Aestas Book Blog Hi Mercy Thompson readers, I have a question about the series in general that will determine if I want to read it or not...

I don't want to read the spoiler reviews because I don't want to spoil the story for myself, but I'd really want to know something about Mercy and Adam.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that Adam is Mercy's main guy of the series? Do they have a relatively steady relationship or are they on-and-off, sleeping around with random other people, fighting all the time etc??

If you could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks :)

Gerd It's a steadily progressing relationship with some friendly bickering between the two.
So far Patricia Briggs has show herself as a modest writer, so I don't expect there any sleeping around to occur at any point in the series. :D

Amy No sleeping around, which I have to say I found refreshing compared to many other series I've read.

Aestas Book Blog ok thank you -very good to know :) so somewhat like Mac/Barrons and Kate/Curran then?

message 5: by Joy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Joy great book series...the relationship between mercy and adam is endearing and beautiful..you will NOT be dissapointed picking up this series:)))

Aestas Book Blog haha ok perfect. as soon as this one comes out in soft cover, ill go out and buy them all... i just hate having like 5 soft covers and then 1 hard cover lol.

thank you for all your inputs! can't wait to check this series out :)

Fangs for the Fantasy Adam and Mercy are pretty much paired up from the start but I want to warn you that their relationship carries all the hallmarks of an abusive relationship though Briggs excuses it by calling it werewolf nature. If this were in real life, Mercy would be looking to get a restraining order on Adam.

Aestas Book Blog thats ok... people feel the same way about Edward being stalk-y etc in Twilight and I still loved it... when I read books, I'm not looking to read normal, human relationships. I will give a lot more leniency for paranormal beings :P

Cheryl And let's not forget Kate/Curran that you reference. Gosh, you would think these werewolves would be a bit more PC. haha

Lisa-Marie I have all the books and the spin off. so worth reading not as good as fever but hey what is?

Karen Marie Moning dreamfever bloodfever darkfever faefever and dreamfever so good its with Mac and Barrons i have not found anything better and i am at nearly 600 books in the past 4 years

You must check them out. But best to get all the books at once. It sucked big ones waiting a year (even a week sometimes) for the next book to come out. And don't make plans until you are finished. A lot of WTF moments.

Michielle Lisa-Marie wrote: "I have all the books and the spin off. so worth reading not as good as fever but hey what is?"

Good call Lisa! Loved that series, read the Highlanders after.

message 15: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog I totally agree. The Fever series is one of the best ones out there. But definitely plan to be able to read them in succession because they are essentially one big story with massive cliffhangers between them so you'll probably want to inhale them all at once. But you are pretty much guaranteed to love them :)

Gerd Lisa-Marie wrote: "Karen Marie Moning dreamfever bloodfever dar..."

They sound to be on the more explicit side, though, closer to a Merry Gentry series?

message 17: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog They do have explicit scenes. But the way the scenes are written is not over-the-top explicit.
The sex in it is quite emotionally charged and the author definitely doesn't rush into anything.
There is an instance of rape. But it is not explicit.

I'd say that this series straddles the line between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Its plot is extremely well developed.

Lisa-Marie no would have to say they are not close to Merry Gentry in the sex. I agree that all 5 must be read at once, I reread the first 4 when the last came out. Love merry wish the next book would come out already.

OK guys....I have the first Fever book in my Nook and was wondering what series to read next...so just started this morning. :)

Wow ..thanks.. i will give them a whirl

Jennifer I have heard a lot of good things about the fever series as well and picked up the first book used awhile ago but haven't read it. I'll definitely have to read it soon since I haven't read anything that good lately. I'm actually reading River Marked right now and I'm kind of bored with it. I love Mercy & Adam but find the whole river monster and otterkins to be boring.

Cheryl Jennifer wrote: "I have heard a lot of good things about the fever series as well and picked up the first book used awhile ago but haven't read it. I'll definitely have to read it soon since I haven't read anything..."

Kind of agree on the river monster and otterkins. I LOVE the series....but this last book just didn't seem as "Full" as the others. I did enjoy the interplay between her and her "dad" though.

Just finished the first Fever book....just started the 2nd. haha.

Jennifer K Jovus Niether Adam or Mercy are the sleep around type. They are just both too stubborn to commit to each other. I am an Adam and Mercy fan and without spoiling anything will just say that I am very, very pleased with the series. :)

message 24: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog does it look like they'll end up committing by the end of the series?

