Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Oh. Lol. I remembered wrong. Before I start a book I check the reviews and I remembered wrong. I really liked #5 so I am hoping I will like AB through at least a few more books. What book did the decline start for you?

I flinched. Lol.

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments I bought Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Michelle Rowen . *Lethal hangs head in shame*

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments @Regina -LOL. For me it was Micah which I thought was a one off but with Danse Macabre, as soon as I finished it I was so shocked I flipped it over and read it again. Couldn't believe it was so bad. For others it started with Narcissus in Chains which was when the sex aspect changes and becomes unconventional.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments @Lethal -LOL, satan obviously didn't back you then and that's why he's satan, faithful to his nature that guy. Steph was right. Steph wrote: "LOL! Wonder what Lethal's gonna buy next ??? "

Josie | 1967 comments :( Ah this is why I told myself I wouldn't start the series but alas, I did anyway. I'm onto Bloody Bones (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #5) and I've really liked the books and basically read them back-to-back. Oh well I have 5 more to go until I get sad or I'll think positive and love them all the way to what are we on? number 20 or so?

The unconventional sex aspect isn't what bothers me with later books. What bothers me is that LKH is so bad at writing sex scenes. Oh and I would occasionly like a little plot with the sex. Just a smidge, really. Any at all would be nice. LOL, that may be a little harsh. Maybe.

When Guilty Pleasures came on the scene, UF wasn't popular. Heck, was it even a legitimate genre yet? I don't remember having a name for it then. To give LKH her due, she is one of the writers responsible for establishing UF as a major trend. And it is her right to create the world to suit herself. However, I miss the old Anita. Not necessarily the prejudiced, "non-humans are monsters" Anita. But the necromancer, the one who solved mysteries by waking the dead in cemeteries, not in her bed.

Not harsh, completely true. I feel exactly the same.

LOL! Again, ditto. Skin Trade attempted to go back but then then the next turned around and went back to...this is where I have to stop, my language is unrepeatable in polite company.

Kerstin | 862 comments Just finished Dying Bites (The Bloodhound Files, #1) by D.D. Barant and really enjoyed it.
Not sure what I'll read next. Either Lost in a Good Book (Thursday Next, #2) by Jasper Fforde or Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress World, #2) by Jeaniene Frost

Ooh, I don't remember seeing Dying Bites before. Looks good! *darn, that mountain keeps getting higher*

Read Afterlight (The Dark Ink Chronicles, #1) by Elle Jasper and Furies of Calderon (Codex Alera, #1) by Jim Butcher . Both fun, but the latter was better.

Reading As Lie the Dead (Dreg City, #2) by Kelly Meding . It's been awhile since the first one, so for once, I appreciated the recap!

message 412: by CyberAlmu (last edited Feb 12, 2011 03:51PM) (new)

CyberAlmu | 302 comments It's been a while since I wrote. I've been studying for my exams, didn't have too much time to check up on internet but managed to get some reading done though.

I've finished 3 4-stars books: Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid, #4) by Richelle Mead , Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, #1) by Carrie Vaughn and Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost (OMG Bones...)

I'm currently reading Right Hand Magic (Golgotham, #1) by Nancy A. Collins and Stray (Shifters, #1) by Rachel Vincent

message 413: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments I'm still reading Bear Necessities (Halle Shifters, #1) by Dana Marie Bell . It's never taken me so long to get through a Samhain book.

On top of that, I'm reading: The Reader by Bernhard Schlink & Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Michelle Rowen . Okay, I lied. I'm really just reading Nightshade & have only made it to page 12 in The Reader. It icks me out thinking about some dried-up cougar playing hide the sausage with a 15-year-old boy. Mary Kay Letourneau, is that you?

message 414: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments @Regina, I enjoyed those books a lot. Read them pre-GRs, found 1-2 while wandering through a AU bookstore. Then, had to pre-order 3 to find out how it ended. Now, 4 is on it's way. I should probably re-read 3 since I read it a little over year ago. Some YA novels are crap on audio, IMO and some are decent. Never can tell.

@Lethal, I won't say it ....

@Inga, Hope you enjoy Psy-Changeling 2!

