Jess | 3721 comments I don't know if anyone watches the show (I've heard it's good but haven't seen it yet) but the season 2 promo was just released and it looks really good. It's making me want to pick up the book and get back into it which I've been delaying since it's so long.

Amber Center | 9 comments The books were wonderful and the show is just as good. I would recommend it

Jess | 3721 comments Thanks Amber! I'm trying to see if I can get a hold of season 1 somewhere.

Penny Greenhorn I've been meaning to read this series for a long time, but then I made the mistake of watching the show first. It's really good, but now that I know what's going to happen, I'm no longer rushing to read the books.
Also, I glanced at the reviews for this series, and I think it is the 4th and 5th books that don't do very well, everyone seemed a little annoyed. Has anyone read the whole series? Does it really go down hill after book 3?

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I am in a buddy read and we are on book 4 of this series, set to start reading in October. I love it! Book 1 was absolutely amazing; Book 2 was more difficult to read but still very good; Book 3 was back to being absolutely amazing. What they say is true however, don't get attached to anyone. I'm interested to see what he does in Book 4. So much is still hanging. But this is definitely a book that you can throw up against a wall and scream. It's nice to read it with someone else so you can scream together!
I have watched Season 1 and 2 of the series and really like it. It is taken almost directly from the books and the only difference I can see that is major is that there is way more sex in the TV show. But I can't picture Tyrion any other way but the actor who plays him.

I've heard the 'don't get attached to anyone' suggestion before, which stinks, because I already have some favorites, and if they kick the bucket, then I'll be mad!
Good luck with your buddy read, I'm not good at those, they require too much commitment.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) If you would like to join us, we are extremely casual! Mostly we check in every 100 pages or so and scream out our frustration.

lol. Still stuck on book one. Just let me know how book 4 holds up, the reviews aren't kind. I think maybe the author feels rushed? I heard his first novels took years longer to complete. Good luck!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Book 4 was extremely difficult! I don't think he was rushed - he explains it at the end of the book. He wrote this huge book that was too big to be published as is. So instead of cutting it in half, he divided it by groups of people. So basically book 4 is full of people that you don't care about and don't really like. (I'm exaggerating slightly!). Though some important stuff does happen, it just feels really slow.

Are you going to keep reading the series?

message 12: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Yes, I will definitely read the next one - I have a buddy read set up for January - in another group. I have to find out what's going to happen next after I've invested so much time and energy into it. And I've heard #5 is good. All the people we care about are in it - though he probably kills them all off LOL!
