Valerie | 2 comments Same here. I usually read in bed but I also like reading in the garden, sitting on the grass. And if it would be somewhere public I like reading in a plaza or park.

Joei Hossack | 50 comments I am a middle of the night reader. I usually wake up around 2:00 A.M. and if I can't go back to sleep I pick up my book (right now it's Mozart's Sister by Nancy Moser and wonderful) for an hour or two. It's quiet. I'm cozy and if the book is good (or better - great) I am as happy as a bug in a rug. Joei

Jessica | 7 comments I love to read on the couch and if it's nice out I like to set up a lawn chair and read outside.

message 54: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (novinamichelle) | 3 comments I usually do most of my reading in bed. When I have time on a Saturday/Sunday I'll do quite a bit of reading on the couch. I'm saving for a chaise. It will go next to the window in my library. Can't wait!

message 55: by Mary (new)

Mary My favourite place to read is when on holiday, sitting in a rubber ring in the pool on a hot day. The only trouble is though i'm really clumsy so i almost always drop it in the pool which is one of the reasons im holding back on buying a kindle!
Other than that i'd read anywhere and everywhere!

cazdoll | 23 comments I love to read in bed with a nice cup of hot chocolate :)

I ALWAYS have at least one book with me and usually my ereader too. Today I'm carting 3 books and my ereader in my purse, currently reading one and two I picked up at the library today.

message 58: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (sewtechnicolor) | 55 comments I always carry a book with me, too. And if I'm close to finishing the book, I bring another. :)

Extra books saved the day for me today -- rainy day plus a long unexpected wait = boredom . . . usually! But not today -- Mom had books for everyone in her bag, LOL.

R.L. Mathewson (rlmathewson) | 8 comments Pretty much anywhere, but I really enjoy sitting outside in a comfortable chair and an ice cold Coke during the summer.

message 62: by Michele (new)

Michele | 70 comments I also read just about anywhere I can but do read a lot in bed just because it is comfy and warm. However, I do enjoy reading in my car in the afternoon, like lunch break. There's something very relaxing about that, especially if it is nice weather. Maybe it is just the stolen time.

There is a book out there about getting kids to read--middle schoolers I think--called Naked Reading: Uncovering What Tweens Need to Become Lifelong Readers in which the author discussed how some child in her family liked to read naked after the shower. Doesn't quite do it for me. :)

That seems kinda creepy...but to each his/her own.

Philip Athans (philathans) | 36 comments Having to read all day in an open cubicle taught me to be able to read anywhere, but -- is this too gross? -- I have to say, I treasure my .. ahem ... bathroom breaks ... It's about the only time I'm actually alone in a quiet place!

message 65: by Clara (new)

Clara | 27 comments My favorite place to read is in a crowded subway or at the park. If at home, I am in bed reading then fall asleep after a half hour.

message 66: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 15 comments i have a reading corner in my room it has books on the window sill , a window, pillows, and a lamp, and eventually im puttin a chair in it but the down side is its next to my closet so i cant put anything there but thats ok. I love to read there but sometimes its so cold in the winter i sit with a blanket wrapped around me

When I was a kid I would go and sit on the counter in the upstairs bathroom, leaning against the wall and putting my feet across the sink, and read there because it was the only room in the house that the rest of the family wouldn't just open the door and bother me. :-)

message 68: by Pete (new)

Pete | 42 comments I like to be secluded when I read. I have my Sanctum sanctorum in my basement with an overstuffed chair, good reading lamp, and my bookcases. If I were to read in my living room, I would either be distracted by everything happening outside, or self-conscious that people would be watching me through my windows. OK, I know it's weird, but that's me.

I think my ideal vacation, however, would be sitting on a quiet beach, under a palm tree, with a stack of books.

message 69: by McKenzie (new)

McKenzie | 45 comments I am glad that I love to read so much whenever I am feeling sick with stomach issues. Reading on the toilet really passes the time. Yes, it's disgusting, but I am sure most of you do it. There is a reason some people call it the reading room. :)

message 70: by Destiny (new)

Destiny (ladestinytwilliams) | 39 comments This may be a tad weird. But my favorite place to read is in the tub. Why? I don't know I've done it for years and I got into trouble because I fell asleep in the tub and dropped a library book in the water. I ended up paying for the book, but I didn't tell my school librarian that I did that. I just told her I lost it.

Second place would be in bed. Especially after I've taken my medicine and shut off the computer and the TV volume is low.

Third would be on the bus. It takes about thirty minutes for us to get to where we are going. So I pull a book out of my purse and I can easily get through fifty or so pages.

I read in the tub all the time too! Something about the warm water, a little music and a good book is sooooo relaxing!

I agree! I think I rarely take a bath without bringing a book along for company, LOL.

