Stacey Have you acquired any new books lately?

message 2: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I recently ordered The Night Circus, The Snowman, and The Winters in Bloom. Every now and then I stop by the Goodwill to check out the books. I left with Crunch Time. I was thrilled to have found it....at Goodwill of all places.

Leslie | 95 comments Reading Night Circus right now. Only recent purchase. I preordered Jeffrey Eugenides Marriage Plot in October. Night Circus is good so far...

message 4: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Most recent purchases were Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby and Back of Beyond by C.J. Box.

Heather Doherty | 96 comments These days I don't buy, I borrow. I did just finish a great new book though. The Leftovers had an original premise that also served as a subtle social comentary. What would society be like if almost everyone lost someone in an inexplicable way?

That sounds interesting Heather!! Oh my gosh, and I have that on my TBR list already. Loved Little Children by same author and am anxious to read more by him.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I have been on a book buying spree and got quite a few lately!
book:Haunting|12564040] by Alan Titchmarsh which I can't wait to read as I have loved his other romance ones.
Emily Goes to Exeter, Penelope Goes to Portsmouth, Belinda Goes to Bath and Agatha Raisin and the Wellspring of Death all by M.C. Beaton
The Innocent Mage by Karen Miller
What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Jamrach's Menagerie by Carol Birch - Booker prize nominee.
Eating Peaches: What Happens When You Swap City Lights for the Simple Life? by Tara Heavey
To Heaven By Water by Justin Cartwright
Pearls Are a Nuisance by Raymond Chandler
A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon
Never Look Away: A Thriller by Linwood Barclay

And that is before my birthday (hoping for waterstones gift cards!) and my trip to London Picadilly Branch and The Forbidden Planet!

So many books and so little time to read!

message 8: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I use the library rather than the bookstore, but this week I was given a copy of Second Nature: A Novel by the author herself!

message 9: by Melki (last edited Sep 23, 2011 12:56PM) (new)

Melki I won a book through Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ - The Prospect of My Arrival by Dwight Okita. I started it yesterday, and am happy to report - it's very good so far.

message 10: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I love finding little gems like that. It sounds interesting.

message 11: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) I've bought a few cookbooks because I'm cooking and baking more, mostly seasonal and vegetable cookbooks. I'm a fiend for farmers' market cookbooks. I'm trying to use the library more and currently am reading two books from there, but I have added some books to my Kindle:

The Daughter's Walk
The Emperor of Lies: A Novel
A Small Hotel: A Novel
A Good Hard Look
The Submission: A Novel
The Astral: A Novel
The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir

message 12: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I'd like to hear what you think of The Astral, Laurel. I like Kate Christensen.

message 13: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I was at Starbucks today and The Night Circus was the recommended book. Usually it's music.

This looks good. Added to my TBR.

I heard a radio interview with the author of Packing for Mars and thought it sounded fascinating.

message 18: by Mary (new)

Mary | 236 comments Periodically I call a halt to all buying, and that was the case during August and September. Just five more days to go! I feel like going hog-wild once I'm sprung from my self-imposed prison, but that would only defeat the purpose of cutting back. I buy waaay more books than I can read (big surprise)! There's no doubt, though, that I'll be grabbing up FALLING TOGETHER by Marisa de los Santos as soon as it's released next week on Oct. 4!

I read one of her others, Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers and loved it. I know the subject matter sounds morbid and gross, but this book is fascinating! I tried her other one, Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, but I didn't like that so returned it to the library not long after getting it. I am not sure I will pick up Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife. It sounds interesting, but I don't think the reviews have been as good. Packing for Mars, however, has gotten stellar reviews. I hope I love it as much as I loved Stiff.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) Had a great time in London yesterday and bought 5 books from The Forbidden Planet and I must say Waterstones in Picadilly is fantastic and very civil with its coffee shop and bar!

The Magicians and Mrs. Quent and The House on Durrow Street by Galen M. Beckett

Light Vision Simultaneous Dimension Series, Book One , Vol. 1 by Coco Tralla

Magus of Stonewylde and Solstice at Stonewylde by Kit Berry
