My exciting (more likely exhausting!) plans for the weekend include checking out possible wedding venues with our daughter and future SIL.
I've had very little time to read lately :( and have had to set aside my enjoyable Canadian book, The History of Emily Montague by Frances Brooke, for an overdue library book, This Body of Death by Elizabeth George.
I just think of it as an all-purpose establishment, depending on the mood, the weather, and the time of day. :)
I spent most of the day tuned into my iPod (listening to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo )and tuned out of everything else. I hardly noticed when the Leafs lost again...

Lucky Barb. American Gods is somewhere in the middle of Mt. TBR, so you'll have to let me know what you think of it.
Anyone going out for Halloween? If so, what are you dressing up as?
I'm boring. Staying home like any other weekend. My mother (who's 68) is dressing up as Lady Gaga and going out dancing.

Weekend now worse than boring. Torture. I've got to go out and get new shoes. Don't get me wrong, I love new shoes as well as the next girl who loves new shoes. But my feet are wide and my instep is high. It's very, very difficult for me to find shoes that fit. Wish me luck...

Sounds like fun. Let's see, who's on the sked....Toronto & Montreal, Chicago & Vancouver. Sweet.

The tribute was really well done. I would say I hope he's at peace wherever he is, but I think he'd get bored if everything were too peaceful.

Even better are Scott Oake's tweets on Twitter. If you have Twitter, you should follow him.
The last I saw of Kelly Hrudey they were showing him film of several incidents involving very personal bits and hospital visits that ensued. He was an unpleasant shade of green.

Obviously, the weather gods did not want everyone to forget what winter is supposed to feel like in the Great White North.

They need a new topic for Hot Stove that doesn't include a Crosby/Ovechkin debate.
Okay, so is anyone here doing anything for Grey Cup? Or is everyone like me and basically ignores the whole shebang?

It looks like a snowy winter wonderland out there now. Much better than the rain we've been having.

Well here in Winnipeg we've already had 2/3 the snow we had all last winter, most of it in the last week. Because I have shoveled every day while the snow was still pristine (once in the morning before leaving for work and once when I get home), even though I had mountainous snow banks all around my yard, it did still look like a winter wonderland. I say "did" because it did until the arse from ACROSS the street plowed his driveway AND the street in front of us and deposited all the dirty, sand-filled ugly crap in MY yard. I swear, even if it takes me all winter, sneaking out in the dark of night, I'm going to put every single filthy lump of it back into HIS yard.

I may still do that, just for the satisfaction and to see him scratch his head in the morning. But it turns out that the city snow-clearing crew has either deliberately wreaked my revenge for me or they just saw that his side of the street was conveniently lacking in snow banks. Either way they've now plowed some pretty sizable dirty banks into his yard. Heh heh.

I did my MA at UofT, but I'm not sure if any part of my own personal experience would be generally applicable since my program was kind of isolated from the main school. What are you planning to study?

I've been watching. He was wearing a white jacket with multicoloured flowers. And Marcus Naslund is a sweet guy (not to mention hot). And the Leafs won against Montreal (what could be better?).

Yesss...definitely watched the Nazzy tribute. Attractive, gracious, well dressed, and a division rival. Oh well, we can't always have it all in life. My family was less than pleased that I watched.

Global climate change...bah. A couple feet of snow and below 0 here.
It's been kind of quiet here lately. I guess everyone is out shopping, inside baking, or trying to weather the weather.

How's everyone's holiday looking?
My Christmas shopping day is tomorrow. I'll let you know how I hold up. Baked some eclairs today, but my mum's oven wasn't hot enough (she thinks), so they didn't really rise all that much. They turned out flat and wide instead of cylindrical.

Sounds lovely. What was your book?

I only got one book this year, but it was one that I've wanted for a long time.
