The Devil's Backbone by Ronald Kelly, Laurel Hightower and Red Lagoe
Ronald Kelly writes mainly Appalachian horror. I recommend Fear and Undertaker's Moon
as does Laurel Hightower like with Below
Devil's Creek by Todd Keisling
Memorials by Richard Chizmar comes out Oct. 22 and fits the theme.

Leslie Kurt | 5 comments I've never done a self-rec here, but I wrote Appalachian Siren. It doesn't involve folklore, coal mines, or haints. It does stay true to the Appalachian dialect (my roots), unlike some books that make it sound much worse than it is. It is splatterpunk and black humor, so it isn't for everyone. It isn't a spooky ghost story. The MCs are psychopathic hillbillies. Sort of a House of 1,000 Corpses or Natural Born Killers feel.