@CyberAlmu, Good luck w/your exams! I know you'll be relieved when they're done. LOVE Bones! Looking forward to more of him very soon. :)

message 415: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments BTW - I'm currently reading and enjoying Birthmarked (Birthmarked, #1) by Caragh M. O'Brien , which has a sort of Hunger Games feel to it. Different for sure, no "games", but the whole "privileged live inside, under-privileged live outside" kinda thing. And, have about 2 hrs left on my audiobook Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville, #2) by Carrie Vaughn , which I'm enjoying as well.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments @ Kerstin & Vivian

I loved Dying Bites (The Bloodhound Files, #1) by D.D. Barant & Death Blows (The Bloodhound Files, #2) by D.D. Barant . Very interesting and well written. I haven't found a copy of Killing Rocks (The Bloodhound Files, #3) by D.D. Barant yet, I'm going to have to give in and shop online instead of trying to find it locally.

For those who don't know, Jace is a FBI profiler who is "borrowed" by an alternate universe where humans are the minority, a very small minority of 1%. Since vampires, werewolves and golems are immune to insanity, they have no experience in tracking an insane killer and need Jace's skills. Highly recommended. (And I just love the titles and their multi-layered meanings.)

(grumbles under breath, when will I have time to read all these books)

message 419: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Lol!
Having such a great reading spell at the moment which has made me pretty darn happy (30 books read since the beginning of the year!!) :D

Read Sins of the Heart (Otherkin trilogy, #1) by Eve Silver yesterday which although wasn't rated overly good, I loved. I'm not sure why though. But I was definitely disappointed when I finished it so will have to hunt down the rest of the trilogy.

In the meantime just started Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger . Enjoyable and quite unusual :)

message 420: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments LOL @ Sandra. Ditto!

That's great, Josie! I enjoyed Sins of the Heart too. Haven't read the rest of the trilogy yet though. Did you know there's a novella #1.5 called Sin's Daughter? I got it for free from ... somewhere, Amazon I think. I wouldn't say it's a mandatory read for the series, but it's there if you'd like to learn about Amber & Kai's story.

message 421: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Oooh, free you say? I heard that Kai pops up in later books so it's always nice to know more about a character. Thanks, I'm off to hunt it down :)

ETA: I think it was only for a limited time only :(
Still, I'll read it anyway on the strength of the first book.

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments Ah, sorry you missed it.

message 423: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Finished Undead and Unfinished (Undead, #9) by MaryJanice Davidson . Ugh! Let me think about this for a second. Yep, that's the word for it. I have the perfect place to shelve the book though: the Quit Smoking shelf in the reading resolutions challenge.

Also finished A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess . I've never read A Clockwork Orange before, though I had a basic idea about the subject/plot. I can understand why a lot of people think it's brilliant. I can see why it's considered a classic by some. It just wasn't my cup of tea, having to push myself to finish. I woudn't say I regret reading it, I think we should push ourselves sometimes. And, now I'll have a better understanding of pop culture references to the book. But, I sincerely doubt I'll ever pick it up again.

Currently reading: Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews Six Geese A-Slaying (Meg Langslow, #10) by Donna Andrews & Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King

message 424: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments Daffodil, I've only read 1 Undead, not rushing to read anymore.

And I commend you on your fortitude in reading A Clockwork Orange. I remember going to see that movie when I was just a youngish whippersnapper and can still recall some most disturbing elements to this day.

On a happier note, I just finished Tempting the Beast (Breeds Series) by Lora Leigh and I can tell you it was hawt! The 1st in the breeds series, it did suffer from 1st-in-series book syndrome but obviously as they are well into book #20 something it didn't suffer long. LOL.

message 425: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I finished The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld, #3) by Gena Showalter , which I really enjoyed after an admittedly slow start and The Princess & the Penis by R.J. Silver , which was a very cute and hilarious short story about a princess having trouble with a rather sizable penis in her bed.

message 426: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments Kerstin, loved The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld, #3) by Gena Showalter and I picked up The Princess & the Penis by R.J. Silver the other day as a freebie on smashwords. Everyone keeps saying how funny it is, I'll have to read it. LOL.

message 427: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments You have to Sandra, it is so funny and pretty short so it won't take you very long at all!

message 428: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments Daffodil, I had to laugh b/c that's exactly where #10 for that series sits for me right now ... in Quit Smoking category of the Reading Resolutions challenge. It's a series that I just cannot get myself to stop. I was determined to stop after reading #9, but then she had to go and do that. Now, I have to read 10 to find out WTH?! LOL! Oi!

