K. Harry is fit to bee the chosen one because as J.K. Rowling says, he fits the prophecy and he is a half blood like Neville. And if Neville's parents died, he would go with his Gramma. Nothing exciting. Harry had to go through 11 years of torture. He proves it when he comes to school not toally helpless but not the best. Harry goes on all his adventures which Neville could do

ok, I mainly meant personality wise.
Let's forget about the prophecy.

Even personality wise, Neville seemed clumsy and not that brave in the first few books (but he got braver) so that wouldn't have helped him and Voldy would have come back to life in the first book.

Nicole | 37 comments But we're saying why Harry deserves to be the Chosen One, not why Neville shouldn't be. Does that make sense? So like: I agree that Harry was worthy to be the Chosen One 'cause he has great leadership skills and he proves that when he teaches DA, leads the Quidditch team, takes command in the battle in the Department of Mysteries etc.

Roshio | 17 comments I agree that Harry was fit to be the chosen one. I do think being the Chosen One kinda moulds you into being the Chosen One if you get what I mean. You have to do what you have to do. I think if Neville had been the chosen one, he'd have worked out just fine as well. He had the potential as we see the later books confirm. Harry was lucky though, if he hadn't Hermione or Ron with him, he'd have been majorly screwed.

Neville was scared though and it states I the first few books he wasn't good at magic that much and was clumsy, forgetful

Nicole | 37 comments Yep, and Harry is just naturally gifted at DADA which would be incredibly useful for the Chosen One whereas Neville is gifted at Herbology.

yah and Herbology isn't really the most useful subject in fighting Voldy

I'm not so sure about in the movies, though. My dad (the only person in my family who has not read HP) pointed out that Harry has about no personality in the films, and you never truly learned much about him. Of course, in the books, that's completely opposite.

If Harry Potter wasn't the main character, the chosen one, or anything else he turned out to be, it wouldn't feel right. Of course, it probably would, because we never would have read Harry Potter books. But, I feel as if Harry has the best reason of motivation to rid of You-Know-Who.
I mean, of course, Neville had his parents cursed to insanity, but Harry's died. I mean, I would much rather have my parents dead then have them be in a mental asylum, not remembering my face. But Harry has lost so much due to Voldemort's mere existence. He lost his Godfather, his parents, any future siblings he could have had, he lost his favorite Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, he lost another's parents (Teddy's) he lost Fred Weasly, and Moody. This probably also hurt Neville, but not as much as Harry himself.

All in all, Harry suits the job perfectly, and I can't imagine the Wizarding World without him.

Roshio | 17 comments That's my point exactly Silverstream. Its the very fact that by Voldemort making Harry the chosen one (thereby doing all the horrible things to Harry), he pushed Harry into being perfect. And so, we can reasonably conclude that If Voldemort had chosen Neville, that determination instilled in Harry would have been in Neville as well, and who knows he could have been a kick ass Chosen One.

Harry Potter was only able to defeat you-know-who due to the magic of his mother's love. If Neville had been the chosen one and his mother had been willing to die for him, I could see the same thing happening. Ultimately though, we'll never know.

p.s. I love James Mcavoy as well. lovely eyes.
