Winter Challenge 2011: Task Ideas

A book about the North Pole or Antarctica, where they have the coldest winters.
Giving to others is an important part of some winter holidays. Read a book where helping others is part of the theme, or is the job of a major character.
For earth:
Read a book that involves a mine or something that is mined. Or that has the name of something from a mine in the title of the book (coal, gold, silver, diamond, etc.)

There's a good chance you have to travel barely a metre on earth to find one: read a book with a type of insect on the cover or in the title of the book.

Chinese New Year is 23 January and it's the Year of the Dragon -- books with dragons on the cover, or in the title, or about dragons/dragon-shifters.
Valentine's Day -- red or pink cover, or a couple on the cover, or a romance.
2012 is a Leap Year - book titles with 29 letters, author names with 29 letters. Book titles with the word "leap".

I forgot it was a leap year. One extra day to complete the winter challenge!

At the end of the calendar year, many people like to make changes in their life. Read a book with the words "out" "old" "in" or "new" in the title.
'Round here:
Earth is round, read a book with something round on the cover.

Hidden gems are found deep in the earth. Therefore, find a hidden gem to share, SRC style, by reading a book with less than 100 ratings.

How about a second English (or foreign language) class lesson task: parts of speech... or words with more than one meaning? (This will have to be a two-book task.)
Parts of speech:
E.g. The Last Summer Of The Death Warriors (death = noun) and Dead Until Dark (dead = adjective)
Two meanings (as well as parts of speech):
E.g. Catching Fire and Fire Me Up

So, if your resolution is to "try new things", you could read a new author. Or if your resolution is to "travel more", read a book in a country where you want to visit.

So you could read a book first published during Victoria's looooong reign, 1837 - 1901, or set during that time. (The group "Victorians!" has a bookshelf of over 150 titles.)

Since the earth is a planet in the solar system, read a book with planet, sun, solar, or the name of a planet or other heavenly body in the title (therefore, Pluto can be counted).

Read two different books, each set in a country on a different continent.
Read a book with a physical "earth" feature in the title such as mountain, valley, island, peninsula, canyon.

As in past challenges, some tasks may revolve around the seasonal theme of WINTER. Others may reflect the bonus theme of EARTH. Other tasks may have nothing to do with either of these themes (they’re just fun ideas for unique reading challenges).
Feel free to post as many ideas as you can come up with. Don't worry about repeating what another player might have already suggested. The more ideas, the better!
The moderators will draw from these ideas as well as their own to create the 5,10, and 15 point tasks. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
