Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments I thought it would be amusing to discuss Eve and Roarke's cat. She "adopts" him in the first book, Naked in Death. For some reason, he loves sitting on Eve's butt.

Stacey | 45 comments I am not a pet person but if I had any pet it would be Galahad. I love when he "watches over Eve"... It also feels like he is equally Eve and Roarke's cat.

message 4: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments I think it's a great name for a cat. If I ever have another one, that's the name I'm going to use.

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments yea, i do like the name

I've always thought of him as her sentry.

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments ***SPOILER ALERT***

Ahhh Galahad...the cat that tripped Summerset and delayed his vacation. Eve was pretty sure he did it on purpose....ha ha

Deborah | 23 comments I love when he always seem to try and get them each to feed him.

I always find it funny when Roarke chastises the cat as if he's a real person, saying "we've discussed this before."

Me too, I think it is hilarious and the cat seems to understand it.

He usually succeeds! At least when he goes begging to Eve...

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Deborah wrote: "I love when he always seem to try and get them each to feed him."

Yes, and when they both give him the evil eye when he comes begging for food. Does anyone remember if he succeeding in copping some food when no one gave him permission or wasn't looking? (pun intended)

Oh, he cops Roarke's bacon all the time.

message 14: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) I love how he always gives them the 'silent' treatment when they've come back from a trip or vacation. They then have to make up by feeding him all sorts of goodies.

message 15: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Goldin (stephengoldin) | 43 comments Well, of course. He's a cat, isn't he?

message 16: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Stephen wrote: "Well, of course. He's a cat, isn't he?"

Truer words, Stephen. My cats do the same things. They also sometimes turn their noses up at their food, even though you know they're hungry. They just like to make a statement. I think Galahad did that probably in the same part of the book.

He also begs for food even though he has already eaten, typical.

message 17: by Sara (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Yep. Galahad is DEFINITELY a cat. Nora must have one herself...

message 18: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments While listening to Creation, I have just come across a scene where Eve is suggesting to the sleeping cat about how fat he is and she is going to ask Roarke to put in a kitty treadmill, too funny, LOL.

message 19: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 14976 comments Mod
He must be huge by now.

message 20: by Sara (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments I know... They feed him table scraps all the time! Our cats are also of the fairly sedentary indoor variety, and we had to put them on an overweight management food to get their weights down. Galahad must be a BEAST!

message 21: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael I've known cats like Galahad and he is one of the reasons one of my best friends is also addicted to the In Death series.

I enjoy Galahad, but am not really much of a cat person. Personally, I think they need an ongoing character to add a DOG!

message 22: by Sara (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Sharon, Sharon, Sharon...

Try this: Close your eyes (figuratively, as you'd have a hard time reading the rest of this with your eyes closed) and imagine Roarke, getting ready in the morning... He puts on an immaculate and very expensive suit... And then a laborador jumps up on him and COVERS his beautiful clothes in dog hair.

I love cats AND dogs (we have 2 of each!), but I just can't see it...

message 23: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments LOL Sara, I totally agree. We have a huge male cat, and so I can relate. Ours is like the size of a lemur, he's so big. My husband spoils him rotten.

message 24: by Sharon (last edited May 15, 2011 01:59PM) (new)

Sharon Michael I agree with you that it wouldn't work for Roarke. It might work with one of the sharp-edged kids/teenagers or maybe someone like one of Peabody's family ... someone that gets introduced in one of the books and then is occasionally involved in ongoing books ... and has the dog.

And I'm not thinking of the 'love everybody' type dogs like Labs or Goldens, I think it would work better with a Doberman, Rottweiler, Mastiff, Bull Terrier person ... something with a little 'edge'.

message 25: by Sara (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Oooh... Breed stereotypes! We have 2 bull terriers. They're big lap dogs that act like 3-year-olds, and they shed EVERYWHERE!

message 26: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael I know ... stereotypes. But I'm entitled ... I had Dobermans for several years and then raised/trained/showed Rottweilers for over 20 years. Besides that, had a Miniature Bull Terrier that I loved ... so am fixated on the 'Bully' types as well. I dealt with the stereotyping for most of the years I had the Rotts ... and the Rotts are double coated, so I suspect they can outshed even your Bull Terriers!

message 27: by Sara (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments :) How are the minis? Do they have tiny-dog issues?

What if Peabody and McNab got a dog?

message 28: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael The Minis tend to think they are 10-feet tall and bulletproof. Mine absolutely ran the entire kennel of Rottweilers.

And yes ... Peabody would be great with a dog, with her background, sensible ... and McNab would do absolutely idiot things with it.

message 29: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I like the idea of Peabody and McNab getting a dog. A big goofy looking dog that they have to work with and with each consecutive book the "beast" minds a little better, that is until he decided to do his own thing.

message 30: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Great idea, In.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I love how both Dallas and Roarke took him in. To me, he was a lost little guy. His owner had been murdered and here was Dallas, toughie that she is, bringing him home with her. Maybe a kinship? Maybe kismet.
"Tell him I took the cat."

I love it and I'm very glad he's there.

That's right:) He's her night sentry.

message 36: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments He is such a sweetie. He seems like a combination of my two dogs and two cats.

message 37: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct | 153 comments I do like the idea of Peabody and McNab getting a dog but I think it would be better if it was Mavis and Leonardo for Bella of course.

message 38: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I looooove Galahad. Eve's knight wrapped up in a lot of fur. I love when (view spoiler). So sweet of him to think that she needed something familiar from home. That scene made me teared up too.

message 39: by Sheri (new)

Sheri Morell (smorell22) | 2165 comments that is one of my favorites...that he would know that she needed the cat...I love Galahad

message 40: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11163 comments Mod
Mine too, Quynh. But then that's our Roarke.

And I think the term Sentry is perfect for Galahad...Eve's guard.

message 41: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I love it too after Eve have an exhausting day, fall flat on her face on bed and Galahad would keep watch near her, or on top of her until Roarke comes home.

message 42: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct | 153 comments What would really be awesome about the dog is if Galahad scared the crap out of it and ruled the roost so to speak.

message 43: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11163 comments Mod
LOL..and I'm betting he would rule the roost. Galahad did truly act as a sentry keeping watch over Eve per Quynh's example...waiting for Roarke to come home.

message 44: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11163 comments Mod
In Immortal, Roarke finds Galahad decorated with beads and red bows (by one of the house guests)! He tells Eve it was humiliating for them both! I can just picture this cat crawling out from under the bed with all that stuck in his fur! lol

message 45: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Eve should get Trina to do a temporary tattoo of Galahad and tell Roarke it's real to see his reactions.

message 46: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11163 comments Mod
ROFLMBO!! Oh yes! And maybe do some wash out dye in Eve's hair and put in the beads and red bows! LOL...

message 47: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Well, the beads and bows in Eve's hair might be overkill (even for Eve!) so he might not fall for it.

message 48: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11163 comments Mod
Yes...you're right...I can just picture her though! The tat is a good idea...I can just see Roarke's face! Gosh, I love that man! Has there ever been a better male character?!

message 49: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Don't think so. I've read lots of books with lots of great heroes but Roarke takes it all.

message 50: by Sheri (new)

Sheri Morell (smorell22) | 2165 comments i have never read another book with a character that even comes close to Roarke....you just gotta love him :) he is the first character that i have ever truly fell in love with lol
