There are a lot of very old editions of this book, but I’m going to try my best to correct errors based on what I can find doing internet detective work and looking at copies I have available. If images/Internet Archive links are needed, let me know and I will provide.
1. All Editions:
- The Original Title is incorrect. It should be Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II
===
2. 2004 Common Courage Paperback: Killing Hope: U.S. Military and C.I.A. Interventions Since World War II (ISBN 9781567512526)
- The publication year is incorrect. I can’t find a specific month or day, but the copyright page confirms it was published in 2004.
- The page count is incorrect. It stops at 469. However, the About the Author page is not numbered, but it is listed as page 470 in the table of contents. I’ll let the librarians decide how to count it.
- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows, transcribed directly from the back cover:
Is the United States a force for democracy?
From China in the 1940s to Iraq today, William Blum provides the most comprehensive study of the ongoing American holocaust.
===
3. Kindle: Killing Hope: U.S. and C.I.A. Interventions Since World War II--Updated Through 2003 (ASIN B00HFA93N8)
- --Updated Through 2003 needs to be removed from the title.
- The praise quotes need to be removed from the description. It should just read as follows:
Is the United States a force for democracy? In this classic and unique volume that answers this question, William Blum serves up a forensic overview of U.S. foreign policy spanning sixty years.
===
4. 2014 Zed Books Paperback: Killing Hope: Us Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II (ISBN 9781783601776)
- The title has a capitalization issue. Both letters in “US need to be capitalized.
- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows, transcribed from the back cover:
In Killing Hope, William Blum, author of the bestselling Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Superpower, provides a devastating and comprehensive account of America’s covert and overt military actions in the world, all the way from China in the 1940s to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and in this updated edition beyond. Is the United States, as it likes to claim, a global force for democracy? Killing Hope shows the answer to this question to be a resounding ‘no.

- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows, transcribed from the back cover:
A look at the effects, often devastating, that the U.S. military’s and the CIA’s little adventures around the globe have had on the political stability and peoples of the countries they meddled in. In not one case documented has the result been greater freedom or newfound peace. Among the CIA’s own files and those of other intelligence agencies around the world, Blum has found:
 hard evidence that a CIA unit was set up to train Uruguayan police in the finer points of torture;
 how operatives conducted a campaign to unseat an Australian Prime Minister who was opposed to the Vietnam war;
 how in Zaire, Mobutu was installed and supported;
 how U.S. training and target identification programs helped set up and run the death squads of El Salvador.
