J.B. Richards (amazoncomauthorjb_richards) | 2 comments Miriamne the Magdala-The First Chapter in the Yeshua and Miri Novel SeriesThank you so much for accepting me into your group! I am JB Richards and I recently published my first novel! "Miriamne the Magdala-The First Chapter in the Yeshua and Miri Novel Series", an intimate but respectful look into the deeply personal, oftentimes tumultuous, relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, takes place during the first part of the so-called “missing years and follows the young couple from their teenage years into adulthood.

Perhaps no other historical relationship has been more contested than that of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and just as many tomes have been written on this particular subject. Among the more notable scholars and books that I have found integral to my research are James Tabor's "The Jesus Dynasty" and "The Jesus Discovery", Margaret Starbird's "The Woman with the Alabaster Jar", and Cynthia Bourgeault's "The Meaning of Mary Magdalene". These three books, along with Anne Rice's "Christ the Lord" series, of which the first, "Out of Egypt", has now become a major motion picture, "The Young Messiah", have prompted me to write the story of Jesus and Mary Magdalene from a personal point of view - one in which the protagonist tells his or her own story. The result is a fascinating and compelling look into the lives of two young teens growing up and falling in love in first century Galilee, a land living under a strict religious tradition and forced Roman occupation.

Again, thank you for accepting me as a member of your group. I hope I haven’t overstepped my bounds with such an eager personal introduction and that you'll take the opportunity to find out more about "Miriamne the Magdala" at my website:
Most Gratefully,
JB Richards

Hi, Jeannie!

My latest release is What She Knew, which is set in 2008-9 during the financial crisis. The Foreign Language of Friends is also contemporary. The next novel I'm working on will be in late 19th-century Scotland. Congratulations on your book...writing a series is such a great idea.

D.J. Doyle (djdoyle) | 1 comments Hey, I'm Denise, aka DJ.

I have self-published my debut horror novel The Celtic Curse: Banshee. I have always been a fan of horror, S.King being my favourite and grew up reading tons of his books. I have many stories in my head...and one day I decided to start writing one down.

I am currently writing my second, which is a little darker than my first. I have another 6 or 7 in my head...so enough to keep me going for a few years. I only get to write once a week as I have a busy role in a large global company which takes up a lot of my time. I hope that one day I can write full-time.

I was accepted at Hogwarts, but I couldn't find Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.

I wasn't able to force my way into the Jedi Academy.

So I stayed at home and started writing books.

Zoe Banks (zoebanks) | 2 comments Hi! I am an avid smut, paranormal romance, romance, erotica and bdsm reader.

I also am a self-published author that writes paranormal romance and erotica. I have one book out called Firefly (De Novo Chronicles, #1) by Zoe L Banks Firefly: Book One of the De Novo Chronicles and the next in the series Atomizer: Book Two of the De Novo Chronicles coming soon. You can checkout the first chapter of Firefly and read some NSFW short stories on my blog at:

I love cross promoting other authors and I read about 3 books a week so I look forward to finding out about what others are reading and writing!

Note: I have a heavy technical job (programmer/data geek) during the day so I pretty much only read smut/paranormal romance/bdsm/etc books on my own time so those will be the ones that I would love to hear about!

Thanks and I look forward to being part of the community!

Elke Silvarain (elkesilvarain) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Elke Silvarain and I'm the author of "The Tenants of Earth", a YA urban fantasy/paranormal series about a girl who has lost everyone and moves to a small town in British Columbia to live with her estranged aunt. She soon discovers disturbing abilities and a hidden heritage that she can only embrace if she lets go of the tight control she has over her destructive mind. But she has the help of an elk who won't leave her side after she saves his life. She just needs to find out if there's more to this elk than meets the eye.

The first book in the series, "Hidden Dawn", is available now: /book/show/3...

I love writing and was inspired by a dream I had and a keen interest in First Nation folklore. I am an unashamed introvert and writing helps me survive the world which I can find very overwhelming at times. I love to connect with other indie authors. I used to work in publishing and now freelance editorial services but I self-publish by choice. Read into that what you will!

Chris Wright (author_chris_g_wright) | 7 comments Hi, my name is Chris G. Wright, I'm new to this whole indie author thing, as my 1st sci-fi novel was published in November. I'm happy to be on board a ŷ group like this. It's always great to meet new people, particularly authors on their journey of writing.

My own journey consists of a book/daytime job/book/book/book/life balance--if you know what I mean. It was a journey to be expected, as it's not easy when you're writing your book, building your own website and optimizing it, reaching out to people, trying to devote yourself to a 9-5 job, write a bit more, read a bit more, edit a lot, AND FIND TIME FOR YOUR PARTNER. Yeah, the last is the most demanding, and I think many of you will agree. For those of you who are on a similar journey, you deserve a medal.