Glad you liked that one, Sandra. It's been on my TBR for a long time. I should've added it to my "Time to Climb ...", but forgot about it - again.

I finished my re-read of Destined for an Early Grave and even though I still enjoyed it (and maybe should, but won't, lower my rating to 4v5), I was a bit frustrated this go 'round (view spoiler)

I started Green Eyed Demon (Sabina Kane, #3) by Jaye Wells and haven't gotten far at all, but I'm liking it so far.

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Steph wrote: "I finished my re-read of Destined for an Early Grave and even though I still enjoyed it (and maybe should, but won't, lower my rating to 4v5), I was a bit frustrated this go 'round (view spoiler)"

As much as I hate to say it, not loving this series as much on the re-reads either. But Bones is still yummy as ever ;)

message 430: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments Sad, right? I mean, I still love them, but why the change in level of love, ya think? Too much read since then? Writing? Seriously, I was shocked that I was considering reducing my rating (only a little) after re-reading.

message 431: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments I don't know! Maybe too many other great books read since then. I actually stopped re-reading after the second one because I'm afraid of diminishing my love for them. But still looking forward to This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost next week!

message 432: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments I only read the Night Huntress series for the first time last October and I've only re-read #2 so far, but I'm still loving 'em as much as ever.

I've #3 & #4 planned for early March re-reads so I can go directly to This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost as I know it won't arrive till March anyway. So I'm hoping I'll still feel the love.

message 433: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments Funny you say that b/c I was actually thinking (after finishing my re-read) that I was glad I'd only opt'd to re-read the last one, not all of them. :\ But, I'm also anxious for TSotG!

message 434: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments I think there's parts of the books that are definitely worth re-reading, but maybe the overall story isn't necessary to me?

Off to finish my last BINGO read of Round 1 *sniff*

message 435: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments Most definitely agree!

Enjoy! And, I just posted an announcement and sign-up for R2! :D

message 436: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments I think I deliberately started with #2 cause #4 was sad with Rodney and this way I could work up to it. LOL.

message 437: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments LOL! 'Course it doesn't hurt that #2 has the randy chapter 32. ;)

message 438: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments Of course. LOL!!

Though I did pick #2 cause RRRC wanted a 2nd chance love for the challenge and this one had it in spades.

message 439: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments That it does! :D

message 440: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments Currently reading Wild Within (Bonded Fantasy, #1) by Mima and it is more a fantasy style romance (7 books long) series with different H/h each book and heavy world building. I have an advantage in that I've read one other in the series already, so know the world.

Really like this one - different shifters set somewhere else in the universe sort of magical medieval style.

message 441: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32482 comments Sounds interesting.

I've started listening to the audiobook of Curse the Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4) by Karen Chance re-read in prep for Hunt the Moon (Cassandra Palmer, #5) by Karen Chance . The narrator is just okay. I may switch to reading it vs. listening to it.

message 442: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments Isn't Hunt the Moon coming out in June? I would've thought you'd re-read it closer to the date. LOL.

message 443: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Steph I realized that too when I was doing my rereads. I am actually waiting for a library copy of #5. But I also was disappointed with her spin off series.

message 444: by Daffodil (new)

I was so depressed with the ending of #9 that I immediately went to her website to see if she even had a plan for the series. There's an excerpt up for #10 and it seems she will be addressing the issues raised in Undead and Unfinished. If anything, that just makes me more mad; Unfinished's main purpose seems to be to move you from #8 to #10.

message 446: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Finished Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews and loved it.

Currently reading: Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King (disgustingly spooky & eerie) Six Geese A-Slaying (Meg Langslow, #10) by Donna Andrews (hilarious) The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (fascinating so far) and Taken by Lilith Saintcrow (not impressed yet)

message 447: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I gave up on Unholy Ghosts, it wasn't for me.

Yesterday, I read Werelove Dusk Conspiracy (Volume 1) by Lakisha Spletzer which I quite enjoyed. I keep changing my rating though (3 or 4? I want half stars!). It's quite different -futuristic sci-fi but still definitely UF with multiple POVs which works well. I'm certainly reading the sequel coming out in April.

Currently reading Mr. Monster (John Cleaver Series #2) by Dan Wells . I couldn't even breathe at the beginning. Was so scared. Love John's mother though, she's so funny.

message 448: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25793 comments Ames, I understand about Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane I finished it for a challenge, but I know lots who loved it, but it was the drugs that did my head in.
