I just finished never-more in the maximum Ride series! I think I'll start it, but it may be a while before I have a lot of time to read it!

The Cinderella story is actually really old, and a Chinese version is one of the oldest. That's one of the reasons I thought this book was particularly interesting.

same with me!

Another one I liked a lot but did not love. I thought it did a really good job of mixing the old and new. Even though it was Cinderella it was still a fresh and unique story. And even without the Cinderella elements I would have liked it. And I did enjoy the romance a lot. Cinder and Kai were very cute. And believable. I liked how the romance was more than just an attraction to each other. I loved Kai. Though cannot really say the same for Cinder. It seemed like she made too many selfish and stupid mistakes to me. And she never seemed to care much for any of the troubles she caused. Shrug. Maybe because of what she was?
I liked the author and am looking forward to the next one. But - the end was a little sudden... wasn't it?

Ok so here's a challenge to all of you guys. The link to Cinderella is obvious but Meyer goes further than that- she links in elements of lots of fairy tales. It's cleverer that it appears! Spot the links to:
Snow White
Sleeping Beauty
Princess and the Pea
Rapunzel
Oh and why not - Cinderella
...and Beauty and the Beast!
I am absolutely terrible when it comes to these kinds of things. Which is kind of sad because I just finished the book. As in a few hours ago. But...
I'll guess that the Snow White link is the Evil Queen of Luna and how she came into power - I was a little reminded of other fairy tales when I read this.
Sleeping Beauty is really bugging me because it is only one of my favorite fairy tales, you would think I would at least get that one. But I'll guess it is either the desease or the needle that gives Cinder the plague?
And that is all I have got for now... except for the links to Cinderella itself of course.

Oh. And I have to agree with what you wrote about fairy tales. Reading Grimm's Fariy Tales I could not believe how flat the stories were. That's why I love books like this that put their own spin on the old tales and give us something new.

There are a few more Snow White links... :D
Any other suggestions :D
Well done - the plague 'sends the world to sleep' and I didn't think of the needle - she is 'pricked' at the same time that she comes of age (16 in the fairy tale) and here it's when her heritage is discovered.
@Brooke - go for it!
Snow White.... the evil queen is obsessed with beauty and has a thing with mirrors... ?

I'm happy to admit that I was wrong. I started the book and was excited to discover that the story line was somewhat based on Cinderella.
Kai and Cinder's relationship was wonderfully relieving. Unlike most dystopian novels where the romance seems to take over, Kai and Cinders love scenes were few and far between.
Despite the fact that I could predict it from the beginning, thumbs up to the 'Cinder being the lost princess' twist. It made her more valuable, forcing the story to continue into the next book.
While Kai's decision to chose New Beijing over Cinder was sensible, I was a bit disappointed. Throughout the book he seemed to be greatly in love with her and then not so much towards the end.
Reading those last few chapters, how Kai figured out that she was Cyborg and Lunar, how he reacted, was unexpected. I thought, like every other Prince Charming, that he would see through her flaws and still love her. I guess it was realistic but I couldn't help feeling disappointed. Although the book followed the Cinderella storyline to some end, it certainly didn't have a fairy tale ending!

Cinder was a great start to the series, I loved her character - not the typical damsel in distress one would expect - she's down to earth, and can kick butt when needed. It was a good page turner. But my favourite out of the series so far has to be 'Cress'...
I like how Marissa Meyer's work has been inspired by characters from old fairytales to create an unforgettable adventure of her own.

Usually some stories do the whole fairtytale thing to death and aren't really doing anything new. But Cinder? She was a friggin' cyborg!!! And the place is so detailed that I actually want to move to New Beijing and never come back.
I didn't find the story to be slow at all, maybe it's just how fast I read. I don't know. But I just adore this book!
