message 51: by Swiftsea (new)

Swiftsea Just completed the Library of Shadows; and have read about 3 chapters of Matched.

message 52: by Tim (new)

Tim Finished the first two books in Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files," and I'm now reading the third. After this one, I think I'm going to start The Wheel of Time. I read the first two books 20 years ago, but can recall little of the story.

Even if the story never ended? (Wait, am I even talking about the same 'Wheel of Time'?)

message 54: by Pj (new)

Pj Just finished A Feast for Crows.
Ten chapters into A Dance with Dragons.
Mistborn trilogy after that!
Busy month lol

message 55: by Sofie (new)

Sofie (duskbloom) Just got talked into finally reading A Game of Thrones so that's what I'll be doing now...thankfully there's a school break in two weeks, plenty of time then to read whatever else is on my mind.

message 56: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey | 7 comments I am reading the Outlander Series. Finished book 1 and almost through Dragonfly in Amber. A friend recommended the series to me. Different from what I usually read, but it's a good read so far. Next I plan to read Malazan Book of the Fallen Series.

I'm on my school break but mum came to visit so no reading for me! I have begun Rise of Empire

2 previous months are staying at the top of this folder, I think they need editing?

Gah! Thanks for reminding me. Done.

message 59: by Kate (new)

Kate | 42 comments Just finished The Alloy of Law. I thought it was just okay until I got to the last 50 pages or so, and then I realized I actually had no idea what was really going on. Brandon Sanderson is such a great writer.

message 60: by Twisted_Stitch (new)

Twisted_Stitch (confabulate-cookie) | 5 comments I'm still reading Catching Fire in the Hunger Game series

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

Just recently finished with A Dance With Dragons and yes, I loved it. Started on House of Chains.

message 62: by Melanie (last edited Feb 16, 2012 02:48PM) (new)

Melanie I'm working through my unread 'Classics' shelf at the moment, but hoping to get to A Storm of Swords and The Alloy of Law this month too.

message 63: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Right now am listening to The Shadow of the Wind and reading Ship of Destiny. Really enjoying both.

message 64: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I am reading Snow Crash, which is so good. Then onto a book I just picked up for $0.25 at used bookstore, look brand new, Hounded, along with the first Anne Bishop book, Daughters of the Blood. Then afterward or before Hounded, have not decided, reading Dawn and The Accident by Elie Wiesel.

message 65: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (hottoddie) I've just started Storm Front , the first Dresden files. 3o pages in and I think I will enjoy it. Its a good read but not a great read...yet! Its early days however

message 66: by Traci (new)

Traci 11/22/63. I was hesitant because of the Kennedy assassination thing but I'm really liking this book.

message 67: by Tim (new)

Tim Elaine wrote: "I've just started Storm Front , the first Dresden files. 3o pages in and I think I will enjoy it. Its a good read but not a great read...yet! Its early days however"

I thought Storm Front was OK, the second book was a bit better, and the third (Grave Peril) was a significant improvement over both.

message 68: by Roy (new)

Roy I'm reading 'Perfect Murder Perfect Town' by Lawrence Schiller, which looks into the murder of JonBenet Ramsay (a 6 year old Beauty Pageant Princess)

message 70: by Scott (new)

Scott | 25 comments Finished The Victorian Underworld and am halfway through The Heroes.

message 71: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Baxter (smallblondehippy) Still slogging my way through The Malazan Book of the Fallen. Currently on book 5 - Midnight Tides. It's the second time I've read the series, all in preparation for reading The Crippled God at the end.

Oh, and I'm reading The Book of Deacon by Joseph Lallo on Kindle as well.

Heir of Novron, been left in a cliff edge...

message 73: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Expedition to the Mountains of the Moon (which was bleak but quite good) and started The Emperor's Knife by Mazarkis Williams.

message 74: by Traci (new)

Traci Now reading Monster Hunter Vendetta. I think this has become my favorite urban fantasy series. Love it.

message 75: by Kate (new)

Kate | 42 comments Elizabeth wrote: "Oh, and I'm reading The Book of Deacon by Joseph Lallo on Kindle as well."

How are you liking The Book of Deacon? I have it sitting on (in?) my Kindle as well, and it seems to have gotten some good reviews.

message 76: by Swiftsea (new)

Swiftsea Completed Matched. Moving on to assignments.

message 77: by Fay (new)

Fay | 20 comments I'm currently reading The Silicon Mage by Barbara Hambly.

message 78: by Thomas (new)

Thomas M (snowprince) So far this month I have read "The Warded Man" & "The Desert Spear." I try to read a book a week depending on obviously if I have the time and how long the book is, but since finishing those two books I have been having a lot of trouble with my reading. For instance, I can't figure out I want to read because I have so many great books to choose from out of my little personal library and the two books I have started I can't seem to stay focused and get into them.
At first I picked up the Sword of Shannara, despite the reviews I read about it here because I wanted to read a more basic Good vs. Evil Tolkein type fantasy since lately I've been going more with gritty, dark, GRRM fantasy's. I read the first 70 pages and I wasn't that bad even though I do agree with the reviews here that say its basically a re-write of LOTR but I own so many great books that I just can't wait to move on to one of them.
So then I picked up Assassins Apprentice and so far I liked it but I just haven't been focusing when I read and since I picked up 5 days ago I have only read around 70 pages.
So hopefully I can stick with this one and really get into it because I've been I'm not used not having something to read and it's really irritating.

