One Nomination per person (2 if you really can't decide).

The book you nominate can be anything related to Vampires.

Nominations will be open until the 10th of March.

message 2: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I thought a vampire classic would be cool, so I nominate Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. It's narrated by a young woman who becomes very close friends with the beautiful stranger Carmilla, who is found stranded and comes to stay with her at her father's castle. But of course Carmilla has a dark secret...

It's a classic gothic tale about the beautiful, erotic vampire, and looks like a fantastic read. A lot better than Dracula by the sound of it...

It's a fairly short story, and since it's a classic you can download it for free here:

Sounds really interesting!! Adding it to my list :)

I Nominate The Awakening by L.J. Smith. Very interested to see the difference between the books and the series.

The Awakening (The Vampire Diaries, #1) by L.J. Smith

Ooh I dont know!
Um well as I just started watching Vampire Diaries I'd nominate that, but I've got a good feeling that most of you have read it?

message 5: by Heather (new)

Heather Tribe (tribefox) Hmmm..I'll nominate Fallen by Lauren Kate. The story sounds interesting. I love the other nominations though...

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments I would like to nominate:

1. Fevre Dream By George R.R Martin

2. I am Legend By Richard Matheson.

Both are books that I have wanted to read for awhile now and I have heard good reports about them.

Cool :) I've been wanting to read it for such a long time too, and I never got around to it. I think I should read it soon whether it gets chosen or not.

message 11: by Heather (new)

Heather Tribe (tribefox) George RR Martin is great! I love his fire and ice series. I was thinking of nominating it for May if we do fantasy..

message 12: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments I also have his fire & Ice series Heather which is on my ever growing TBR list lol, so maybe I will nominate it also when Fantasy comes up. I nominated these Vampire books as they are not the norm and I like that about books especially when they step out of the box.

I read Fallen a few months ago Heather and hated it! It was like watching paint dry and I eventually gave up. The book cover looked really good thats why I read it. Have you read it? Did you enjoy it?

Nope haven't read it, that's why I nominated it :)

message 15: by Lerize (new)

Lerize (atalanta) | 70 comments I've heard that the Black Dagger Brotherhood series is rather good. But otherwise I'd also like to read Vampire Diaries (I get home too late to watch the series on TV).

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah then I hope it wins!!!!!!! :)

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahsetar) | 47 comments I nominate The Awakening by LJ Smith, even though I've just finished reading it. I loved it and I've already started on the next book in the series.

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather Tribe (tribefox) Oh thats a shame. I was hoping from the story line that it was a good one. Oh well...glad you saved us. I'll try to come up with another one that no one has chosen yet...

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Heather I would still read Fallen if it was a book you were looking forward too. Everyone has diferent tastes dont they and what suits one person doesnt suit the other. There are many books that I have enjoyed that some havent and vice versa so just give the book a shot. I wouldnt go out an buy it though, just incase lol :-)

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with Emma...
I nominate the Sookie Stackhouse books as well, havent read them, but according to lots of people I have spoken to they are pretty good

message 22: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Love Sookie Stackhouse books, I havent read all of them yet, the next book for me in the series will be book 7, but I have so many books to read at the moment. I also Loved Black Dagger Brotherhood and found them highly addictive! They are definately adult only! I wasnt that impressed with the last one though.

It seems it is going to be quite dificult to vote for a book for April as there are so many good ones to choose from.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, Lu has mailed me all the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, so I dont know which to read either! I love all these vamp books, maybe we should just have this theme repeated in a later stage...

I will probably get around to it eventually. But there are so many out there to read! I have ONLY read one vampire series...can you guess? Twillight! So I'm looking forward to getting into another series.

They are really great...once you start reading you cant stop. I've gotten so many people hooked on his series. Btw...I've also met George RR Martin in person at the San Diego Comic Con and I have one of his talks about his writings if your interested.

message 28: by Sonette (new)

Sonette | 384 comments Heather wrote: "Hmmm..I'll nominate Fallen by Lauren Kate. The story sounds interesting. I love the other nominations though..."

Heather: I did not think fallen was boring at all! I enjoyed it although it is very edgy. Can't wait for Torment! The next book in the series. However Fallen is not about Vampires, so I don't think it qualifies for a vampire theme.

Lu & Others: Planning to read Vampire Diaries Series myself, seeing as the series is so good. So I support the proposal for The Awakening although the Carmilla suggestion sounds very interesting. How hard is the book to come by? Have not seen it in any of my normal haunts?

message 29: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Sonette wrote: "How hard is the book to come by? Have not seen it in any of my normal haunts?"

DO you mean Carmilla? Hmm, I've only ever seen a copy at my university library, but decent public libraries should have it too. It doesn't seem to be that well known among fans of modern vampire novels, but it's well known among those who love Gothic lit, and classic vampire lit, so there are definitely plenty of copies available.

If you don't want to read the e-book I gave a link for, then you can print it out - it's about 80 pages. I also have a Word document that's only 40-odd pages. If you want that to print, PM me with your email and I'll send it to you. If anyone else wants it you're welcome to do the same :)

I tried to think of another one but there are already so many great options nominated...I'll probably just second Fevre Dream by George RR Martin. Thanks Lu!

If it's not too late I'd like to suggest Necroscope by Brian Lumley. I read the series a few years back and it has a very unusual take on vampires.

In the Balkan mountains of Rumania, a terrible evil is growing. Long buried in hallowed ground, bound by earth and silver, the master vampire schemes and plots. Trapped in unlife, neither dead nor living, Thibor Ferenczy hungers for freedom and revenge.

The vampire's human tool is Boris Dragosani, part of a super-secret Soviet spy agency. Dragosani is an avid pupil, eager to plumb the depthless evil of the vampire's mind. Ferenczy teaches Dragosani the awful skills of the necromancer, gives him the ability to rip secrets from the mind and bodies of the dead.

Dragosani works not for Ferenczy's freedom but world domination. he will rule the world with knowledge raped from the dead.

His only opponent: Harry Koegh, champion of the dead and the living.

To protect Harry, the dead will do anything--even rise from their graves!