Eager to know what you think.

Hi Melissa,

It's hard to find a balance. I'm a new author who LOVES writing, but the daytime job pays the bills. GRRRRRR. It's so frustrating not doing what you KNOW you should be doing more of. Don't get me wrong, my daytime job is great, but even when I'm sitting at the desk all I can think about is the book + the dozen of tasks I've set out for myself (social media, networking, reviews etc).

I'm also suffering from writer's block for that exact same reason. And that's scary, since I've planned my next novel for a late summer release.

P.S. Marketing is my daytime job, specifically SEO (search engine optimisation). If you need any tips, I'll be glad to help.

Chris

Melissa E. (melissaebeckwithfantasyauthor) | 11 comments You sure have a busy life!! :)

Congratulations on your new book coming out this summer. :)

I know nothing about SEO. I had Courtney Cannon at Fiction-Atlas build my website for me (). I barely know enough to make blog posts there....lol Courtney said my site came with some "plug ins" for SEO but I have no idea how that works. It's a Wordpress site hosted by BlueHost. Do I have to worry about SEO or does my site do that automatically?

LOL you can tell I have no idea what I'm talking about. :)

Chris Wright (author_chris_g_wright) | 7 comments My first book came out in November, so I had to think what SEO methods I had to apply on the website prior to launch, and to the Amazon book page shortly after. Amazon is basically a search engine, like google, bing, yahoo etc. It all comes down to keywords--more or less--so you need to often do your research on trends/keywords and see which ones work the best for you. Relevancy is key, though links from your website to other website with high authority play an important role, too. I'll have a look at your website and message you any tips that come to mind.

message 1437: by Melissa (new)

Melissa E. (melissaebeckwithfantasyauthor) | 11 comments Thanks, Chris!

I have no idea about any of that stuff. lol I did take the Nick Stevenson First 10K reader course and it talked about putting keywords in your book description, which I painstakingly did (even did that author Q & A thing...lol). Other than that, I don't know what I'm doing. :)

Sorry, I forgot to comment on the plug ins. I also have plug ins on my wordpress site, though I've been so busy opening accounts here and there, as well as writing the book, that I haven't really given my site that much needed attention--which is bad practice. Your website is your temple. Plug ins will straighten out the knots and make life a little easier, though too many unnecessary plug ins and it will slow down your website.

Your site SEO usually needs to be adjusted from the very beginning and made relevant to your brand/books/services etc. After that, all you need to look out for is your website's blog. SEO doesn't require high maintenance, but you need to consult with your Google Analytics account ( I assume you have one) and see what your traffic is like. A blog will attract more visitors, so try and tend it like the constant gardener.

I've had a look at your website, but haven't done an audit on it yet. Once I do, should I comment here (so that other people can use my response as advice) or would you like me to message you personally?

Chris

message 1441: by Chris (new)

Chris Wright (author_chris_g_wright) | 7 comments You need a Google mail account, if you haven't got one, and you then need to go to Google Analytics and set up your account. It's very easy, honestly. If you find yourself struggling, YouTube has a lot of How-To's, but you might not need to as it really is easy to do. You will have to add your website's URL in Google Analytics, but also have a plug in on wordpress that adds the Universal Tracking Code to each page of your website. The tracking code will report to analytics whenever someone visits your site and how they behave on it.

I hope this helps.

Chris

E. Bast | 2 comments Greetings. I am a new indie memoir author, excited to connect with other writers for mutual support.

My book, "Heart Medicine: A True Love Story," details a quest for healing after my husband's heroin relapse. We navigated the treacherous labyrinth of his addiction and ultimately pursued treatment with an an obscure indigenous African sacred plant medicine, iboga, used since ancient times for shamanic initiation and spiritual healing, and proven to have powerful addiction breaking effects in recent times. It is raw and honest with some intimate surprises.

I wrote the book because so few people have ever heard of this powerful treatment option, and I was moved to share what I know through our story.

Warm Regards, Elizabeth Bast

James Tugend (jamestugend) | 12 comments I am James Tugend '59. After a lifetime, or most of one, working in co-producing, occasionally directing film, television, writing non-fiction magazine articles, online political satire, computer program interfaces and teaching writing, I just wrote my first book published to the public at 79. Self publishing is a different world and I wish I had known more before I published. Probably would have taken more expensive route as it seems the most practical way to have something widely viewed and in book stores, because so many people are self-publishing today. I don't think my free time allows me the travel necessary, such as book fairs, readings, schmoozing and other marketing.
