I really liked The Fault in our Stars too but it's not my preferred type of book. But it was really well written and thought out.

Sarah I enjoyed that one too.

The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson. A very different book written about madness (including scientology!) from a journalist point of view.
Also finished The Murderer's Daughters which I thought was an interesting concept, and I devoured the book, but it wasn't deep enough for me.

I've just read Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire.
I liked it until I read some bad reviews which were saying that this book doesn't give a good message to readers and it's about an abusive relationship but people just can't realise. Now I don't know what to think about it.
Maybe I am too voluble?

Books are a very personal experience, and nothing will please everyone. I think you should review the book based on your own reaction to it -- then, when you read other's reviews about it, you have already written your unbiased review. You can always go back and revise if you feel like it.
I haven't read Beautiful Disaster yet, but it's one I've been hearing mostly good things about.

You're right.. nothing will please everyone. We all have different tastes and different reactions to everything.
Thanks for answering, I will follow your advice :)

I am now reading Men-ipulation: A Memoir of Addciton and Recovery and it's going quite pleasantly.
I would just like to add that

Can't help but love that update on Men-ipulation. I've never heard anyone describe a book on recovery and addiction as going quite pleasantly. Thank you Sarah, you're a joy to read.

I really wanted to enjoy Eragon... so many folks that I know really got into the series. I couldn't finish it, but blamed it on being my first audio book and thought maybe it was the medium.

I believe the last book I read before that was Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness. It was amazingggggg. I loved all the books in this trilogy despite them not being anything I imagined I would be interested in. I couldn't stop reading and would go from 8% to 79% on my Kindle in one night because I just couldn't stop. And then I'd say, "Well, I might as well finish it since I'm this close" and stay up until 2am.

i normal won't say this but you guys all have to check out the book when it comes out. its gonna be the next best thing i found him on FB so if you think this story might be for you, add and keep up to date... i can't wait for the series to comt out

I am glad you enjoyed it. Good read.

The author skillfully puts you a position of seeing the events about to take place. You want to scream at Harry. I was so frustrated. It was like watching an accident about to happen and you are helpless to stop it. I highly recommend this one to all lovers of mystery/thrillers. Just don't read it right before bedtime.

Hanging Hill
This was my first book from James Rollins.. Loved it...
Hanging Hill was good, but did not enjoy it as much as her other book Birdman

Thanks. I'll try it.

I loved this book when I read it years ago and was anxious to reread it. I love William Goldman, he's a great writer, of both novels and screenplays including 'Marathon Man', 'Butch Cassidy', 'The Princess Bride', 'Magic', 'Heat'.
Anyway I HATED the main character this time out! I think now we were always meant to hate him but I didn't see that before. This time I found him so full of self-pity I could not stand him.
However. Goldman is a great writer. And there were parts of the book that were as riveting as ever and he can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and that is no small feat!
I may reread his book, 'Control' soon. I remember that protagonist as being a lot tougher.
Sigh...

And the last phrase, my god, it just killed me...

Wow, that's too bad about this book. It is a good premise and sounds like a good read. It is something I would have liked to read, oh well, so many more books out there. lol

I just finished Ecery Day by: David Levinathan
and i was really disappointed with the ending. the boy should have tried to stay w/her and see how it went but did he?
Noooo, he had to leave her and move to another country.

Berta as a child lived with a wealthy Jewish family in Moscow (salons, balls - all upper class) but returned home in her teens to her family (being a grocer's daughter, lower class.) She falls in love with a handsome, smart, cultured wheat merchant and they live affluently -like her childhood. But trouble comes and her husband must flee. He desperately tries to convince his wife that she & the children must leave with him, but Berta refuses. Russia plunges into war and she loses everything, and realizes that she much find a new way to survive. Meanwhile her loving husband in America is doing everything he can to get his family out of the country and to America.

I liked the beginning. I wasn't thrilled with the middle. I really liked most of the last bit. It was really hard for me to review. I'm not sure I understand all the hype of it, but I still ended up liking it more than I thought. It took a couple days for it to sink in that I actually enjoyed it. I don't think I'll be running to see it though - I'll wait for it to come out on dvd.

I like it, especially the ending where each individual sees the way they want.
