Thats a shame ...I was uncertain about The Bone Garden at first but it does gat better and make more sense, but it's definately not your normall Tess Geritsen, I found it interesting and scary that the doctors back then didn't realise they where to blame for killing hundreds of women , just because they didn't wash their hands

I'm not sure I do. "Dancing" had a certain feeling of working backwards and so far, I don't feel like I needed to know anything in advance to enjoy English Creek. I'm only about halfway through English Creek though.

OTOH, there's a certain continuity in the settlement of the area.

That's a long way of saying that I suspect it doesn't matter.

Last night I finished Home Free & Deja Vu by Fern Michaels. Another good book in one of my favourite series.

I think you will both enjoy this biography. The reason why his novels feel so real is that they are based on real life experiences. Much is in fact not fiction! He puts in his novels so much of what has really happened to himself and his family.

I finished Ballad of the Whiskey Robber, very unique recording, I thought it was great. Then listened to 2 shortish books, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (fun) and The Book Whisperer (brilliant).

Now I'm listening to The Beekeeper's Apprentice. It's not grabbing me like I thought it would, I am hoping I can get more into it today.

I remember the miniseries. Robert Mitchum played Pug and Ali McGraw unfortunately played Natalie.

Just finished listening to Last Night at the Lobster, tale of the final day of operation of a Red Lobster in Connecticut, from the point-of-view of the manager. I had feared it might be depressing, but really wasn't ... a bit sad perhaps. Writing quality is enhanced by the terrific narration.

As I mentioned i a previous thread, I write not reviews but more my opinions of books which I have affected me one way or the other. Quiet: The Power of Introvers in a World That Can't Stop Talking was such a book. You can read my thoughts on it in message 214 in this thread.

Or, what I really wanted to let folks know about is a little trick I use to find out more about what the group is discussing about a regarding a book of interest to me. In the upper right rail of this page, there is a "search" box. In this example, I would type in the word "quiet" and find all related posts with that word in it and viola, I can see everything related to that book that I may have missed or forgotten. Really simple but I wanted to ensure everyone knew about it as I find it tremendously helpful.

Just finished "Escape from the Deep" by Alex Kershaw. A timely reminder of the costs and sacrifices our veterans gave for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Started listening to "Dead Tomorrow" by Peter James. It has already got me going. Pretty good so far.

I'm listening to Lirael (fantasy), narrated by Tim Curry. Really good so far although the main character is a bit morbid.

My fun and happy book decision was The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by, Christopher Healy narrated by, Bronson Pinchot I don't know if I'll be able to do this book justice in a review I just want to gush. It is hilarious and the narration is so perfect!

This book will be a perfect family vacation road trip book!

Since I took today off to enjoy a long weekend and only had few more days left before I had to turn my audiobook in, I finished off "Dead Tomorrow", by Peter James, narrator not identified (www.goodreads.com/book/show/6061545-d...).

Quite a suspense building book with a dark ending, James does an excellent job of building up the story to the finale. This is an British crime novel with an english narator. Some terms, ranks, procedures may be different, but I had not problems.

Chrissy, I loved both Work Song and The Whistling Season by Doig; I read them both in print, and haven't tried any of his books yet on audio. I can get This House of Sky on audio at my local library, so I will try it, thanks for the lead!
Ellen, it was never my understanding that Dancing at the Rascal Fair was a prequel. When I read the trilogy, I read them in order, with English Creek as the first, and I thought they were in chronological order. If that is not the case, I sure missed it! I will have to check that out, and not sure how that would change my understanding of the story. I love hearing/learning these kind of things on ŷ������!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I love love love the Mary Russell books. I don't think that The Beekeeper's Apprentice is my favorite and it's not the one I started with, but I'm still fond of it.

I admit that I read this in paper before I really got much into audio, though Jenny Sterlin narrates all of them and does a very good job.

I'm actually reading Pirate King which is the most recent Mary Russell book (came out last year) right now. This is probably the least popular of the whole series for a variety of reasons, and as I'm reading it I'm tending to agree. Not very suspenseful or mysterious so far.

What put you off about it, if I may ask?

Yesterday I finished two Barbara Delinsky books. I finished More Than Friends and A Woman's Place. I enjoyed both of these books by one of my favourite authors. I gave both books 3 stars.

Sorry for adding this to an existing discussion but for some reason I kept getting a context error when I tried to start a new discussiong. But I have a problem and hoping someone can help.

