Excellent! I'd like the other series' added and an overall folder. Brill.

Also, I'd like to nominate The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by Jemisin if I'm not to late.

Amelia (narknon) | 523 comments I'll second the Dark Tower series. I've never read any Stephen King. I think his fantasy series looks interesting. Plus it could give me a feel of his writing style and I could decide if I want to try any of his other stuff.

OK-Good news, and of course, bad news! the Mistborn: The Final Empire series will be replacing Malazan Book of the Fallen! Yay!

But 2nd place was a tie...lol. From the feedback we were getting, what we will do is start Wheel of Time after Ryria Revelations (since its a much longer series) Jon will moderate this one. This is good since the final book is coming out in January, so the timing will be about right.

We will do First Law as our next series, probably right after Mistborn.

message 58: by Ben (new)

Ben (bstanley52) | 39 comments I like this compromise. Since I'm catching up on Malazan and itching to read Mistborn I probably won't be able to start WoT with everyone but I'm glad that all parties interested in these series get a shot soon.

message 59: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) I've added all the books to the to-read bookshelf.

Couple of questions for readers:

Do we include The Alloy of Law as part of Mistborn? If so, then I need to squeeze it in before we start the First Law Trilogy.

And, with respect to the Wheel of Time, do we include New Spring, the prequel?

Thanks, Jon

message 60: by Traci (new)

Traci My vote would be yes to The Alloy of Law. I loved that book. Lol. :)

I can't wait to start in on Mistborn and see if it's as great as I remember.

I'll be reading Wheel of Time too. Busy months coming up.

If you do decide to include it, I would recommend you include it in order of publishing (i.e. between books 10 and 11), rather than start off the readthrough with it.

Amelia (narknon) | 523 comments I think it's great that we can do three series. I've actually been amazed at how many different people participated in the discussion on the Riyria books. I think people who are interested in the different series will read what they want. Having a combination of long and short series gives everyone, including those just joining the group, the opportunity to join in where they want without feeling too overwhelmed.

Thank you, Amelia. I feel exactly the same way.

Helen | 1 comments So starting with Alloy of Law?

message 69: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) Helen wrote: "So starting with Alloy of Law?"

I don't understand the question.

If you mean, would we start the Mistborn series read with Alloy of Law, I don't know. I have it but have not read it yet. I thought it was set in a later time period and it was published after the trilogy, so logically, it would come after the first three, correct?

Correct me if I'm confused.

Maggie K | 1208 comments Mod
Right Jon-the Alloy of Law would be 4th

message 71: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) Right then, just so that I can get my Kindle sorted, after Crippled God it's on to Mistborn: Final Empire.

Then when we are done with the Mistborn Trilogy that is four books we are onto First Law?

I will be taking the right fork in the group road with above series and not participating in WoT.

message 72: by Shelley (new)

Shelley (shelley69) | 597 comments I was wondering how the WoT series was selected? WoT is still at a tie with First Law Series?

Shell- I say why in message 59, but when they tied for 2nd there were various opinons posted in the poll thread. Instead of having a runoff between them, we decided to do First Law right after Mistborn

I will insert Alloy of Law before we start the First Law series.

Have we decided if we're adding Best Served Cold and Heroes to the other three books of First Law as well?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHAAAAAA....at least we still have a NEW Malazan tome to read yet!! :) It's great knowing there will be more books from SE/ICE in the future!!! :)

message 81: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) I have put CG down, I don't want it to end. That and reading The Terror which s Malazan sized

message 82: by Traci (new)

Traci How are you liking Dan Simmons? He's an author I keep looking at, thinking I need to just stop looking and try him.

message 83: by Shelley (new)

Shelley (shelley69) | 597 comments Lee wrote: "I have put CG down, I don't want it to end. That and reading The Terror which s Malazan sized"

You have to finish TCG Lee, you have too!!! Besides, if you're anything like me, you'll end up rereading the last 200 pages again right away because you wont believe what you read!!!!!

message 84: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) Well the only reason I put it down was because I was ahead of y'all. I wanted to discuss in the group. I had already whipped through Orb, and I knew when I started CG I would struggle to stop.

So have picked it up again. 85% finished.

@ Traci, I have a love/hate relationship with Simmons, I thought Hyperion a wonderful read. I also hate every thing else he has done that I have read. Carrion comfort and Olympus spring to mind.

However, Terror is a really good read. Kind of Historical Fiction with a monster. It has plenty of theme, paced well (except the start is a little slow) and has some well developed characters. I am really beginning to hate one of them and was disappointed when another died, so that tells me I have engaged with the story.

Looking forward to Mistborn, but bearing in mind it is supposedly going to replace my Malazan read, that makes me nervous. Since June this year Malazan has been a constant every day occurrence. I have gone through the 10 (almost) Erikson and 4 ICE in that time. Every day.
Every day.

So, thinking of instead of going cold turkey, I reloaded GotM back on the kindle, so I could use it like a comforter.

Yes Lee, yes!!! :) You're gonna need it! Oh and a correction to you're statement above Lee, you've been reading Malazan since June of LAST year!!! LOLLLLL.... :)

message 86: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Risley (ElizabethRisley) | 228 comments Shows how out of it I am - I didn't know Alloy of Law was connected with Mistborn - the covers look much different. Isn't one of them steampunk? I'm confused. In any case - I'm glad about Mistborn and I'll worry about Alloy when we get there.

I'm about 115 pages in to Terror and I love it. He does such a good job with the setting that you can feel the cold coming from the pages.

The only other novel by Dan Simmons that I have completed is Ilium which I enjoyed but not enough to jump right in to the sequel, Olympos. Ilium did raise my interest in Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time. I have bought the first volume, Swann's Way (the Lydia Davis translation). I have yet to read it.

Jack (Pernicious) | 2 comments I have just joined this group here and in the spirit of sharing I would like to nominate a series that I have not seen posted as of yet, the third book should be out ...soon and they have been very enjoyable for me, this is the bastards set and should be like 5 books or so, as soon as its released I will set asside what book...book's, I am reading at the time and start again in this world. message 89: by Jack (new)

Jack (Pernicious) | 2 comments Hi' I noticed the author Dan simmons on your post and iut set me trying to think of what novel I read of his that stood out for me, after much searching I finnaly found the book (much relief) kind of like the tune' that you cant get out of your head but have no idea what song... anyway I read this a long time ago but this has always gave me a "creepy" feeling and he expressed the story of the "power" and what some might do with such abilities, the book is http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11... I decided to post this link as other readers here have opinions, If you would I have forgoten Dan simmons and have not read much of his work, I would appreiciate your recommendation on his other work's.

message 90: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) Jack, welcome to the group.

Sorry to break the news to you, but we've already selected our next three series to read.

I'm going to close this thread to avoid further confusion to newcomers.

Thanks for joining and I hope you enjoy the series we're reading and plan to read over the next few months.

Jon
