Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments I finished Wanted Undead or Alive (Love at Stake, #12) by Kerrelyn Sparks for favorite supe on 4/16 and give it 4*'s. It was a cute read. This one was about Phineas and Brynley. We have read about Phineas throughout the many Love at Stake books and he has always provided much comic relief. That would be this story's main downfall, the jokes sometimes got a bit too corny. The story was good though, two individuals that had led difficult lives to get where they are today. Phineas doubted that a werewolf princess could love and spend her life with a former drug dealer from the bronx that was now a vampire. Bryn has trouble believe anyone could love her for who she is and not what her father and her position could do for them. This series is always a good enjoyable read that you just don't have to do a whole lot of thinking through.

Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne

Book:Houndedby Kevin Hearne
Read: 16 April 2012
Rating: ★★.5

I enjoyed this book. I loved the incredible amount of pop-culture references Hearne managed to insert into one novel.
I enjoyed the world he created - I've not read any novels about druids before and I loved how he managed to get so many different types of supernatural creatures into his world.

I liked the characters - Oberon the talking dog was my favourite. Atticus at times annoyed me for some reason... I think it's because he acts like a teenager at times when he's supposed to be thousands of years old but then at the same time, I liked how young he seemed - not like many vampire novels I've read where the hero is just tired of life after living for so long.

An entertaining read - I found myself laughing quite a few times - and one that was fairly fast paced.

Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, #1) by G.A. Aiken

Book:Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken
Read: 17 April 2012
Rating: ★★

I liked this book. It was light hearted and easy enough to read that I finished it in a day. I liked the characters - blood thirsty female warriors are one of my favourite things in books - and the dragon, Fearghus, was gorgeous.

My main problem was it was a little too predictable. There was nothing in this story that surprised me in the slightest.

I enjoyed the Dragon Family and the second story in the book that is about Fearghus' parents.

Sorry my review is a bit light on. I just wasn't inspired enough to write anything more. I'm much more of a reader than a writer :P

AmandaG (amandag3) | 122 comments Finished Grave Witch on 4/17/12 for the Fave Supe shelf. 4 Stars.
Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price

Where has this book been all my life? I really enjoyed this book, found it hard to put down and finished it in the same day I started it. Loved Alex and all the other characters that surrounded her. I felt like the book had a great balance of action-plot-character development and the perfect (for me) amount of romance I look for in a UF book.

Not suprisingly there is a love triangle. One thing I found refreshing was that Alex was scared by her feelings for one of the other characters, being that she is usually a love them and kick them out kind of girl. It's something I'm interested in seeing her work through. Plus, in MANY love triangles, it is very obvious who the heroine will end up with and it feels like there is no suspense in who she will end up choosing (I'm looking at you Stephanie Plum and Bella Swan), even though the author would like us to believe that the other guy has a shot.

Anywho, there were a couple of unexpected turns, the dialogue was funny, the world building was excellent and I can't wait to read the next. My only disappointment is in finding out there isn't a whole lot of books out already.

Leah | 880 comments Finished my fav supe read. Review is below:

Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1) by Lara Adrian
Book: Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian
Date Finished: 18-Apr-12
Rating: ★★

Basically, the plotline of Kiss of Midnight is that a group of warrior vampires (dudes only) are fighting other vampires (also dudes only). The leader of the first group falls in love with a human, much hot lovin and tension ensue. Very similar to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, except that there aren't any female vamps.

This was definitely a 'starter' book in a series. There was a lot of information dumps about who characters were, why they were fighting, their pasts, etc. I would have preferred the information to be inserted a little bit more sneakily. Every time we encountered a secondary character, there was an extra little blurb on something new about their history. I imagine this would probably improve with the next book though.

I liked Lucan and Gabrielle's story. While I felt like the 'fighting the rogue vampire' plotline was predictable, I liked that I didn't know how Lucan or Gabrielle were going to react to situations. It made their love story a bit more unpredictable.

Overall, a decent read. Not sure if I will try book two. There's just so many other paranormal romances out there now, I don't know if I would choose to try the next one rather than try something altogether new.

Well, in truth, Death has not been given an opportunity to prove he can cook/clean yet. Let's give the guy a chance. Although, yes, you certainly have a point Christina about there being a few... really only slight... problems to dating someone from a different plane of existence. Not to mention him having to probably leave every 5 minutes to take another soul...

Yeah, I had trouble getting into it too. The only time I felt like I had to keep reading to find out what happened next was near the end of the book.
I found it just 'okay' in every way. Okay characters, Okay plotline, Okay writing. Nothing spectacular.

