This story was so spooky. I really enjoyed this one. I found out that this was made into a movie... it is apart of the movie Creepshow 2. Has anyone seen this movie?

The only thing I didn't like about this story was the whole sex scene. I don't really know if that was necessary, and who would do that? At least I know I wouldn't.

I remember this story and it was one of my favourites from Skeleton crew. I'm not a big fan of open water, lakes or rivers and reading this book didn't stop my fears, it made them even worse. I hate that I don't know what is underneath me and especially if I can't see the bottom. So reading this reminded me why I hate the water - you never know what lurks there.

For whatever reason the way King described the way the bodies were pulled through the gap in the boards has haunted me to this day. The build up in the ring finger... sheesh. I am glad they included that story in Creepshow 2, but there is no way they could recreate it the way SK wrote it. Creepy stuff for sure.

I always remeber the part where he realizes her hair is hanging down into the water while they're having sex. This creeped me out so much and I remember thinking that I need a break after this story because nothing ever ended happily.

Yea how crazy was it he didn't even bother to pull her up when he noticed her hair!

HAHHAH! I know this story drove me NUTS! But I don't know what she was thinking either.. must've been in shock. That is my only guess.

This was really good! I hadn't seen Creepshow 2, so this reading of it was my first time. I really liked it! Pure Stephen King horror through and through! And I'm sorry to say.....but I'm glad that girl got it in the end! I just wish he would have jumped at that time.......it was distracted enough.

I think that sex scene was right up there with the one from The Mist. Was it necessary? I can't say what I would do.......thankfully I haven't been in that situation.

A creepy story for sure, but most of them deserved it. I'd love to see the movie version of this.

I haven't read it in long while, but I disagree about the "sex scene", I thought it quite fitting. There's something exciting about being scared, isn't it?

I definitely see what your saying. Who knows how I would react in that situation. The adrenaline would sure be pumping. lol

I liked the feeling that there was NO way out. No matter what they did they were going to die horribly. That's what I liked about *The Ruins* too.

I loved the Ruins. It totally scared me and creeped me out!

Me, too. I liked the movie, also. It seems like people either love or hate them, but to me the inevitableness of what was happening was creepy.

I haven't seen the movie, The Ruins yet. I loved the book, and I think I've been avoiding the movie because of the negative feedback I've been hearing. Plus they changed so many things in just the little pieces I've seen. That just annoys me so much.

I own the book and really want to read it. I saw the movie because I took my teenage son and some friends. I hadn't realized it even was a book, so now I am waiting a bit so I don't compare the two so harshly, but I thought the movie was pretty good, so the book should be great.

The ending of the movie was annoyingly different and the characters seemed a lot more immature. And like all movies, some (or all) of the emotional depth or story complexity was left out. But the thrill ride was left pretty much intact.
Scott Smith's other book A Simple Plan suffered in transition from book to movie, too. I loved the book, which focused on "When we've already invested a lot in a losing situation, when do we call it quits? Can we call it quits when we've already given so much?"

I hadn't realized A simple Plan and the Ruins were by the same author! Now I really want to read Ruins, because ASP was brilliant.

I haven't seen that movie (ASP) so I may have to look for it.

"A Simple Plan" was a brilliant book and a pretty good movie -- IMO, "The Ruins" was a truly depressing, albeit well-written book, but the movie was one of the worst I've ever seen. There is just simply no justification for totally changing the ending of ANY book, because it completely nullifies what the author was saying with the book in the first place!
