This is where to be to post questions or to help answer questions.

I hope that we can get a wonderful group going here to not only help but to make the blogging experience a smooth and fun one for new beginners.

I also hope that for the veterans you might be of great value to everyone as well.

Anna Walls (annalwalls) Not that I'm any kind of an expert on blogging but I'll share what I think.

message 3: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (abigailann) | 10 comments I think those two are the biggest ones. I use blogger, which I like, but I've never really checked out WordPress

message 4: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) I use Blogger too. I tried Wordpress because it was highly recommended but at the time I found it unwieldy, just my opinion maybe. Blogger is easy and clear, and they've made several improvements since I started.

Anna Walls (annalwalls) If you ever get to the point where you want or need a website, I recommend Weebly.com. They too are easy and good looking, and best of all free. Check mine out if you want -

Julie (jflamingo) | 23 comments Myself, I've stuck it out with Blogger. They continue to make improvements and I've been doing alright there. I like that they seem simple, at least with my limited knowledge, to use. If you need help with Blogger, I can usually help you out. :)

Alison (AlisonCanRead) (alisoncanread) | 2 comments I would recommend Blogger. For other types of blogs, Wordpress is more widely used. I think it's particularly good if you want to do a lot of photos. But Blogger is the most popular in the book blogging community.

For better or worse, the number of followers you have is a main measure of "success" as a blogger. It's easy to use Google Friend Connect through Blogger. I think it's harder with Wordpress.

Linda Cat (catbooks4hearts) | 13 comments I use blogger. When I started blogging (not even book blogging) I tried wordpress but I found Blogger a lot easier so I stuck with that.

message 9: by Karen (new)

Karen | 44 comments I think blogger is easier to customize. Plus with the google friend connect, it is easier for people to follow you.

I like Aimee's answer better which I hadn't thought of before so I may start doing it that way.
I also use Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ little books & Amazon's pics for my reviews. Also, Google images has lots of great covers for the books but once in a while they may disappear because of an infringement then I replace it with another.
Happy blogging, Heather & welcome here!

I get /most/ of my pictures for covers, as well as a lot of my summaries from the author's website. Usually somewhere on the authors website, or on the publisher's website for the book there is a media page, which usually has contact information for the publisher, the author, and their agent, but it also has high resolution cover images to put in your blog posts as well a lot, and sometimes the summaries. From my experience, anyway.

Miriam (miriamfromwheelshaveeyes) | 4 comments Maybe this has been asked and if so I apologize as I have not read all the comments here, but anyway. What do you do with your copies of books that you review? Not the ARC's but the ones that are sent to you that are actual published copies. I was selling some of mine, but I started having some feelings of guilt wondering if this is taking away from the author in any way. What are your thoughts on this and what do you do with all the books? I don't possibly have room to keep everyone of them.

I have kept mine on my bookshelf. I have one I plan to get rid of. I don't think you should feel bad about it. I don't think they expect you to hold onto them forever. You could also do a giveaway with the ones you are planning to get rid of if you don't want to sell it.

Jencey/ (jencey) I have a question. When Blogger went down a month and a half ago I have had problems with my blog. I was able to rectify a couple of them. I am still having a problem with not being able to see my followers? Has anyone else had this problem? My Amazon widget connection is not working either. When I had problems with this last time it became a finger pointing match between Blogger and Amazon. Any suggestions?

message 16: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cgraceh) | 64 comments I have my blog currently on the hosting service Blogger. I want to transfer my blog to my own web site and address. I am wondering if anyone has ever done this and knows the best, easiest and most cost-effective way of doing this? Are there any hosting sites anyone suggests over others (ie. GoDaddy.com; JustHost, etc.)

message 17: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) My mom is going through her godaddy.com for her website.

Great! I'm also wondering what the best way to transfer to my new address so that follwers (or anyone) will automatically go to my new site if they access the old one?

message 19: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) You know who might be able to help you with that is Pia Bernardino. She is on my friends list.

Do you want to switch hosts or do you just want your own domain (web address)? Because you can purchase it through Blogger for $10 a year if it is available and it includes email addresses with your domain. That's what I did (although I actually didn't switch the email addresses.) That way if you like blogger you can still use it to edit/post/keep your followers, everything you do now. Anyway, don't know if that helps-- you probably knew that already, and if you don't like blogger (wasn't sure if that's what you meant) then ignore me haha :)

I didn't know that...that's great! I guess i"m not sure if I wnat to switch out of blogger entirely because I agree, they have a really good set up that makes evrything so simple to create each web page. Basically, I was thinking of changing to a private domain so that I wasn't limited to the confines of Blogger's rules; although I've found Blogger to be very lenient on most aspects, like allowing you to place ads on their page and whatnot...I probably will stick with blogger. That must be how people have blogger blogs with the 'blogspot' in their URL - I always wondered about that:)

Thanks for the advice!!

Colleen (herebebookwyrms) | 11 comments I'm fairly new to blogging, but as to the question about where people get their book covers, etc. - I scan my books and use those cover images for my posts.

Slightly off topic, but I'm so glad I stumbled across this group! I wasn't sure how to try and get more readers to my blog, and this is such a great resource. :)

message 23: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) I just read today in a daily writing post I get that bloggers should use style guides to back up and support their writing. I was wondering if anyone has used a style guide such as APA or MLA? Or what would you suggest I use for mine which is mostly book reviews and interviews?

Francesca Moore | 1 comments Hi all,

I was just wondering what people's tips were for promoting your writing blogs. A lot of the advice online is geared towards people posting different content on their blog.

My blog is posting chapters of my novel and so therefore the whole 'keywords in your titles' thing won't really work for me.

It's a young adult fantasy fiction. Here is my blog:

Melissa Hayden (melhay) | 2 comments Hello all! I've been away from blogging and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for a while, long while. But I'm trying to get back to reading and posting.

I was wondering if there's a way to have Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ post directly to my Facebook feed when I post a review or finish a book. It use to do that but I'm not able to figure it out now. (It's been a while! lol.)

Also, does the Post to Blog really post to our blogs? I tried it and I don't think it posts to my Blog on Google.

Thank you for your help!
