Drace (dracenines) | 6213 comments There are errors to be cleaned up with The Troop by Nick Cutter.

1. US Hardcover: The Troop (ISBN 9781476717715)

- “First Edition should only be in the Formats field once.

- The page count is incorrect. I’m holding a copy, and it stops at 358.

- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows, transcribed from the jacket:

“It is a fact that cannot be denied: the wickedness of others becomes our own wickedness because it kindles something evil in our own hearts.
–Carl Jung

Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfire. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier. But for some reason, he can’t shake the feeling that something strange is in the air this year. Something wicked . . .

It comes to them in the night. An unexpected intruder, stumbling upon their campsite like a wild animal. He is shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry a man in unspeakable torment who exposes Tim and the boys to something far more frightening than any ghost story. Within his body is a bioengineered nightmare, a horror that spreads faster than fear. One by one, the boys will do things no person could ever imagine.

And so it begins. An agonizing weekend in the wilderness. A harrowing struggle for survival. No possible escape from the elements, the infected . . . or one another.

Part Lord of the Flies, part 28 Days Later and all-consuming this tightly written, edge-of-your-seat thriller takes you deep into the heart of darkness, where fear feeds on sanity . . . and terror hungers for more.

- The page count is incorrect. I’m holding a copy, and the page numbering stops at 358.

3. Older US Kindle Edition: /book/show/1...

- This is incorrectly labeled as an ebook. If you look into the edit log for this edition, you can confirm it is a Kindle edition and this was incorrectly changed.

- The publication date is incorrect. It should be February 25, 2014.

- The cover art is incorrectly set to a pre-publication version of the cover art. I know that changing cover art is not allowed unless the details can be 100% confirmed, but in this case, I can 100% confirm that it needs to be changed.

This is an archived version of the Amazon page for the Kindle book from October 2013, four months before the book was published. It is using the blue cover art with the island that is currently listed on this edition.

This is an archived version of the same Amazon page from January 2014, one month before the book was published. As you can see, it has been changed to the orange cover art with a person’s silhouette.

This confirms that the blue cover art was just a placeholder until the cover art was finalized, and it was changed to the orange cover art for when the book was actually published. Because the blue cover art was never actually used on any version of the US Kindle Edition, it needs to be changed to the orange art. Correct art from the archived Amazon page is here:

4. Current US Kindle Edition: The Troop (ASIN B00BSBR5DA)

- The page count is incorrect. It should be 529.

- The cover art is blurry. Higher-quality cover art is available here: //

5. Current US Ebook Edition: The Troop (ISBN 9781476717753)

- The publication date has a typo in its year. It should be August 16, 2016. Nick Cutter was not alive in the 3rd Century.

- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows:

Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip—a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfire. But when an unexpected intruder stumbles upon their campsite—shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry—Tim and the boys are exposed to something far more frightening than any tale of terror. The human carrier of a bioengineered nightmare. A horror that spreads faster than fear. A harrowing struggle for survival with no escape from the elements, the infected…or one another.

Part Lord of the Flies, part 28 Days Later—and all-consuming—this tightly written, edge-of-your-seat thriller takes you deep into the heart of darkness, where fear feeds on sanity…and terror hungers for more.

7. CD Audiobook: The Troop (ISBN 9781508283942)

- The page count is incorrect. It should be 11.

- Corey Brill needs to be added with the Narrator role.

- The description is incorrect. It should read as follows:

It begins like a campfire story: Five boys and a grown-up went into the woods. It ends in madness and murder. And worse

Once a year, scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a three-day camping trip—a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story and a roaring bonfire. But when an unexpected intruder stumbles upon their campsite—shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry—Tim and the boys are exposed to something far more frightening than any tale of terror. The human carrier of a bioengineered nightmare. An inexplicable horror that spreads faster than fear. A harrowing struggle for survival that will pit the troop against the elements, the infected and one another.

Part Lord of the Flies, part 28 Days Later—and all-consuming—this tightly written, edge-of-your-seat thriller will take listeners deep into the heart of darkness and close to the edge of sanity.

He felt something touch his hand. Which is when he looked down.

For the scouts of Troop 52, three days of camping, hiking and survival lessons on Falstaff Island is as close as they’ll get to a proper holiday.

Which was when he saw it.

But when an emaciated figure stumbles into their camp asking for food, the trip takes a horrifying turn. The man is not just hungry, he’s sick. Sick in a way they have never seen before.

Which was when he screamed.

Cut off from the mainland, the troop face a terror far worse than anything they could have made up around a campfire. To survive they will have to fight their fears, the elements…and eventually each other.

Winner of the inaugural James Herbert Award, THE TROOP is a novel that will not fail to get under your skin
