Yikes, Janga! There were SO many books I truly loved this year as well. I'll have to mull over it for a bit :)
Wow. That's a hard one. I think maybe Billy Bob Walker Got Married, by Lisa Brown, which I read for the first time this year. Among books published this year, I think it was Forbidden Rose by Joanna Bourne. But I also find myself really drawn back to Jill Shalvis' Instant Temptation (recent, but not this year)--there's something about it that really captures the way both hero and heroine love the wilderness and how it draws them together, that calls to me. (Runners up include The Iron Duke, and Trial by Desire, and Red's Hot Honky Tonk Bar.)
I haven't read as much in the way of "other" books as I wish I had this year (it was a hard year in various ways, so I read to escape a lot.) I liked Sharon Shinn's new book Troubled Waters a lot.

Dls, I've read all those you mentioned but the Shalvis and agree that all are extraordinary books. Forbidden Rose is in my top 12 for 2010.
Janga, I'd love to know what your top 12 are!
I can't quite say what it is about the Shalvis...its not a great book the way the others are, but it calls to me...Its definitely my favorite by that author.

My list is on my blog, Dls.
If you scroll down the posts listed on the left, you'll find my top "other" reads too.
I don't want to use the group to pimp my blog, so I generally avoid mentioning it.

Picking just one is so hard. I just looked at my list of books read this year and every time I see a title I remember how much I liked it.
Top 3 would be Last Night's Scandal by Loretta Chase, The Wild Marquis by Miranda Neville and Silent Scream by Karen Rose.
Some others I really loved were What the Librarian Did by Karina Bliss, Unspeakable by Laura Griffin and The Accidental Wedding by Anne Gracie.
There are quite a few making other peoples' Top 10 lists that I haven't even read. Haven't read The Forbidden Rose yet. Haven't read The Iron Duke. Just not enough time.

Thanks Janga! I have GOT to check your blog more regularly! I find myself remembering it every month or so and then reading great chunks at a time. What a great list for 2011 also! (Although, FYI, Sherry Thomas' website says she has 3 books in 2012 but none in 2011.)

Yay! A convert! Janga hooked me on Anne Gracie and now I've hooked you. It's the circle of life...or something;)

Hmmm, my TOP read of 2010? The book that stands out the most for me is The Devil Wears Plaid by Teresa Medeiros. I think because it was my first Medeiros and I have the hots for Jamie Sinclair. Lol!
Really though, there were so many books I enjoyed this year. The Darkest Hour, Maya Banks; Talk of The Town, Karen Hawkins; The Dangerous Viscount, Miranda Neville; Love In The Afternoon, Lisa Kleypas...and so many more!

Karen Ranney, A Highland Duchess

Historical romance: His At Night by Sherry Thomas
Contemporary romance: What I Did For Love by SEP
Young Adult: The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong
Gothic Romance: Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie

Sherry Thomas-HIS AT NIGHT

Kresley Cole-DEMON FROM THE DARK
Gena Showalter-THE DARKEST LIE
My favorite "new to me" book was:
Alex Flinn-BEASTLY (fabulous young adult).

Janga hooked me on Anne Gracie too. It's something she's very good at! :)

Lessons in French by Laura Kinsale.
Nine rules to break when romancing a rake by Sarah Maclean.
Flat out sexy by Erin McCarthy.
Tempt me at twilight by Lisa Kleypas.
The Lady Julia Grey series by Deanna Raybourn.–I’m cheating a little and counting this as one book.
Rebel by Zoe Archer. Actually all the books in the Blades of the Rose series but this was my favorite.
Unveiled by Courtney Milan. This doesn’t come out until February but I got to read it through Netgalley. Super-swoonworthy hero and beautiful writing!
Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon. I read books 1-4 in the Outlander series this summer, and this one was my favorite because of the rich description of the colonial America setting.
L.A. Cinderella by Amanda Berry. I really enjoyed this plain-Jane accountant meets Hollywood hottie story. It was one of the few books I managed to finish on my summer vacation.
Shopaholic and baby by Sophie Kinsella. I love this series but hadn’t kept up with it, so I read this for the first time when I was recovering from my post-summer vacation cold. It also led to a re-read of several other of the Shopaholic books.
Thanks, everyone, for sharing your lists. I really do enjoy reading them and comparing notes. FYI: PJ, Gannon, Buffie, and Andrea are sharing their lists today at The Romance Dish.
Hello ladies. I am so terribly late, but Happy New Yeár to You all!
My top 4 from the year 2010 would be:
Married by Morning/Lisa Kleypas
Broken Wing/Judith James(this s from 2008;what a romance this one is!)
Lady Isabella´s Scandalous Marriage/Jennifer Ashley
Nothing But Trouble/Rachel Gibson.
Unfortunately I haven´t read nearly any new writers like Sarah MacLean, Tessa Dare or Courtney Milan.

I nominate Courtney Milan for best new writer 2010!
She's right up there with some of the great new authors of 2008 and 2009 but I thought that on the whole 2010 was not a great year for new authors. However I thought it had spectacular books by lots of established authors .

I read 31 books this year that I truly loved, but if forced to choose a top read, I'd go with Anne Gracie's The Accidental Wedding among romances and Jean Brashear's The Goddess of Fried Okra among "other" books. I not only loved reading both these books, but they've stuck with me. I still find myself thinking about particular scenes.
