Hello fellow lushies :)

Feel free to start topics, add polls and do whatever else you feel like to make this place more comfy.
Choose a chair, grab your beverage of choice and settle down for a good read.
Please keep chatter down to a dull roar - after all this is a library ;)

Hi everyone! So what are we reading? I'm just polishing off The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which is a lovely book. Maybe a little trite in parts, but otherwise lovely.

So Kirsty (and everyone), what's the plan? Shall we choose a book to read together? Any thoughts on if, what and how often?

This is great - so glad to see you all here. Should be much easier than a thread on the lush forum:)
I've created a poll on whether we should have a monthly book to read. I was thinking we should start a voting thread for books we're interested in reading. Maybe start with award books that have been long listed so that we can narrow it down. Or any other suggestions for a list to choose books from?

Just out of interest, how many of you have ereaders? There are lots of free ebooks around we could read.

message 14: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 17 comments I have a kindle, i have had a few free books, but most are not my cup of tea.

message 15: by FebruaryStars (new)

FebruaryStars | 22 comments I have a Kindle. I have been trying to work my way through some of the classics that are free.

I have a kindle - got addicted to downloading books when i first got it and have loads of books bought from charity shops. I really want to find the time and brain power to read more and my kindle has made it easier.
There are some bargains out there :)

A lot of libraries have ebooks for download nowadays, so maybe we could find books to read there too.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi guys, ImMeSoHi here!
I'm up for a monthly book but again like Billiesue bit on the poor side but I can try to find whatever book is chosen.
Also don't have a Kindle (much more the paperback type as I like folding the cover back when I read =P).

~ Nicky x

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky McWilliams Guinness (billiesue) I have a kindle on my ipod but I never use it. I don't like reading it off a screen, I like the feeling of a book in my hands. Also I often read when I feel like I should have a break from the computer so reading off a screen would be no good!

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (Aliantha) | 22 comments Hi I'm Sarah (Aliantha on the forum)

I like the idea of a monthly book. I love talking about books with other people that have read them.

I have a kindle because I use the train a lot and it's more portable but I do like the feel of a real book!

message 21: by Emma (new)

Emma | 5 comments I think a monthly book is a good idea! And yeah I have the original Sony eReader, it is ANCIENT.. :P

message 22: by Claire (new)

Claire | 2 comments I'm up for a monthly book too, but like others have mentioned I am a bit on the poor side, but will try my best to get a copy of the book..My Mum has an e-reader - or she did have - so I'm sure she wont mind me borrowing it at times! I also think I can get something onto my phone, although I'm not to technical so would have to look into that.

Ten | 34 comments Hi all! *waves*
I don't know if I can join in the monthly book, I just bought a pile of 22 books so have a bit of reading to do first, but if it happens to be a book that appeals to me I might give it a go.
Can I please ask everyone, pretty pretty please, to not post spoilers of any kind? I know it might be stating the obvious but sometimes people get carried away and reveal far too much!
I have sent friend requests around so I can have you guys in my feed, feel free to ignore - I will not mind :)

if everyone nominates 3 books they can afford or already have then that would be great. If another book is chosen we'll try bookswapping or of course there is no pressure to read it if you can't afford it.
Even if you don't take part in the final read it would be good to see your nominations and other members might vote the same this month, or next, after reading your post :)

Well there would be bound to be spoilers in a discussion thread for a book we're all reading together (otherwise we couldn't discuss it properly!), but apart from that I agree - it's horrible when people ruin a book for you by giving away too much about the plot.

Maybe we can have a though so far thread which is spoiler free and a finished thread with spoilers :)

Ten | 34 comments Kirsty wrote: "Maybe we can have a though so far thread which is spoiler free and a finished thread with spoilers :)"
That is a good idea. Or else, if you want to mention something that would be a spoiler, you can start your review/post by something like
HERE BE SPOILERS
so people are forewarned and can then read or not read as they please :)

message 28: by Penjy (new)

Penjy | 6 comments Hello, I'm penjy on the forum and would love to join in too if that's OK?

I'm a book person too, as opposed to Kindle, but saying that liked it much more when I saw it than I thought I would in my head.

I'm reading The Distant Hours by Kate Morton right now, and enjoying it. A monthly book sounds good to me, although I'd probably try to get it from the library or GreenMetropolis rather than buying new.

tell me about it - my local charity shops have a lot to answer for ;) I find my kindle really easy to prop to read and lighter to carry around but there's nothing like buying a bargain book :)

message 30: by Sam (new)

Sam (niv_gutterflower) | 6 comments I've learnt to listen to my kindle in the bath and prefer reading it over a paperback, which I never thought I would as I love books! Altho I really hate spending more than £3 on a e-book! As paperbacks are nice and cheap, the books I'm wanting to read are: The help, water for elephants and one day. Can't decide what to start as just finished mybook this morning.

Hiya, I'm Violet74 on the forum. I love the idea of reading a book together. I can usually find one for a penny or near enough on Amazon Marketplace ... so I'd be fine with a monthly book. Although I might not be able to join in with all of them, as I've still got a stack of books waiting for me to get round to. I'll try though!
I'm not sold on a kindle yet, I just love the feel of a paperback.

message 32: by Ani (new)

Ani | 12 comments I don't like the thoughts of an e-reader.. I think I'll have to get one. I'm going away for 6 months and I just can't lug books around with me.
