Hey Nick, I just peeked at your shelf and noticed you don't have Mistborn on there - I actually think NotW and Mistborn are very similar in a number of ways. It is this month's read which is almost over but that doensn't mean you can't read it anytime. You can always post afterwards. Check it out I think you will enjoy!

I agree with Robin about Mistborn The Final Empire. They both have a very well thought-out system of magic that makes the magic seem more like science. I've always been into science fiction more than fantasy, so these are the kinds of fantasy that really appeal strongly to me. I also love that they're not the stereotypical epic quest type books.

Have you tried out L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s Recluce series? Starts off with The Magic of Recluce but the books do not need to be read in order. (It is recommended though.)

I read a few of Modesitt's books, some Recluce and some in the Timegod series. Can't say I liked the Recluce books much, so much emphasis on balance that even if the hero won he wouldn't do much.
For systems of magic and some humor try the Yurt books by C. Dale Brittain, starting with A Bad Spell in Yurt, followed by Wood Nymph and the Cranky Saint, Mage Quest, The WITCH & THE CATHEDRAL, Daughter of Magic, and Is This Apocalypse Necessary?. Daimbert graduated last in his class in the Wizard's School, they never do tell us about what happened with the frogs on the transformation practical, but that doesn't stop him from doing what he has to do. Great hero, and one of the few series that doesn't have Priests and wizards always opposed.

I just started The Name of The Wind, and so far I'm enjoying it very much.

Modessit is one of my favorite authors. He only has a few characters & his worlds all have a real similarity in low resources with ecological overtones, but it fits me well. I can certainly see where it wouldn't fit others, though. Still, I find his magical & SF systems very interesting. He's a relaxing read, too. Interesting, captivating & it flows well. There isn't any 'work' in reading his books.

I did like this book - but there is something about it I did not like - I'll ave it for the convesation next month. Looking forward to talking to others about it.