Jennifer K Jovus Ys, it looks like it. (you will like River Marked)

message 26: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog k last question, since the next book doesnt come out till 2013 (!!!) , does River Marked end on a cliffhanger??

Emily Aestas wrote: "k last question, since the next book doesnt come out till 2013 (!!!) , does River Marked end on a cliffhanger??"

No River Marked doesn't end on a cliffhanger, I'd say most if not all of Briggs' books could be read as stand alones (but of course are better in series:).

message 28: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog perfect :) cliffhangers really suck when authors arent churning out the books lol

Jennifer K Jovus No not a cliffhanger, more of a promise of things to come. Rivermarked was different than other M.T. books. It seemed a little more emotional and transition-like. I think if you like the series you will probably enjoy where you are heading. OOOH! I can't wait to hear if you like it. Message me if you post a review so I can read it. :)

message 30: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog hahaha ok will do :)

Mithrendiel I have to put in a good word for the Fever series as well - it's AMAZING. Honestly the best series I've read all year, and it ranks in my top 5 best series of all time. :)

As for Mercy and Adam - their relationship compares more closely to the Kate/Curan match up. The relationship progresses slowly and there's a lot of wondering if they'll end up together (which I love - romantic suspense is delicious). Both are loyal, and don't sleep around. Both characters are fantastic and very likeable. The romance elements of this series are really well done and swoon worthy.

message 32: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog out of curiosity, do the 2 of them get more screen time than Kate/Curran did?

Mithrendiel Aestas wrote: "out of curiosity, do the 2 of them get more screen time than Kate/Curran did?"

I'd say yes - Kate was always going off and doing things on her own. Mercy and Adam do quite a bit together. In fact they have one whole book (the most recent one) dedicated 100% to them working together to solve a mystery.

message 34: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog yay :) that was the only thing that bugged me about K/C... they'd spend the whole book apart and then be together for 10 pages at the end. i loved the booked but wished for more screen time. thanks for the info :)

Happy to help! :) I wished for more interaction between Kate and Curran while reading the Magic series too. They were just so fantastic together with all the witty banter and playing. Le sigh. Hopefully they'll get more joint screen time in future books.

Well, you could get them from your local library, even as audiobooks or e-pub books. Lots of options for today's readers : - )

Missyb Aestas wrote: "Hi Mercy Thompson readers, I have a question about the series in general that will determine if I want to read it or not...

in the beginning it was a push pull kind of relationship. His daughter & Mercy would pick on him and try to get under his skin. He laid claim to her to protect her per a request/order from Bran. Eventually more developed, and eventually she came around and they've been exclusive.

What is the spin off???

Lauren (aplpeach) What series are Kate/Curan from?

Leanne Kate and Curran are from the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, starts with Magic Bites. Great series!!

Awesome series!! One of my favorites!! :)

Aestas Book Blog The Kate Daniels spin off series is called The Edge and its reallllllly good - IMO better than the Kate series even.

On The Edge
Bayou Moon
Fate's Edge

Oh ok, I thought she meant a spin off of mercy thompson. I have on the edge downloaded for a sample on my kindle. It usually gives me the first chapter or two depending on how long the book is or what the author/publisher is willing to give as the free sample, so that will be the next one that i read since everyone in this discussion says they are excellent books

Leanne There is a spin off the Mercy Thompson series called Alpha and Omega series if you want to check that out too.... Also good, but I personally like Mercy better...:-)

Claire I have read all the ones that have been out so far and have not one bad word to say about them. Its one of my fave series.

Aestas Book Blog does it make sense to read either Mercy or A+O first or does it not matter?

Renee Aestas wrote: "does it make sense to read either Mercy or A+O first or does it not matter?"

Technically should read A+O including the short in "On the Prowl" (An anthology-which starts A+O series). and then read the Mercy Thompson books. Book 1 of Mercy Thompson and short and 1st book of A+O overlap. Second book of A+O comes between book 1 and 2 of Mercy Thompson. I loved them all and have still not decided which series I like better.

message 49: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog Perfect. I own AO already but still have to buy mercy. I'll start there :)

This is pretty accurate. There is a bit of a love triagle of sorts for a bit but definitely no slutty behavior. lol
