Tracy (taj0257) | 36 comments Well I just found this group and I am happy to report that I have already read 26 books this year so far so I hope that I will make if not break the 50 book challenge.

If you'd like to see what I have read please befriend me and take a look at my list, I have shared reviews on a few.

I look forward to feedback from others in the group and welcome recommendations. I prefer fiction and am pretty flexible as to the variety of books I enjoy.

Tracy (taj0257) | 36 comments The Help by Kathryn Stockett

finished this book today and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have seen this book for quite a while now and hesitated to take it up thinking it wasn't interesting, WRONG! this book is great! I was immediately transported to Jackson, Mississippi and the beginning of the civil rights movement.

Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife Pride and Prejudice Continues by Linda Berdoll

Normally I am not a huge fan of romance novels; however I love Pride and Predujice so much I could not help myself but to read this and I loved it! I could hardly put it down but to take care of personal needs, in fact I forwent an entire night of my favorite television shows to read this book.

Mr. Darcy as expected took my breath away and who wouldn't want to be Elizabeth I ask you.

The only part of the novel I truly thought was a let down was the story of poor John Christie, such sadness for that character throughout the entire book, could the author not cut the poor boy some laxity and provide him a happy ending instead of a horrid death done by his own (althoug unbeknownst to him) father! And pray tell why could his treacherous father the infamous Wickum not met a just and painful end instead?

Thankfully there was happiness in the end for our hero and heroine and all ended blissfully happy.

Oh and lest I forget, the sex written into this novel was pretty racy and altogether good.

The Diary by Eileen Goudge

Just an ok book that can be read relatively quickly due to it's mercifully short length.

Little Bee by Chris Cleave

heartbreaking, wish it had a happy ending

The Immortal Hunter (Rogue Hunter, #2) (Argeneau, #11) by Lynsay Sands

these are all practically the same, just the names and circumstances change, but it's a quick fun little read with hot sexy vamp guys and hot sexy sex

God Is Not Great How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens

Bravo Mr. Hitchens! You have put into word what I have always thought but did it with a better vocabulary and much more study.

Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken

If you read Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #1) by Kristin Cashore and liked it then you won't go wrong reading this one. Young love, wizards, duels, mortal danger...what more could you ask for?

I found this book very entertaining and a super easy, fast read.

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

At first I thought this book was going to be a dissappointment, but turns out it's pretty damn good afterall...hate to waste my time reading something that's not entertaining.

For those of us who've been out of high school (for quite some time), it transports you back to that clique ridden time and the angst of it all. You relate to the character of Sam because regardless of what group you belonged (or didn't belong) to in high school, you get what it's like.

I love the day she's a "bad" girl and I love her last day too...I only wish it could've turned out different in the end. As usual I would like a happy ending and in a way I got one, but not the one with whipped cream and a cherry on top ya know.

Light Beneath Ferns by Anne Spollen

unspooky ghost story that is quite enjoyable and a super super quick read.

The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen

This is a magical beautiful story, I couldn't put this book down once I started!

There are duelling stories between Julia and Emily. Julia learns to come to terms with her past and Emily has to live down her mothers history. Such a wonderful story and it has a happy ending! (my favorite)

The Body Finder (Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting

I liked it and it her ability to locate the murdered by some heightened sense was pretty cool. I may be intrigued to check out more since this is seems to be some type of series.

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

I have to say this is one fucked up chick in the beginning of this novel and it takes her many miles and many months before she is able to put herself "right" again.
I personally am not a spiritual person and I don't believe in God in any form, but mystical "stuff" is fascinating though as untrue as Santa Claus. I think her journey to find god ended in her really just finding herself and that is something I can get behind, knowing yourself, knowing who or what you are and finding strength of character.
Reading this book just reiterates how much I myself would like to travel to beautiful and exotic places (maybe not India) and learn Italian and eat gorgeous food.

Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

Enchanting and magical, this author loves her quirky little southern towns with odd, flawed and "charm"ing characters.
I will continue to read what she puts out because it's just so sweet to read.

The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen

More of a ghost story than her other works that I've already read but some of that magic is still within these pages. Like Rawley Pelham's ability to keep a promise and the way water boils and eggs fry from Chloe and Jakes passion for each other.
A "good read" so to speak and definately worth the time. I look forward to her next novel.

