Hayley | 83 comments I remember reading the jaunt and finding it a fasinating story. Its been awhile since I last read it but I loved the story within a story. Who knows one day jaunting may actually be possbile. I comment more once I've re-read the story.

This story was neat. I like that King went for Sci-Fi. Yet in a scary way. I also thought it was kinda crazy that the boy was even willing to tempt that. I also wonder what do people see... just nothing Forever and that is what drives the mind crazy?

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 665 comments I loved this story! I agree with Angie....it was cool to see King go Sci-fi! I liked the background story....very futuristic and interesting. Plus I loved the horror twist at the end! And what the boy was yelling at the end gave me goosebumps!

Alexis (aesquibel25) Skeleton Crew, is it a collection of short stories?

Yes, I think it has about 22 short stories. Feel free to start threads on a story that maybe I haven't started a thread on from the book.

COOL!

Kandice | 4383 comments This story reminded me of 50's science fiction. I know it was originally published in Playboy, but I can definitely imagine it in Isaac Asimov's magazine.

Tanya (tawnycat) This was kind of freaky, but cool. I don't blame the kid for doing it, boys are curious!

Grant Spendlove | 93 comments Rudy Foggia....R.F.

....could it be?

Christopher Cooper | 104 comments I know this one was supposed to be more of a sci-fi tale, but it freaked me out. I think the germs of something freaky are worse for me than all out horror. With my imagination it just runs wild with a germ of an idea.

Christopher Cooper | 104 comments Kyle ~The Rebel Leader~ wrote: "The Jaunt terrified me. The imagery is so disturbing...only King could write something so scary."

Me too. Me friggin too lol.

Chad Lorion (goodreadscomcmichaellorion) I'm a little late to this party, but thrilled to see people talking about "The Jaunt." I read this back in the early 80s in The Twilight Zone Magazine when I was in junior high. One of the scariest short stories I've ever read. "Longer than you think, Dad! Longer than you think!" That line has stuck with me for three decades, one of the most terrifying lines ever written, considering who utters it.

Tyler | 11 comments I used "The Jaunt" as a catalyst for introducing SK to some of the kids I worked with. Many of them didn't enjoy reading for fun. That was, until I told them, "This story will blow your f***ing mind." After it indeed blew their mind, I gave them a list of various stories to read to see if anything caught their attention. From there, I introduced some of the kids to his novels. Hopefully, it stuck with them. I know it did for me. I love that story.

Michael Davis Tyler, would you mind sharing the list of stories you showed the kids? I wouldn't mind to show it to my son. If it's not too much trouble.

Tyler | 11 comments I don't remember them all, but some were The Mist, The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands, The Breathing Method, Quitters Inc., The Body, ...

Michael Davis Cool, thanks!

Tek | 97 comments I think his short stories are an excellent way to introduce King to kids, or any new reader. As long as they can grasp the idea of completely different stories within one book, and don't try and link them together, theres a lot to be had.

I'd recommend all of Different Seasons, The Last Rung on the Ladder, Boogeyman, the Raft, and The Man in the Black Suit.

Tyler | 11 comments The Last Rung on the Ladder was crazy. Good call.

Tek | 97 comments It is one of my favorites. So emotional, and for a short story thats pretty great.

Jonathan Last rung produces a range of emotions from the reader for a short story it is captivating.

King's short stories are my personal favorites! Skeleton Crew has some of my favorites!

Aside from 'The Juant' there's 'The Raft', 'Beachworld' (another sci-fi horror), 'The Reaper's Image', 'Survivor Type', 'Gramma' (scared the beejesus out of me!), and 'The Reach' which is also a great example of King branching out beyond straight horror.
