Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments Thought I'd start a variation on the "What Else Are You Reading" thread with a comic-centric theme.

I just got caught up on Walking Dead. I was about 5 issues behind. Just grabbed the first issue of . Think they are up to the 3rd issue already so I'll have to ask my local comic man to hunt the other two up for me. Also catching up on . Thinking about picking up the new comic by Brian K. Vaughan creator of "Ex Machina" and "Y: The Last Man" comic series.

I know we have a few comic readers. Chime in.

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments Just finished the latest volume of Gunslinger Girl -- imagine Dollhouse with the creep-factor cranked all the way up by having the the Dolls be crippled ten year old girls who are turned into cyborgs to kill terrorists. Now I'm working on A Certain Scientific Railgun 3 about a superhero with the power to accelerate metallic objects to relativistic speeds.

Procrastinador Diletante Well, I have monthly orders but the comics I liked the most were:
- Justice League - great reboot of the series, one of my favorites so far in these new DC releases.
- The new Daredevil series - amazing art by Paolo Rivera and it's nice to see DD return to his daily, more or less normal, crime-fighting.
- The last issue of Punisher Max! And what a run it was :) Violent and raw as Punisher should be, with a great ending.
- The Walking Dead Issue #94 - don't need to express how awesome this is...
- Also enjoying this adaption - The Strain #1. Very well done.
- The Twelve Volume 1 Premiere HC - final numbers coming out after waiting for ages! Awesome pulp heroes comic, with a brilliant story written by J. Michael Straczynski.

I didn't know they were doing a sequel. I am bummed that it's not available on the Comics app for iPad yet.

I can see this thread adding to my ever growing "to read" pile ;-)

Still catching up on The Walking Dead, I'm 6 issues behind. As much as I like the TV show, the comic is way superior and goes to places the TV show will never go.

Also reading Locke and Key, Vol. 5: Clockworks &

Paul Perry (pezski) | 493 comments My housemate has just chucked three graphic novels at me to read - Black Summer, No Hero and Supergod. He happily admits to being one of Warren Ellis's bitches.

I also recently picked up Logicomix, and keep meaning to read The Compleat Moonshadow.

For some reason, Kirkman has put the back story for Michonne in the latest Playboy. Well I like to know the complete history of all my favorite characters in Walking Dead so I will have to buy it and read it for the articles. Yeh .. that's the ticket. The articles.

Mike | 43 comments Where do you guys look to find out about new releases in graphic novels? I am just starting to get into them and am looking for a source for info.

Has some information on new releases.

Just found this one. Looks to be pretty comprehensive.

My local comic book store also lists all the new comics they get in each week on their website. From there I just google the names if I want to know more.

Here are a few of the publisher release calendars. I haven't check all the publish sites yet.

message 9: by Procrastinador (new)

Procrastinador Diletante Over here, since we get our comics monthly, we check the Diamond Comic catalog and order. I'm guessing most stores will have it? It's called "Previews".

You can also check their site for the new releases:

Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments Just finished World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen. Picked up by Stephen King and his son Joe Hill and Mark Millar's new comic series . Plan on reading Road Rage and Super Crooks this weekend if I get a chance.

message 12: by Remington (new)

Remington | 38 comments I just finished re-reading American Gods and now I'm going to start on A Princess of Mars. The John Carter movie raised my interest in the Barsoom series so I thought I would give the first book a try.

Wrong thread. This is for comic books. Though I know there is a John Carter comic out now. Not sure if there is a American Gods comic or not.

message 14: by Leighann (new)

Leighann (zhelenstilo) Well, if we're welcoming manga here too, I just got some new translation assignments the other day, so I'll have some comic-type reading to do in the near future. Specifically Kimi no Tonari ni Aru Tame Ni (¾ý¤ÎëO¤ê¤ËÔڤ뤿¤á¤Ë), Koi No Hanashi Ga Shitai, and Kakuu no Hibi (¼Ü¿Õ¤ÎÈÕ¡©). ^_^

message 15: by Remington (new)

Remington | 38 comments Ha. Whoops. Wrong thread. As far as comics go I've ben reading Walking Dead, Chew, and Scalped. I'm so bummed out that Scalped is ending soon. It is one of the greatest comics I've read in a long time.

message 16: by Remington (new)

Remington | 38 comments Also, has anyone here been reading Saga by Brian K. Vaughn. It is his latest sci-fi epic and I've heard nothing but good things about it. I'm waiting for it to be collected before I read it.

It was a bit short. Her backstory deserved a whole issue. But still cool.

Spoiler below for "The Walking Dead" latest TV episode (March 18th)

Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments On the advice of the ign comics run

I picked up , , and .

I've not read the Crossed or any of its spin off comics but I've heard they are a little tough to stomach. So not sure if I'll keep a pull on Badlands or not. Also grabbed Walking Dead #95.

message 19: by Procrastinador (last edited Mar 29, 2012 08:47AM) (new)

Procrastinador Diletante I gave up on Crossed after 2 issues eheh Basically just stands out for the bloody violence, apart from that, it's your normal infected/zombie world story.

Avatar Press does have some great titles though, in my opinion, like:
Anna Mercury Volume 1: The Cutter
Ignition City Volume 1

Metzen is supposed to be working on fighting pandas. Where is he getting the time to do a comic book?

message 23: by Mike (new)

Mike | 43 comments Thanks for the heads up on Crossed, I turfed it from my wisest and added Green Wake instead. Thanks to Nick pointing me in the direction of comics resources I a picked up and am reading:

Locke & key vol 1
Batman: year one
American vampire vol 1
Captain America omnibus brubaker

If you know you are going to read all the Walking Deads up to the present issue then I'd grab the Compendium instead of getting the trade paperbacks. Get the omnibus volumes after the issues the compendium ends on.

I think that is right. I read the compendium and grabbed the trade paperbacks after I finished reading that though I think the omnibus vols cover 2 or 3 of the trade paperback vols. Others feel free to correct assertions.

message 25: by Mike (new)

Mike | 43 comments That's right, I wasn't clear. I got walking dead compendium vol 1. I have seen season 1 and half season 2 of the amc version. So far, I like the book better (which is typical).

Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments Had to spend a little money to order over Amazon by Brian K. Vaughan since I had missed getting a issue at my local comic book store. Glad I did pick it up though. Read through it last night and it has a lot of potential. Really liked the first issue. Feels like a good setup for a story to come.

message 28: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 25 comments I just recently started The Walking Dead (again) and this time I am flying through it. I think I'm on issue #48 or something. Also I recently decided to try yet again to delve into X-Men. I've been trying to do it for a while there's just soo much stuff its intimidating! So currently I'm reading Grant Morrison's New Xmen and I finished the Joss Whedon Astonishing XMen and just started the Warren Ellis stuff. I also have plans to read the Dark Pheonix Saga and House of M and the list keeps growing! Like I said so much stuff it makes my head swim but I'm really psyched at the same time. Oh and also I've been reading Buffy Season Eight.