The House on Tradd Street by Karen White

A ghost story/ treasure hunt/ murder mystery of a book not to mention a rakish handsome leading man and your typical beautiful but hard headed femme fatale. I plan on reading the next one from this author as it continues the story of Melanie and Jack and maybe they'll finally kiss let alone consummate their relationship.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Oh what a thrilling and appropriate ending to this trilogy. The only thing and truly this is the only thing I don't like about Katniss is that she is so very fragile, but I understand why the author made her so, because otherwise she wouldn't be as likeable and I love her. I am glad who she ended up with in the end (I won't reveal here just in case you want to read the book yourself) but the ending is so very sad, the only part that made me cry.
If you haven't read this series I highly recommend it. Book one is The Hunger Games (Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins ; followed by book two Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins

A Horse of Her Own by Annie Wedekind

This is the kind of book I would have read 30 years ago during my "horse crazy" years as a young girl. I would've loved it then and I really liked it now as an adult because it reminded me how much I too loved horses when I was a kid.

The Girl On Legare Street (Tradd Street, #2) by Karen White

Ok Karen White, I officially hate you! ...**SPOILER ALERT**.. I thought for sure you'd bring our heroine Melanie and our hero Jack together in this book and so looked forward to it, a reader can only be teased so much ya know and again you did not. This exasperates and disappointes me and makes me want to give you up bc I hate being toyed with and enough is enough if you know what I mean.
This mysterious ghost story is worth reading for the uncovering of the mystery but the love portion of the story leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Come Ms. White, its really in bad taste to do this to your readers. Shame on you.

Early to Death, Early to Rise (Madison Avery, #2) by Kim Harrison

love me some Kim Harrison (though I prefer the Hollow series better)!!

I think I am going to enjoy this series as well though and look forward to learning about this world of supernatural too.

A Lion Among Men (Wicked Years, #3) by Gregory Maguire

The third book of Oz told the story of the Lion as the title suggests. I hard a somewhat difficult time since it'd been so long since reading Wicked and Son of a Witch, some of the characters were not so easily remembered. I suggest you try to read the books in as much succession as possible, though the 4th and likely final book is yet to be writ.

I did like this book much better than Son of a Witch (Wicked Years, #2) by Gregory Maguire but obvioulsy not as much as Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Wicked Years, #1) by Gregory Maguire . A Lion Among Men hints at the end that perhaps Elphaba may be returning in the 4th book, who know? I certainly wouldn't mind. I look forward to the final book and I may just have to re-read the first 3 before doing so as to make sure I am up to speed on all the characters and story.

When Autumn Leaves by Amy S. Foster

Magical and interesting but I can't help but think I read a compilation of stories rather than a novel and though I liked the book I did find it lacking in many aspects. I am sure it was the authors intent for us to draw our conclusions on the outcome of these seperate stories, but I really dispise that. I don't read to make up my own endings, I want the author to give me the endings either happy or sad.

So like I said, I liked the book but was left with a sense of unfinished story telling too.

Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon

Pretty damn good. I actually would like to know what happens to Lucy though, hate being left off like that, not knowing. I had pretty much figured everything or who "everyone" was, which I love to do, figure "it" out before the author tells you what the "it" is. So I'd recommend it.

Riders by Jilly Cooper
This book is definately recommended for horse lovers out there, but it also has a good bit of romance in it too for those of you who like that sort of thing. Good sex parts too. But it's massively long, as in 704 pages so be forewarned.

Born to Bite (Argeneau Vampires, #13) by Lynsay Sands
Well it took me forever to get back on the reading bus, but I'm here and it feels good.
I started with this book because these are always easy, quick reads; which it was.
The books in this Argeneau series all follow the same rules, hot vamp guys/girls, sexy sex, some kinda mystery plot to figure out.

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
No wonder it took me so long to read this book, I didn't like it in the least. I have sympathy for the characters of the book but I just hated the style in which the book was written and I didn't care for the story much at all. I am surprised I made myself finish it, but finish it I did!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson
Much much much better than anticipated. The first couple of pages were kinda boring until it finally picked up and kept my interest. Salander is a flawed femme fatale that you absolutely love. She's a tough little genius who doesn't trust a soul and probably for good reason, but the novel only hints at a traumatic childhood, it never gets into the meat and potatoes of her past.

Salander and Blomkvist are a great team and they develope trust that Salander isn't used to feeling. The mystery they unfold concerning the disturbing sudden disappearance of a wealthy man's niece is bone chilling.

The only thing I don't like about this novel is that it takes place in Sweden and the names of people and places is damn hard to figure out the pronounciation, for example how the heck do you say the main characters name? Blomkvist? or the town of Hedestad?

Anyway, well worth the read and I am definately going to check out The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson

Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King

King is the master of story telling. I never tire of his work and always look forward to something new.
These stories have just enough suspense, horror and frightfulness to them. I enjoyed them thoroughly.
