Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Whether its because they write different genres or because the publisher prefers it that way, there are a lot of authors out there writing under multiple names. Some are well known: Nora Roberts' alter ego is J.D. Robb. Others are a little more obscure: Ann Aguirre is Ava Gray. If you're like me, you like to track down other works by a favortie author, so I thought it would be nice to have a list of known pseudonyms. The following list consists of ones I could think of off the top of my head that also edge over into the PNR/UF fields. Any additions would be welcome. I'll add them to the main list as people comment and I'm also open to any suggestions for improving the list. Steph, I debated what folder to put this in so if you think another location is better, just let me know.

Steph (angel4492) | 32299 comments Found another one today:
Laura Bickle = Alayna Williams

Makes me wonder if I'll enjoy AW's "Oracle" books when LB's "Anya Kalinczyk" book #1 was just ok for me. Hmmmmm, time to find out, me thinks :)

Sandra | 25756 comments Yes Steph, that was one that came yesterday, read it and let me know. LOL.

message 11: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32299 comments LOL! It's high up on my TBR list b/c of the "Dark Side", so just might. But, I have to say, after finding out her pseudo I'm a little less excited about it. Bad, but true. Think that's a reason for pseudo? >:)

I might be wrong about this, but I think when an author registers a book under copyright law, they have to do it under their legal name? So in any book, if you look at the page with all the legal guff, there's a line where it tells you the copyright is held by [author's name], and that tells you who it is regardless of pseudonym. Which is kind of handy if you want to check out what else they've written under their real name, and kind of creepy if you're a stalker who wants to creep into their house and fall asleep in their knickers drawer.

(What? Like you've never wanted to...)

LOL!

message 17: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25756 comments I know all my early Jayne Ann Krentz books copyright was under her pseudonmyms so don't know if the law has changed. That is how I knew who she really was, by stalking the copyright page along with all the other pages of the books. Hey, I was a teenager, I was allowed.

message 18: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Mar 30, 2011 09:28PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32299 comments LOL Moss!!

I noticed how JR Ward's re-released copies of her An Unforgettable Lady (An Unforgettable Lady #1) by Jessica Bird and others, show on the cover JR WARD (in big letters) "written as Jessica Bird". I'm curious ... you think her JRW bks are sellin' like hotcakes and her JB bks weren't so she thought, "Well, screw that, I'll have them print my best-selling name on there to increase sales"? What's the point of the psuedo at that point anyway? You apparently sold them under Jessica Bird for a reason and now why the change? Bugs me, dunno why. LOL!

message 19: by Sandra J (last edited Mar 31, 2011 05:41AM) (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 145 comments I'm sure that was the publisher's idea to get fans of Ward's books to read her earlier contemporaries. Authors often change pen names to separate the different genres they may write. Jayne Ann Krentz is for contemporaries, Amanda Quick is for historicals, and Jayne Castle is for futuristic. Lots of authors use pen names.

message 20: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments I always wonder how they choose their pen names...

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I think there's going to be some sort of feature regarding "author pseudonyms", according to the newly updated Infamous To Do List.

message 24: by CyberAlmu (new)

CyberAlmu | 302 comments I never quite understood the thing about pseudonyms...
I'd name myself something else if I wanted to, say, target at readers of another genre, or with the name of a man.... but some of those name are too similar

message 25: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32299 comments Cool, thanks for sharing, Ames. Love the new feature adds. Most, anyway. LOL! :)

message 26: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I don't know if it's still true, but in the past a publishing house might "own" a name, especially on writers just being discovered. The House would have exclusive rights to that author's name. So if A usually publishes romances and wants to release a SF/Fantasy with a different publisher, then she has to choose name B to put on that book. Hope that's clear and like I said, I'm not sure if this is still true or not.

Entirely possible - I've got a couple of pseudonym author books that are copyrighted to the publisher, rather than a real name. It could be just to hide the author's privacy though.

message 30: by Regina (new)

They have a new novel/series being released in June Nightfall (Dark Age Dawning #1) by Ellen Connor

message 33: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I go back and forth about pre-ordering it. I think it looms great.

message 34: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32299 comments I haven't pre-ordered it, but do have it on my watch list. Can't decide either. I'm sure I'll end up buying it, just maybe after release vs. pre.

message 35: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25756 comments Just checked BD, they are accepting pre-orders for all 3 books at trade size prices, so over US$11.

Whew ... expensive. So not the way to get people to read a new series. Hate how they bring out trade size first and then they may bring out MMP later.

message 36: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32299 comments That sucks. I'll be waiting then, or goin' for eBook.

message 37: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Nightfall is $9.99 in ebook!!! Thus the reason I am not pre-ordering. For an unknown I will wait. Happy to pay that for a fave just not an unknown.

Steph (angel4492) | 32299 comments Same. And Wow. Trade size & $10 e??

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Just stumbled on this thread. Don't have anything to add, but I absolutely LOVE Sydney Croft and had no idea she was also Larissa Ione.......I have the books, just haven't gotten around to them. MUST PUT ON "GOTTA READ IT NOW" pile.
