessed with the man, and often angry. I didn’t find him particularly likable, but his emotional reactions were certainly understandable given his age and the situation. The age difference would bother me if I was his mother, but I don’t think it harmed him at all. I generally have no problem with consensual sex in a book, but some of the added details made me a little uncomfortable. The whole relationship felt realistic and emotionally raw. It was sometimes too intense (with repetitive thoughts and feelings), so my initial rating was lower. But I have to respect that the story felt more honest than other M-M romances.
