The characters in Forced Mate are:

Djinni-vera
(typical Historical-type heroine, eighteen, virgin, nervous of sex, improbable martial arts and psychic skills)

Tarrant-Arragon
(typical male chauvinist pig, morally questionable, sexually jaded, alpha male hero, bad reputation, secret heart of gold)

Grievous
(human chorus, commentator, comic, sidekick)

Commander Jason/J-J/Prince Djetthro-Jason
(typical "other man", not terribly bad, just in the way)

Someone else?

Rosemarie (paisleyrosewitch) | 4 comments Now Rowena, lol You know my answers to that one! Yes, I still hold the odd view and for that reason, Tarrant-Arragon is my favourite there and second is Grievous. Between the two of them, they set the tone for the darkness and the comedic values in the story.

Tarrant is the *BAD BOY* and although you do make him to be rather evil, it is not something he is truly comfortable with being. The character speaks to me as one who does certain things in public to uphold a reputation. By his treatment of Djinni alone you know he is not that "Evil Personified" of which Helispeta warned her. Coniving and sneaky, oh yes, definitely, but he does have his grand moments.

As for Grievous, he is a mischievous and somewhat odd human who does take a strange outlook on things. He is quite able to suspend his beliefs when it comes to "ALIENS" and his opinions are rather unconventional. Not only does he amuse Tarrant Arragon, but he really does have an attachment to him and Djinni. He is quite often the comic relief, and acts much as a court jester in difusing Tarrant-Arragon's anger toward others.

It is an odd world you have created, and one that it totally wonderful. I can't wait to see what more you come up with in the future. The latest, Knight's Fork is again SUPERB...

Thank You, Rowena.
Hugs,
Rose!~

Sandi (sandikal) Grevious was by far the best character in Forced Mate.

Rose,

Thank you. The court jester is exactly how I see Grievous!

Sandi,

You are far from alone. Grievous has quite a circle of secret admirers. I know you have read Insufficient Mating Material. Do you think he'll be happy with Freya?

Sandi (sandikal) Does he have to have a partner? I think he works because he ISN'T involved in all the sexual intrigues. He's an objective by-stander.

Sandi,

Thank you for adding to the discussion. I agree that Grievous isn't on anyone's radar as a future member of the royal family, but don't forget the incident in Forced Mate when he shut down a space ship when he tried to play a pornographic movie while entertaining a young lady.
:-)
