I have started reading and am enjoying the book! The story is about Lucia who belongs to a tight knit family in the 1950s. She is struggling with pressure to marry a nice Italian but wants to continue working because she loves her job as a seamstress. Of course being a wife is full time and there is no way to have a happy marriage if she works instead of ironing his clothes :) She seems pretty independent with a close bond to her family she doesn't want to break or change. I'll wait to say more once other have started.

I finished the book! I can't wait to discuss with anyone else who is reading this!

Monique (thebeautygirl) i'm about 75% throught the book and really enjoying it. i love imagining NYC in 1950 and all of the fabulous styles of clothing that women and men wore back then...

i think Lucia is just as her father said...she sees the beauty in everything and that of course is seen on the outside. it does seem to sometimes distract her.

i like to think that the reason she doesn't really describe the clothes her friends/family wears is because they most likely wear a lot of the same things. :)

I agree with wanting more fashion in the book. I would have like to know more about her work environment. I think she was looking for someone who would let her be her when really she was better of with out anyone except her family in the social world she was in.

I loved the 1950s atmosphere too. I really felt immersed in it. And the contrast between the sophisticated world she worked in and how naive she felt after that relationship spectacularly broke.