Lisa Consiglio-Wolff (jrzgirl_1967) | 14 comments This is a great question! I can read anywhere and everywhere. I like to read in my room in bed or in my living room in my very comfortable big and cozy gingham light green chair! Now that the weather is warmer I also love to read in my screened in porch balcony! I have a book with me always and if I am not the driver I can read in the car as well! I also love to read outdoors at the beach!

message 75: by Liz (new)

Liz (izzyness89) | 7 comments I normally like to read in my room as it is quiet (if my brother is not talking loudly on his Xbox!) and comfortable. If the weather is nice and warm I'll take a blanket outside and read in the back garden.

Lindsay (Turning the Pages) | 7 comments I love to read in the bath... or in bed... or on the deck... or ... or... or... come to think of it, I read anywhere I can!! I have a three-year old and it can be tricky getting in any quality reading during the daylight hours so I am quickly learning to block out the noise and just sit and read!!

Lisa Consiglio-Wolff (jrzgirl_1967) | 14 comments Ironically, I could not when I was younger. When I got older and we were driving somewhere I picked up a magazine to read and noticed I could get through it from that time on I started reading my novels in the car! Totally helps to past the 13 hour car trip home to NJ!

That's great. I recently took a little 3 hour road trip and couldn't help thinking "I'm missing so much good reading time" but I've found a fix for that.... audio books :)

message 80: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Consiglio-Wolff (jrzgirl_1967) | 14 comments You know...I have only ever listened to one audio book in my life and that was Patrick Stewart reading A Christmas Carol. I still have it on CD but I don't recall if I listened to the whole thing!

message 81: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments I've just started listening to them to help pass the time when I'm doing boring things at work. It takes some getting used to and the key is a good narrator. I've actually stopped listening to at least one book because I found the narrator so horrible.

message 82: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Consiglio-Wolff (jrzgirl_1967) | 14 comments I have heard the key is the narrator. That is totally a fabulous way to pass the day especially with boring work things. I am so thankful they let me have a radio I would be lost without the background music.
Have you ever listened to Georgette Heyer on audio I heard they get some great British actors to narrate those.

message 83: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments I've never heard of Georgette Heyer. Right now I'm listening to Devil of the Highlands by Lynsay Sands. The narrator is Scottish I think and even though she sounds bored sometimes she is doing a great job with the characters voices. I'll have to look and see if my library has anything by Georgette.

message 84: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Consiglio-Wolff (jrzgirl_1967) | 14 comments I have not read anything by her but people on the Republic of Pemberley site talk about her novels all the time. They take place mostly during the Regency Period. They say the audio books are decent. I think British actor Richard Armitage (North and South, Robin Hood, MI-5) has narrated one or two and his voice is incredible!

I always say I am going to start reading some of her works because I am sure I will like them. Two summers ago I discovered Catherine Cookson at my library and was obsessed with her work!

message 85: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments This is my first one by her though I have a few of her books on my library wish list because I've heard nothing but good things. I'm really enjoying it. Has a lot more humor than I expected but that's a good thing.

message 89: by Beth (new)

Beth (vanburren) | 69 comments I read anywhere and everywhere, but my favorite places to read are on my couch in front of the big picture window, and then I always, always, always have to read in bed until I fall asleep. If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep within a few minutes, I grab my book and read some more. I keep a booklight and a book on the pillow next to me in bed instead of on the nightstand so I can get to them easier! LOL

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) My favourite place to read is in a moving vehicle. There's something hypnotic about the movement that really lets me zone out and immerse myself in the book's world. I also really like to read sitting out back in my yard, on a blanket under a tree.

Karen M | 418 comments During the colder months I read in bed in the morning but right now I'm reading on my balcony, as soon as I can drag myself out of bed and throw some clothes on. Cup of coffee and a good book, best way to fully wake up.

Lawrence | 108 comments My favorite places to read are on the couch, in my car with an audio book, in the bathroom, and in bed. I also like listening to audio books at the dining table while doing some adult coloring.

message 96: by Ilean (new)

Ilean (ileanfulton) | 242 comments My favorite place to read is in my chair next to the window (living room) by my lamp across from the tv at home. Next favorite is any place that I have to sit and wait for an appointment, hoping I don't get called early, or waiting for my mother in law at her appointments (those usually run long, lol.).

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I love a hot bubble bath with my little bath pillow.

Also in bed if the mood is right with my TV on the wall playing rainymood video for background - otherwise it's the same youtube ambience vids on the TV in the living room with my couch, coffee table and little fake fireplace - cozy

message 98: by Jackson (new)

Jackson Daytime on the balcony overlooking the ocean. At night, in bed by lamplight.

I never really have occasion to read in public, except at the beach sometimes. I always feel weirdly... exposed. I guess reading is a very private activity when you think about it. Also I don't understand the coffee shop thing, I can't concentrate with any noise. Wish I could as I could read more often...

message 99: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 418 comments I live on the 4th floor and when I go to pickup my mail, outside the front door, I read while I wait for the elevator and on my trip down and up again. Makes the trip more interesting.

Same for me: I usually read in my bed, and on the sofa of the living room. On the beach when I'm on holidays but I cannot concentrate properly if I am in a public place like a café. I'd love to, though, so I could go ahead with more reading time.
