Liz | -4 comments Hello everyone:
Historical fiction favorites of mine: The Help, The Kitchen House, Water for Elephants, The Chaperone, 11/22/63, Book Thief...etc.
Next week I will be driving on a VERY long road trip and I need a book to get me through about 16-20 hours. I don't know anything about audiobooks and am curious about any good road trip recommendations. I figure a great audiobook will help me get through the trip. I assume that some books may be better read than in audio, but that's just an assumption so that's why I'm asking.
Thanks in advance.
Liz

MissSusie If you haven't or even if you have I highly recommend Outlander by, Diana Gabaldon narrated by the wonderful Davina Porter..

The King's Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchyis fabulous..

Sarah's Key is very well done on audio...

The Widow of the South by, Robert Hicks is well done...

Rules of Civility was very good..

Margaret (readingwithmargaret) Anything by Margaret George, but they are pretty long. Over 40 hours, but so worth it.

State of Wonder
The Winter Sea
The Rose Garden
A Discovery of Witches
just to name a few...

JC (jmnc) | 499 comments I'm over halfway through listening to Fall of Giants by Ken Follett and LOVE the narration. I listen to a lot of audiobooks - probably about 3-5 hrs a day and this one rates near the top of the pile for a great book with amazing narration. Tt's 30 hrs.

Lori (glitzyrebel) I highly recommend these audio books: Outlander (32 hrs), Fall of Giants (40 hrs), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Peel Society (8 hrs), The Wednesday Sisters (10 hrs) and Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt (10 hrs).

Audible.com is a great place to get audio books...as a new member you will get your first audio book free.

Nice you said rules of civility. I am currently reading it, however, I've had trouble getting through it. Perhaps that one I could listen to on the ride there.

Chrissie Birds Without Wings(narrator John Lee) and Lolita(narrator Jeremy Irons) are absolutely excellent as audios.

Gary Lawrence The series of crime thrillers set in the time of Cromwell featuring the hunchback lawyer Matthew Shardlake by C. J. Sansom would be good company on a long trip. Matthew often has to ride long distances on horseback in seeking out the answers to puzzles set for him and the details of the customs of the times and the politicking in the reign of Henry the Eighth with religious feuding to boot make these either a good read or a listen.
