Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments This will be our summer read. If anyone wants to lead let me know or else I will lead the discussion. Who is in?

I'm in. And Meg, I am thrilled that you picked this one (of the two top vote getters) to read first. Infinite Jest scares me! (especially having just finished Ulysses!) :o)

Beth | 163 comments Oh my gosh! Yay! I'm definitely in!!

message 4: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Yay!

message 5: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stcyct) | 66 comments I once again will try to be in and not fall behind! I have a better chance since it is summer and I have most of August off.

message 6: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I have down time so I would love too try too.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) holy cow, this is 1400 pages.

LOL! Yep, which is why this is going to be a "Chunky" read! Though maybe we should call it "Obese"! :o)

message 9: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm reading this in September with another group. I may get started early and join in here, too (although it won't be until August).

message 10: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments This will be a great group, I am excited. Next book will be the encyclopedia from A to Z

message 11: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Meg that should be nothing for you that read Ulysses and are going to read A Suitable Boy. ;)

message 12: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments But we are going to have to read it backwards to keep up the challenge

message 13: by Laura (new) - added it

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments I may join in on this one....I picked this up late last year and the writing seemed a bit flat. Not sure if I'll finish, but I may try and at least start it with you guys.

message 14: by Laura (new) - added it

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Meg, when are you planning to start? July or August?

message 15: by Marialyce (new) - added it

Marialyce If it is in August, I can join in,on this book as well.

message 16: by Marialyce (new) - added it

Marialyce If you are reading it in August, I can join in.

message 17: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I think we need a breather from the tome we just finished, so the first of August is looking good. I have to find a book so I can set up the reading schedule.

message 18: by Laura (new) - added it

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Hmm, I guess it could go thru October, then?

message 19: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments maybe, unless we read fast, I don't know the book so I don't know how readable it is

I think an August start sounds good. It doesn't look like A Suitable Boy is available as a kindle/ebook edition, so everyone interested will need to round up a real copy of this book.

Since it was first published in 1993 though, there should be plenty of inexpensive used copies out there for people who do not want to splurge for a new book. I ordered a used copy from Amazon. :o)

message 21: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I ordered a used copy from Amazon as well, the shipping was more expensive than the book! ($3 for shipping)

message 22: by Laura (new) - added it

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments I've decided not to do this one, but may do the next.

Irene | 4526 comments Count me in

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Since it's starting in August, I'll give it a try. Hopefully, I can keep up. :)

message 25: by Marialyce (last edited Jul 01, 2012 07:43AM) (new) - added it

Marialyce For those who need to buy the book, betterworldbooks.com has it for $3.98 and free shipping.

message 26: by Petra (new)

Petra With an August start, I'm definitely in on this read.

message 27: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I just ordered this, so I plan to join in.

message 28: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments What a great groups!

message 29: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I got mine today. I think my wrist is broken.

message 30: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Too funny!

message 31: by Stacy (last edited Jul 05, 2012 04:45PM) (new)

Stacy (stcyct) | 66 comments I got mine today as well...it is going to be a workout just to hold it while reading! I took a look at the first couple sections and it seems like a pretty easy read. I've already made it further than I did in Ulysses!

message 32: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Ha ha Stacy. I am still waiting patiently for mine. I hate when they promise delivery on a certain date and have no intention on keeping their word,

I just got my used, hardcover copy. Dang! I set it on my postage scale, and it weighs 4 1/2 lbs! LOL

I know! I knew when I saw the size of the amazon box alone I was in big trouble!

message 35: by Marialyce (new) - added it

Marialyce So, the UPS guy is going to need a forklift to deliver it to my door?

message 36: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Just think how buff we will be when we finish reading it!

message 37: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Uh Oh.. I ordered mine from Better World Books with 8 other books..

message 38: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stcyct) | 66 comments I don't have a ton of faith in the paperback glue's ability to hold this guy together :)

message 39: by Vicki (new)

Vicki It wouldn't be the first book I had held together with rubber bands and binder clips. My copy of Great Gatsby had pages falling behind me as I was teaching.

message 40: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Someone said that this book was very readable.

That will make it a plus over Ulysses then! :o)

Catherine Robertson I loved A Suitable Boy, and ripped through it. Wasn't so keen on An Equal Music, though.

message 43: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sandee) | 328 comments okay...it's summer and I am off of work. There is no reason why I cannot read this one...oh, that horrid dissertation that I am working on...lol. Ulysses didn't do it for me. I tried it all...audible book version...I got the best sleep of my life. I will order this book.

message 44: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Funny Sandra it didn't help with my sleep at all!

message 45: by Meg (last edited Jul 11, 2012 04:45AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Sorry the reading schedule is taking so long but my book hasn't arrived yet, probably no one at the post office could figure out how to lift it.

So if anyone wants to start reading without the schedule posted, let's plan on reading approximately 150 pages or if anyone can let us know where a chapter break is around there those lucky enough to have the book can start reading!

message 46: by Marialyce (new) - added it

Marialyce That's funny, Meg. My book also has not arrived and I was wondering if someone got hurt trying to lift it!

message 47: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Where did you order it from Meg and Marialyce?

message 48: by Meg (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Used from Amazon

message 49: by Marialyce (new) - added it

Marialyce I got it from Better World books.

message 50: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I ordered mine from better world books. I love them, but their shipping takes awhile. Generally amazon is better, but I have been trying to get books to plan for next year and two sellers haven't shipped the books weeks after I ordered them.