Up soon is Serpent's Kiss (Elder Races, #3) by Thea Harrison so hopefully it's good. I loved the first in this series, and the second was alright too.

Armed & Magical (Raine Benares #2) by Lisa Shearin
Armed & Magicalby Lisa Shearin - ★★★★ - 14 Apr 12
Armed & Magical picks up where the first book ended.

Paladin Mychael Eiliesor has brought Raine -- along with her cousin Phaelan and her landlady's grandson, Piaras -- to the Isle of Mid in order to confer with Archmagus Justinius Valerian, head of the Conclave of Sorcerers. Piaras, a talented spellsinger, is hoping to be admitted into the school, but it's Raine's bond with the soul-sucking Saghred that's the main reason for the trip. With the new term about to start at the Conclave, the archmagus is busy overseeing the events when they arrive. Before Raine gets the chance to speak with Justinius, there is an attack and students start to disappear.

More than one group is pursing Raine because of her bond with the Saghred, and there are those who are interested in Piaras's spellsinger abilities. They are seen as valuable weapons, even by their own people, the elves. Mychael has promised to protect them both and do everything in his power to help Raine. If Mychael had his way, she would be tucked safely away behind magic wards and protective spells, but Raine can't sit back and do nothing when others are in danger because of her.

Raine is a fun character. I like her a lot. She can take care of herself, but with the Saghred as her "psychic roommate", she knows she needs all the help she can get. She's also a little afraid -- she doesn't want anyone to get hurt because of her. But none of that stops her from helping as best she can. Raine's protective of Piaras, who she loves as if he was her little brother, and will do anything to keep him safe, even if it puts her into more danger.

Despite their rocky first meeting, Mychael is interested in Raine. The attraction is mutual. Too bad about the soul-sucking rock. As paladin, he's obligated to safeguard the Saghred and prevent it from being used as a weapon; however, the man is just as determined to find a way to break the bond between Raine and the Saghred.

I'm always a bit leery of triangles, but I really don't see Tam as a true rival. Raine has known Tam for awhile. She has had plenty of opportunities to get involved with him long before Mychael entered the picture. And now with the Saghred messing with her magic, the attraction she feels isn't really her feelings for him. She cares about him as a friend.

The book has some fun moments. I particularly liked Raine's attempt to check books out of the library. And later, when she uses her Saghred-enhanced magic to glamour herself to look like her cousin -- it has some unexpected results.

Play of Passion (Psy-Changeling, #9) by Nalini Singh
Play of Passion by Nalini Singh - ★★★★ - 15 Apr 12
If anyone thought Andrew "Drew" Kincaid would have an easier time mating than his brother and sister, they must not know the Kincaid family very well.

Drew's the pack's tracker and -- when needed -- the executioner. He's dominate enough to be a lieutenant, but because of his job, he and Hawke feels it is best that he not be part of the hierarchy, making him more approachable. His easy-going nature allows troubled pack mates to come to him with their problems, hopefully before things spiral so far out of control, he has to take them down.

Indigo is the highest ranking female in the pack -- out-ranked only by Hawke and Riley. She's older than Drew by four years, but because of his charming, easy-going nature and the fact her wolf is confused about his status in the pack, she doesn't view him as a potential mate. She's seen what an unequal mating is like firsthand, and she isn't about to make that mistake. However, she isn't as immune to his charming ways as she thought. The one person who would understand what she's going through, and give advise, isn't around: Mercy and Riley are visiting her family.

I really liked Drew, his charm and playfulness, balancing out his responsibility to the pack. I was surprised how easily he opened up to Indigo about his past. I also liked that this book was about two members of the same pack.

The Psy got a lot more focus in this book. The Scotts are becoming more aggressive with their push for purity. They are almost successful in their mission against the SnowDancers.

This book also had a few interactions between Hawke and Sienna. I can't wait to read their book.

This was another cereal for dinner book for me :P
I can't believe how much I enjoyed it. After hearing such good things about this book for so long - I was nervous that I was going to be disappointed by having too high expectations.

But I'm glad I read it. I loved the concept. People choosing which society to live in based on an aptitude test. From the first time Beatrice saw the Dauntless jumping out of trains - I loved their faction and was hoping she'd pick them.

Four was my favourite character - he's smart and interesting.

There are a lot of twists and turns in this story right from the start. The characters are great and I am so excited to read the sequel.

I'm a terrible review writer because when I'm this excited about a book I feel like anything I write will spoil things for people who haven't read it or I'll just keep gushing like a fan girl and put wayyy too many smileys in.