I download a lot of my audiobooks from the library using Overdrive media console. In the past, I have never had a problem with WMA books, but now I am having a problem and I can't find any help on the Overdrive site. Here is the problem. I download them fine to my Windows computer, but when I transfer them to my iphone, they appear to be transferring but when done, I can't find them. When I go into iTunes with my iPhone connected, I click on books, and the book is there under the books tab on my iphone. However, when I then go to my iphone, click on music and click on Audiobooks, I get nothing. No book shows up. Sometimes when I'm downloading it creates a playlist with the title of the books, but then the next day the play list disappears. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm fairly technically adept and this is truly puzzling. Thanks for any help.

Denise - Look for the books in your music folder. They should be there with any MP3 audios you have. I think you should be able to put them in 'Audiobooks' by right clicking on the tracks and selecting 'Get Info', then click 'Options' and change the Media Kind to 'Audiobook'. If you do that, they should go all go to the Audiobook section.

After the iOS 5 upgrade, Overdrive also made an update so the WMA books don't show up in the 'Audiobooks section'. I haven't upgraded myself but a friend told me this happened.

I was concerned that The Book Whisperer would not work on audio...from your comment I guess I was wrong. I just got a copy from the library, but I'd prefer audio. I am very curious to know the approach this teacher used to change non-readers into readers. I find the longer I teach the more students dislike to read and more come to me reading below grade level.

My husband is a college professor (economics) and a couple of semesters ago he was shocked to learn one of his students had never read a complete book in his life. Then he started asking around all his classes and it seems that more and more of his students are in this group.

When I think back to what turned me into a reader, I think it was more boredom than anything else. Long, hot midwestern summers with nothing interesting on tv. Friends on vacation, parent working, no cell phones, no video games. Our children have not learned to concentrate long enough to become readers. It saddens me.

I could tell you stories...for example: 7th graders reading picture books for AR...the same picture books I read to my almost two year old twins. What makes it even worse is when they go to take the AR test they receive 20s, 30s and 40s. Note: AR is program used in many schools throughout the US to aid in forcing students read.

I think that is a great idea. I finally found a FAQ on a site and got some advice ther. It took me all day to download a book as some parts downloaded and some didn't and I had to keep trying over and over.

Theft weren't in the music folder. They show up in the books folder and then a playlist is created and the book ends up as aplaylist. The problem is all parts don't download and you have to keep going back and retrying. I finally got it downloaded but it literally took me all day. Whatever they did to change the download in the new iOS is not as good as what they had before which worked beautifully

Denise, I have had huge troubles with getting my audible books over to my Ipod. It is like, the instructions are just so lacking. Finally, finally, finally it works fine for me. Don't give up! persistence pays off.

John, it certainly would be good with a thread for Ipod/Itunes/Audible computer difficulties.

I just finished Angelology. I really liked the book until the end. It was not apparent that this would be a series - but the ending left no doubt. I hate that.

But the narration was GREAT.

Just started The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I'm having a hard time getting into it an following who all the different voices/letter writers are...

It was great on audio but I'm thinking of getting the hard copy as I think it will be a fantastic reference. The gist of it is she tries to make her students readers, not teach them "great books". She gives them the freedom to choose whatever books they want to read, within certain genres (5 books in fantasy, 2 books in historical, etc). There's more to it, but that's the main point.

Hi Regan. I think I would like the book if I was in the mood for fiction. I just couldn't concentrate on it at all. I'd hear snippets and think "Oooh, that's interesting", but then my mind would wander and I'd realize I just "listened" to several chapters without really hearing anything. I switched to non-fiction and am not having any problems, so I just need to wait until I'm in the mood for some fiction again.

Compared to my sansa clip my ipod touch is 10 times slower/more difficult to load audiobooks on (unless it is an mp3 Overdrive which goes directly onto my ipod touch). Not sure why the little sansa is 5 times cheaper yet 5 times easier to use!

Heidi, I need the Ipod because I have poor vision. I chose it because I can tap on it and it speaks. It is not necessary to be able to read anything on the screen. Don't you get Overdrive from libraries? I don't have a library to download it from. Furthermore the "sansa clip" was not even available for purchase here in Belgium. I did try and check it out before I purchased my Ipod. For most people your solution seems marvelous!

I would like to know what Wendy thinks of it also as I have a copy and am undecided about whether to read it. I recently listened to Serena and was one of those not impressed. Can't believe they are making it into a movie. It didn't help that it was narrated by Phil Gigante who is also not one of my favorites...to me, his female voices sound ridiculous.

Janet, yeah, the reviews on Serena are mixed. Several of my friends were very disappointed.
