Sasha List:
Interview With the Vampire-Anne Rice (Vampire Chronicles)

What I think:
Interview with the Vampire: Quite a heavy read, but really worth it. This novel is said to be the second most influential vampire novel of all time. (First being Bram Stoker's of course.)
Dead until Dark: Loved this book!!!

Ones I have read...(If it's a series, I am only listing the first book in the series to save time)

Twilight-Stephenie Meyer
Vampire Academy-Richelle Mead-This is in my top five favorite series ever. It's a young adult series, but I really enjoy the characters, and the new spin on vampires.

Evernight-Claudia Gray
Midnight Sun-Stephenie Meyer
Angels' Blood-Nalini Singh-this series is mostly about angel's, but vampires are in it as well. It is def. worth reading!

Sacrament-Susan Squires
Night World, No. 1 Secret Vampire; Daughters of Darkness; Spellbinder-L.J. Smith
Marked-P.C. Cast
Dark Lover-J.R. Ward-the first book in this series is a little slow, but it is an amazing series! The second books is a million times better than the first.

The Last Vampire-Christopher Pike
Dark Prince-Christine Feehan
The Silver Kiss-Annette Curtis Klause
The Awakening and The Struggle-L.J. Smith
Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side-Beth Fantaskey
Deeper Than the Night-Amanda Ashley

Marisa (psyko_kittie12) | 398 comments I have read the first 2 books in LJ Smiths Vampire Diaries series and I really enjoyed those.

Jackie M | 452 comments Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian is the first book in the Midnight breed series.

I can't think of anymore right now but will be back when I do.

Marked House of Night 1 - I really liked it. I thought that it started the series really well.

[Book: Betrayed (House of Night, #2] - Started off kind of slow but after a while it started to pick up pace.

Skulduggery Pleasant - Great childrens book and has excelent banter. It might not be just about vampires but they are mentioned!

Jessica Adams | 3 comments Sunshine is one of the best books of all time. She created a vampire novel that while not being the traditional dark evil vampire, somehow kept the dark mysterious thing that is a vampire without ever going mainstream with it.

I'm just going to add this one now before I go to sleep because I have a myriad of vampire novels I just can't think of at the moment besides my numero Uno Sunshine.

Elvia (elvb) Joy,
I've read Jeaniene Frost, MaryJanice Davidson, and Kim Harrison series and liked them all. I REALLY enjoyed The Night Huntress novels the best though. Second would be the Unwed series.
I still haven't tried Succubus Blues and I'm a big fan of Richelle Mead. I'll will read it eventually!

Jackie M | 452 comments Chloe Neill has a really good series well so far there are only two out but they are really good. It is called Chicagoland Vampires and the first book is Some Girls Bite and the second is Friday Night Bites. I really loved them I would say they are in my top five that I have read.

Kim Harrison's Sookie Stackhouse series as been amazing but you have to admit that the last two books were off in comparison with her previous books. And that last one she just created characters to kill them off.

What would you say drew you for Jeaniene Frost and MaryJanice Davidson? Their good points?

Mawgojzeta Has anyone read the book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson? Unlike the recent movie, it is actually a vampire story. Very dated, and certainly not glamorous at all, but a good book.

I did, quite a few years ago. I thought it was a really good story. Matheson is one of the classic horror/SF writers.

I preferred "The Omega Man" to the Will Smith movie version. I've also seen the earlier, B&W version, "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price.

Mawgojzeta I, too, preferred "Omega Man" to Will Smith's version. I have wanted to see "The Last Man on Earth" for a long time.

stormhawk | 1184 comments I just had a friend lend me a copy of In the Forests of the Night by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.

I ended up really liking it. She takes an entirely different take on the vampire legends, AND she doesn't make them sparkle.

Kristina | 778 comments I enjoyed I Am Legend. It was was much better than the movie. Although, I was upset when the dog died. I'd like to read more of Matheson's work.

message 16: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments I would suggest Hell House.

There is an extremely good movie version, with screenplay also by Matheson.

message 17: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments Sounds interesting. I'm going to have to check that one out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) Nobody has yet mentioned the original, and still the best: Dracula by Bram Stoker (though it is not, strictly speaking, a romance, it has very romantic parts). Some pals of mine on another site and I will be re-reading it in October. The best romantic movie version featured Frank Langella, although many prefer Love at First Bite.

LOL I love that you said that! I am completely relieved when I read a vampire novel that does NOT involve the vampires sparkling like diamonds. hahaha

stormhawk | 1184 comments DRACULAS - J.A. Konrath, Jack Kilborne, Blake Crouch, Jeff Strand, and F. Paul Wilson

Very different sort of vampire story. Kind of a vampire zombie bloodbath apocalypse. With guns and a chainsaw.

I read it on Kindle, not sure of other format availability.

Kerry Rockwood (fairheroseries) | 2 comments well - I have started my own series. Book 1 is out and I am currently writing book 2.

Much Ado About Russian The Fair Hero Series Book One (Volume 1) by Kerry Rockwood White

_______________________

"Oh God, I wanted to run. Please God, make my legs move. Then something happened that did make them move. Move faster than I could have imagined. The stranger outside my window snarled at me like a wild animal. And he had fangs."

Much Ado About Russian, book one in the Fair Hero Series, introduces us to Hero Fletcher, a single woman with her own graphic design business. On the eve of her thirtieth birthday, Hero meets a tall, dark and handsome stranger while celebrating at a Boston nightclub with her friends. Just what a single girl wants for her birthday!

Kinley McIntyre is not merely a hot guy who has a glamorous job dealing with antiques. Oh no. He just also happens to be a vampire. A vampire that gets his new flame tangled up in a mystery involving an antique Russian snuff box, and a cast of supernatural creatures Hero never knew existed.

Soon her world is turned upside down and inside out. Hero is being stalked by a creepy guy with fangs and an irritating, but ruthless, blonde Amazon. She can’t stay in her own home and needs protecting. But what to do when you find out the guy you’re dating is just as scary as the people you’re already running from?

Before she knows what's hit her, Hero is involved not just with vampires, but with shape shifters and faeries. And as if she doesn't have enough troubles, she unwittingly comes under the scrutiny of the austere vampire Magistrate and makes an enemy of a brutal Hunter. What’s a sassy, sharp-witted modern girl to do?

message 23: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Carmilla and Dracula the two best vampire stories ever written. Dead Until Dark kicks it of course. Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire series rocks. It is the only series I like. The first four books are just killer. You Suck is a great romantic comedy Vampire story.

message 25: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments I don't like series except for a couple. Those would be Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vamp Mysteries & Daren Shaun the Vampires Apprentice.