Stay with it! the three in the series are well worth the journey!

message 82: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Still reading Game of Thrones. Still. Reading.
Spending more time with other projects, takes time away from reading; also busy at work.

Masha Toit Fay wrote: "I'm currently reading The Silicon Mage by Barbara Hambly."

Antryg Windrose! The coolest wizard. Love that book, and the others in the series too.

message 84: by Nick (new)

Nick Marsden (nepharid) | 27 comments I've been reading IT books for school. :( I've also been helping my cousin's wife sort out her YA fantasy romance (which is not my favorite genre, but a story is a story). At the beginning of the month, I chewed through some Sherlock Holmes and was VERY disappointed in all of them except "A Study in Scarlet".

message 85: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I'm trying to read though Philip K. Dick, with Galactic Pot-Healer, The World Jones Made, and then onto The Game-Player of Titan.

Pauline Ross (paulinemross) Thomas wrote: "since finishing those two books I have been having a lot of trouble with my reading. I have this problem if I finish a series or read a really great book which gets under my skin - I end up still thinking about it afterwards, so I can't focus on a new book. And if I do start something, it seems really meh by comparison. What I do is read something completely different - non-fiction, or a mindless formulaic murder mystery, or something. It acts like a palate cleanser - like sorbet :-)

I am currently making my way through ADWD and loving it... ordered Malazan book of the fallen entire saga and cant wait for it to arrive so I can burrow myself deep into that one

message 88: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell Safeway (monstewer) | 15 comments Been reading The Pillars of the Earth after a couple of friends started raving about it. I'm missing my fantasy fix and he has a strangely sparse, stilted style I'm not that fond of but I'm at 28% of the way through and with reading time being so short lately, I'd hate to see that go to waste so plodding on through it.

message 89: by Traci (new)

Traci Read The Gunslinger. Reading The Drawing of the Three. I like the series okay so far and finishing it no matter what because I bought all seven without reading the first one. Maybe not one of my brightest ideas.

message 90: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I'm reading The Fall of Hyperion, which is just as good as the other three books in the series. Its the only one I have not read yet.

Joseph | 1651 comments Traci wrote: "Read The Gunslinger. Reading The Drawing of the Three. I like the series okay so far and finishing it no matter what because I bought all seven without reading the first on..."

I think books 2, 3 and 4 are the best of the lot. But I'm at least glad that he sat down and finished it.

message 92: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Ball After seeing Wicked at the theatre in London, I decided to read Wicked, which was nowhere near as good as the musical, of course. I have now just started (again!) this months Book club read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

message 93: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished The Emperor's Knife, which was quite good, and started A Cruel Wind: A Chronicle of the Dread Empire by Glen Cook. Now that the final Dread Empire book (A Path to Coldness of Heart) is finally out (the penultimate volume came out in 1988) I figured it was time to go back and revisit.

message 94: by Katkenoh (new)

Katkenoh I'm an overachiever and love to read more than one genre at a time. I'm currently reading "Bella Tuscany" by Frances Mayes, "Deadly Decisions" by Kathy Reichs, and "Side Jobs" by Jim Butcher.
Soon as I finish these three, I will probably start, "A Dance with Dragons" by GRRM and "Oh come ye back to Ireland" by Niall Williams. Good grief! I am such a book geek.

I read it a couple of years ago, and ultimately loved it. Once I got through the tedious explanations of the inner workings of the Catholic Church it moved quicker and the plots thicked....The mini-series was pretty good too.

As a companion to Pillars of the Earth you could do a lot worse than Cathedral: The Story of Its Construction by David Macaulay. It's an illustrated children's book about building a cathedral; really helpful to get an understanding of the architecture and terminology.

If I can get it at my library, I'll take a look, but my Art History class(which I liked a lot) provided visual references that helped those parts go smoother.

I LOVED the Pillars of The Earth miniseries. I wish I could go back and watch it again for the first time. I haven't read the book yet but I plan to sometime in the future.

I'm reading Old Man's War. I like it so much that I wish I could just sit down and read it until I'm down. Darn homework...

message 99: by Traci (new)

Traci I loved Pillars of the Earth. But I'm a sucker for big epic stories. ;)

message 100: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I wasn't expecting to like Pillars of the Earth when I first read it, but it was quite amazing. I just loved the scope of the story and how long in encompassed.
