Anwebb Where I'm Calling From by Raymond Carver is an excellent book of short stories that, while I was unsure of at first due to my limited history with Carver's writing, I have come to highly enjoy reading. I find that in their short story nature bound in such a large collection, it's easy for me to tear through 50 pages in one sitting, and if I had the time even more.

What I do worry about is what I'm taking from these short stories as a result of my easy enjoyment however. In literature and writing classes, we've spent entire hours (or more) talking about just one of Carver's stories. Things I had never even thought about were brought to my attention through discussion, and only after class was over did I feel like I had actually gotten the story I was meant to have gotten from Carver's writing.

When I read through a collection as large and easy to read as this, I seriously worry that I'm missing the trees for the forest. This is certainly a book that I am going to have to hang onto for a long time and keep coming back to, reading a different story each time and really giving myself time to appreciate and think through it the second or third time.
