Still reading lots of Raeanne Thaynes. They are not as good as Dancing in the Moonlight...but still nice.

I am still working on East of Eden by Steinbeck. It is a long book, but it is pretty good.

Mrs.ColinBridgerton | 62 comments Finished Maybe This Time by Jennifer Cruise. Total waste of time. JC is hit or miss for me, but I had been on a good streak with her for a bit. Sadly, this one was a waste.
Now onto Redneck Cinderella by Luanne McLane, corny, but cutesy so far.

I like her Night Huntress series, it's fun :P

I'm in a historical streak, so to say... Reading medieval romances now :D I started Saving Grace by Julie Garwood

Theresa Romain | 420 comments Lots of goodies out today! I got hold of an early copy of Mia Marlowe's Touch of a Thief and absolutely loved it. Kind of a hot historical caper with a light paranormal element. Mia used to write as Emily Bryan and I really liked all those novels too.

Sarah MacLean's Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart and Kieran Kramer's Cloudy With A Chance Of Marriage are also out today. Woot! I wish I could just hole up and read for the next few days.

I liked Maybe This Time. I love JC, but sometimes her books are a miss for me too. Her characters are so strong, and well characterized, that they can be too much of a "don't go there" for me. What didn't you like about Maybe This Time?

I'm glad. I have another book of hers for when I finish this one. I think it's out of order though...I borrowed from the library.

Irisheyes | 896 comments Just finished DANGEROUS IN DIAMONDS by Madeline Hunter and loved it! Casteford is great. My only quibble is it ended too quickly and I really, really wanted an epilogue. Oh well...

Rachel Gibson's ANY MAN OF MINE is out today too. So, maybe I'll venture out and pick that one up.

They really should be read in order. You wouldn't enjoy it much otherwise

I loved Emily Bryan's books. Didn't know she had a new pen name, though. I'll have to find this one!

I didnt find it believable at all. Forget the ghosts, it wasn't even that part, it was the lack of development in her characters, which is funny since you like her characters. I mean, North is barely in the book, and more than halfway through he makes an appearance finally. Then after a talk of what? 5 minutes tops, they are back together and happily ever after? How about working through issues. The fact that they had so much resentment after 10 years leads me to believe they still loved each other but those issues are not going to go away over night. Kristin Higgins knocked that one out of the park with My One and Only. IMO thats the way you do a divorce couple getting back together.
Then Andie's relationship with Alice was all there was to it. She barely spoke to Carter and she tells him she loves him after he overhears her telling that to Alice? Seriously?! I felt like he was an afterthought and that didn't sit well with me.
The only reason I would blast the book is because it was really easy to read. Other than that, it was a waste for me.

But I'm glad you enjoyed it ;-)

That's what I mean about her characters being so strong. You either love them or you hate them. That's how I felt about Tell Me Lies, and Getting Rid of Bradley and a few other JC books. I thought the romance was very weak in Maybe This Time. The relationship was all about Andie and Alice. So, it worked for me.

Mrs.ColinBridgerton | 62 comments Oh I know what you mean now. Yeah, I didnt really hate them, but I wasnt pleased with them either ha ha.
I love kids in romance, and I did enjoy Alice and Andie, but I felt like that was the only relationship she bothered to develope and considering there are a ton more characters that really ticked me off.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

I have DANGEROUS IN DIAMONDS and can't wait to start reading. I've really enjoyed this series.

Loved, loved, loved MIDNIGHT'S WILD PASSION!

Now reading WARRIOR OF THE ISLES by Debbie Mazzuca. It's a blend of medieval highlanders and the Fae kingdom. I enjoyed her debut a lot so have high hopes for this one.

Started Savage Nature bu C. Feehan, after that I'll start the last Love by No. by Sarah MacLean or the last Rachel Gibson book. Don't know which will be.

I finally finished EAST OF EDEN by John Steinbeck. It was good, and I am glad I took the time to read it. I am working on TO DESIRE A WICKED DUKE by Nicole Jordan and rereading OF MICE AND MEN by John Steinbeck because I decided, at the last minute, to use it in one of my classes.

I just read Dangerous in Diamonds. Not sure what to think of it. I felt like Castleford lost a lot of his charm and gaiety as he was reformed. On the other hand, Daphne couldn't possibly fall in love with a drunkard or a man who kept sleeping with whores. (In fact I found it very disconcerting at the end when she expressed surprise that he hadne't slept with anyone else since he met her...)
I guess I was hoping that Hunter would have found a way for him to focus all his joie de vivre on Daphne. I think that was what she tried to do but it didn't really work for me.

Also just read The Seduction of his Wife by Tiffany Clare and was disappointed in it. She has a lot of wonderful bits, but her characters and plot are so inconsistent. Was the hero in England at all during the 10 years he didn't see his wife? If he was, why didn't he see her--was he supposed to be actively avoiding her? The heroine is too proper when she's painting a Duke's mistress in the nude (and herself)? REALLY? And many moments where characters do things totally inconsistent with what we have just been told...

I felt like that about the first Dreyer book. The second Dreyer book worked better for me for two reasons: The hero falls for the heroine pretty quickly and does what he does because he's trying to protect her from attacks (he's afraid that if people know he cares for her she'll be used as a way to pressure him); and the worst things that are done to her are in fact not done to her by him but by others. His big failure--which she points out late in the book and he agrees--is that he should have just told her what was going on.

Sure. I'm definitely planning to read it so I'd be happy to.

Irisheyes | 896 comments Just finished 2 great historical reads - Susanna Fraser's AN INCONVENIENT MARRIAGE and THE SERGEANT'S LADY. TSL was published first and then AIM came out as a prequel, so I read them in chronological order instead of published order. It worked better for me that way. I really enjoyed both stories.

AIM was a marriage of convenience and cinderella story combined. I really liked Lucy and James. TSL was a road trip/following the drum book with great characters in Will and Anna.

I was a tad bit disappointed too, DLS. I can't really say why for fear of spoilers but I think she could have brought a certain development to light earlier in the book and shown the fallout. I think the chance to showcase Castleford in a different light could have been provided and it would have also given a chance for better character development where he was concerned - maybe explained reasons for his behavior.

I did, however, enjoy the interactions between all the gentlemen from the previous books. Those were perhaps some of my favorite scenes in the book.

All in all, it was a 4 to 4.5 star read for me but with a little tweaking could have easily been a 5.

Susan (susaninaz) | 1075 comments I just finished the anthology It Happened One Season. Not bad. The first novella, by Stephanie Laurens, was the weakest. All 3 others involve some form of PTSD, from survivor's guilt right through extreme nightmares; which are realistic problems one would expect from heroes who were not gravely wounded at Waterloo.

I read Mary Jo Putney's rewrite of The Bargain before that. I found it to be excellent, and the best story of the five.

I finished the last book in Nicole Jordan's Courtship Wars series. I was really disappointed in the last one. the pacing was kind of slow or erratic, the chemistry didn't really seem to be there, instead it was kind of forced. I was kind of disappointed and truthfully I skimmed parts because I just wanted to be done with it.

Next, I am going to read The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor. It is a YA novel that is a twist on Alice in Wonderland.
