Do you venture from the genres of Crime, Mystery, Thriller or Suspense? If you do, what do you read? Is it non-fiction, biography, comedy, sci-fi or fantasy? List your current reads here, whatever they are!

message 2: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I'm currently trying out an author that I see great potential in and that's S.J. Bolton and her book Now You See Me

Also a book that blends scifi with the old detective genre with Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey

Really enjoyed that one Michael, S.J. Bolton is a great author:)

message 4: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Currently reading The Night Lamp by Carol A. Spradling which would probably be considered drama/romance.

I read just about everything! Mostly stick with fantasy, but I've been known to devour a good mystery, suspense, crime or thriller book every now and then!

I'm currently reading Don't Ever Get Old by Daniel Friedman

He's an ex cop, 35 years ex! And thinks he's still 'got it'!! Quite enjoying it so far:)

I can't wait to get to Cold Grave...soon, soon!

message 9: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie A Hemorrhaging of Souls by Nicola Furlong - it seems to be a bit of a crime/psychological book about suicide. Interesting so far. 1/4 through

I'm reading Victims by Jonathan Kellerman and about half way through..it's very good!

message 11: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (butbooksarebetter) Listening to the audio book version of "Black Water" by T. Jefferson Parker - it's really good so far. Haven't read any of his books before.

message 13: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) How do you decide what to read when you have hundreds to choose from? Often it's a little guilt, like with my current choice The Deep Blue Good-bye by John D. MacDonald , I just felt like I really should read another author from my HRF Keating project so picked this over something else, when perhaps I really wanted to read the something else.

On the subject of that book, has anyone else come across these "Library of Crime" editions that are bound with a soft leather jacket?

message 14: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie I find for the books I've received from the author in return for a review it's in date order, so that takes me up to about #45-50 on my TBR list. After that, it's based on what I feel like reading whenever I finish the last book. I trawl through the 1600 books or so I have periodically and move things around from time to time.

Currently reading Instant Preplay by Karl Fields - Quite light and playful YA book.

Ummm....that's what your comment did to my head. 1600 books on your TBR list?! There must come a time when you just want to make a bonfire from the weight of all those books begging to be read?

message 16: by Michael (last edited Aug 01, 2012 10:36PM) (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Ouch! I don't like being over 100 on my TBR

message 17: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) I've given up adding everything on my TBR to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, it's kind of off-putting. At least I can revel in the large piles of books that I own, breaking it down to a statistic online takes away a bit of the fun.

message 18: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie I guess I think of it as more of a challenge! I WILL read all those books and more! :D I keep adding too! It's a bit of an addiction really!

message 19: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Now that I can relate to.

message 20: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 I've just picked up a paranormal mystery Opal Fire by Barbra Annino - has a chick lit element as well.

message 21: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Currently reading The Golden Scarab (The Quest Series - Book 1) by S.W. Lothian - it is a YA adventure. Not too bad so far!

Finally back on track for my goal of 110 books read this year too! Yay! That is one of the few good things about being sick! Lots of reading time.

message 22: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11706 comments Mod
Sorry you've been sick Lynxie...hope you're on the mend now?

message 23: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Not quite! Sinus infection now, only 8 days after the flu and tonsilitis! This winter has knocked me down and then kicked me in the ribs!

Oh well! I will get better (drugs from the Dr are working) and then keep on truckin'

I finished Victims by Jonathan Kellerman earlier. Great read! My review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

message 26: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Currently reading Flag of Bones The voyages of the Dragon Wynd (Book one the shallows) by Elle Pepper

The Golden Scarab (The Quest Series - Book 1) by S.W. Lothian got 3 stars.

message 27: by Sally906 (last edited Aug 03, 2012 11:15PM) (new)

Sally906 Just finished Opal Fire and if you like paranormal mysteries with a dab of humour then I recommend this one for you :)

Still on holidays till early next week so review to follow :)

message 28: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) I just read my ninth choice from the Crime and Mystery: The 100 Best Books, The Green Ripper. A decent enough read. 9 books out of 101! This project is going to take me forever at this rate.

message 29: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I wish I knew what was in that book, I might have to buy it and see how many of the 100 I've read

message 30: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) I posted this for Cliff over in the golden age thread:

According to my "to buy" list i still have 61 to find.

the 101st book isn't mentioned on this list but it is Under a Monsoon Cloud which was the most recent Keating novel at the time of publication and chosen by his publisher for inclusion.

message 31: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I didn't see that, will check it out

message 32: by Michael (last edited Aug 07, 2012 11:59PM) (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Wow, I have a lot of work to do, I've only read 8

message 33: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Im intrigued by Edwin Drood. I bought it and it just finishes mid-sentence when Dickens died

message 34: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I've been trying to get my hands on The Bride Wore Black by Cornell Woolrich, I really should just get the paperback

message 35: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) The movie adaptation was bizarre but im yet to read a woolrich due to scarcity of secondhand copies

message 36: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) It's really hard to find a copy of the book :(

message 37: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Recommended to be as a bleak western noir of sorts Welcome To Hard Times is my first E.L. Doctorow and so far it's exactly what I wanted.

Completely off-topic I suppose but for me any time I read that a book features the IRA (amongst other things such as heavy drug content or 9/11) I immediately lose interest in reading the book. Is there anything that affects you in the same way?

message 39: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Not really! I will give pretty much anything a bash :) irrespective of content, it has to be 'catchy' otherwise I start to feel like I am asleep with my eyes open! :)

Do you get many "did not finish" books lynxie?

message 41: by Lynxie (last edited Aug 13, 2012 04:12AM) (new)

Lynxie No, I think I have 2 maybe 3. If I don't like it, it might take me a LONG time to finish it, but it has to be pretty terrible for me to not finish it.

Just checked, Darkly Dreaming Dexter (loved the TV show though) and Wicked are the only two I haven't finished.

message 43: by Lynxie (new)

message 44: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Thats dedication.

message 45: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie I try to give every book the attention it deserves :)

message 46: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I've decided to start reading Mystic River to help get the conversation going

message 47: by Shelleyrae (new)

Shelleyrae at Book'd Out | 46 comments I'm just finishing A Deeper Darkness by JT Ellison

A Deeper Darkness by J.T. Ellison

message 48: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) From the many book buying expeditions I've had recently I've developed a pile of books I must read immediately, having got through two in relatively quick time I've moved on to another seemingly forgotten American classic Fat City which was the basis for the excellent and seemingly forgotten John Huston classic movie of the same name.

message 49: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie I just read Lizzie's Journal by R.M. Voza which might come under mystery with a fairly heavy sprinkling of paranormal and YA thrown in. It was good, but not great. I gave it 3 stars
