I just finished never-more in the maximum Ride series! I think I'll start it, but it may be a while before I have a lot of time to read it!

Lexi (readinglush) What a great book, it was a spectacular portrayal of Cinderella. The next one should be just as lovely! :)

Annabel ♥ (cinnamonbliss) | 2082 comments Yes! I'm so excited!!!!!

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 72 comments Damn, I really want to read the next book... Scarlet!!!

message 15: by Kaya (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kaya I actually wasn't as in love with this as a lot of people. To me it felt like it was written by a fairly new and inexperienced author; I wasn't really able to form a complete mental image of Cinder until I was more than halfway through the book--don't even get me started on the supporting characters. Sometimes the sequence of events and storytelling got a bit disjointed, too. Still, you've got to give the author props for creativity. I didn't HATE the book, but it wasn't one of the more amazing ones I've read.

Rachel (bookwyrmrachel) | 7 comments Jenny wrote: "I really liked it. it was like a dystopian version of Cinderella except it was a Chinese one. I found it really good."

The Cinderella story is actually really old, and a Chinese version is one of the oldest. That's one of the reasons I thought this book was particularly interesting.

same with me!

Tonda Maurer (xoxotawnydee) I love the story of Cinderella, so I loved it from the start, but it was slow in some parts. I did like the idea of the illness though. That was an interpretation I never would have thought of. I can't wait to read the next one though.

Farhia (farhia97) | 105 comments One of the best fractures fairy tales I've ever read! Also, I live how the author incorporated the dystopian aspect into the story too

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Another one I liked a lot but did not love. I thought it did a really good job of mixing the old and new. Even though it was Cinderella it was still a fresh and unique story. And even without the Cinderella elements I would have liked it. And I did enjoy the romance a lot. Cinder and Kai were very cute. And believable. I liked how the romance was more than just an attraction to each other. I loved Kai. Though cannot really say the same for Cinder. It seemed like she made too many selfish and stupid mistakes to me. And she never seemed to care much for any of the troubles she caused. Shrug. Maybe because of what she was?
I liked the author and am looking forward to the next one. But - the end was a little sudden... wasn't it?

Anna | 151 comments I've just finished it and I was really impressed. A couple of things struck me: the characters are a little two dimensional, as is the world, but I think that may be deliberate- after all, Meyer is playing around with fairy tales (which themselves are two dimensional and full of archetypes and recurring motifs). incidentally, I really like the gender reversal of Kai as the 'prince waiting to be rescued'.

Ok so here's a challenge to all of you guys. The link to Cinderella is obvious but Meyer goes further than that- she links in elements of lots of fairy tales. It's cleverer that it appears! Spot the links to:
Snow White
Sleeping Beauty
Princess and the Pea
Rapunzel
Oh and why not - Cinderella
...and Beauty and the Beast!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I am absolutely terrible when it comes to these kinds of things. Which is kind of sad because I just finished the book. As in a few hours ago. But...

I'll guess that the Snow White link is the Evil Queen of Luna and how she came into power - I was a little reminded of other fairy tales when I read this.

Sleeping Beauty is really bugging me because it is only one of my favorite fairy tales, you would think I would at least get that one. But I'll guess it is either the desease or the needle that gives Cinder the plague?

And that is all I have got for now... except for the links to Cinderella itself of course.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh. And I have to agree with what you wrote about fairy tales. Reading Grimm's Fariy Tales I could not believe how flat the stories were. That's why I love books like this that put their own spin on the old tales and give us something new.

Brooke (brookeluvsbooks) I have this book but have been putting off reading it for some reason or another, now that I hear so many people like it I'm going to put it near the top of my reading list.

There are a few more Snow White links... :D

Any other suggestions :D

Well done - the plague 'sends the world to sleep' and I didn't think of the needle - she is 'pricked' at the same time that she comes of age (16 in the fairy tale) and here it's when her heritage is discovered.

@Brooke - go for it!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Snow White.... the evil queen is obsessed with beauty and has a thing with mirrors... ?

Kelsey Love love

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments Aghhhhh I really want to read this book, got it and Scarlet on my nook for a pretty inexpensive price but I need to finish les miserables first... 1200 more pages to go.... Yayyyyyy

Caroline (eegs321) | 20 comments haven't read Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer yet, but really want to!

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I'm currently reading Cinder and I really like it so far! I'm usually not a huge fan of third person, however, I find it very well written so far. My one complaint is the description. I'm having trouble picturing what each of the characters look like and I'm just now starting to get what exactly a cyborg is. But apart from that, it's got me hooked!

Marielle | 3 comments This book was really good to me!

message 33: by Mati (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mati (matiraine) | 4 comments I really liked this book. This was one of the few books I was actually a little glad I DIDN'T know what the main character looked like. It sort of made a sense of mystery to me. I know other books that would normally drive me crazy with, so not sure why I liked it so much this time. It did take some time to get into but I really enjoyed it once I did.

message 34: by taru (new) - rated it 5 stars

taru This is the first book that I really really really in love. Don't know why, maybe because of the different ideas and my favorite Cinderella type but it totally seized my heart. And Fairy tales step in technology world? I love Marissa Meyer's mind drawings. I'm new with reading books but I don't regret for this choice. Books are like when you close your eyes and step in a new world :)

Miriam | 1 comments This was really good! I really liked it! If it didn't have the excerpts of Cinderella at the beginning of each part I probably wouldn't have made the connection! Can't wait to read the next!

Sammy (sammyhope) | 406 comments I wasn't expecting this book to be anything special. For one the cover (I know, I know don't judge a book by it's cover, but sometimes that's what draws readers in) wasn't very captivating and for another I had the feeling it would be like any other teen fiction book-romantic, sappy, predictable.
I'm happy to admit that I was wrong. I started the book and was excited to discover that the story line was somewhat based on Cinderella.
Kai and Cinder's relationship was wonderfully relieving. Unlike most dystopian novels where the romance seems to take over, Kai and Cinders love scenes were few and far between.
Despite the fact that I could predict it from the beginning, thumbs up to the 'Cinder being the lost princess' twist. It made her more valuable, forcing the story to continue into the next book.
While Kai's decision to chose New Beijing over Cinder was sensible, I was a bit disappointed. Throughout the book he seemed to be greatly in love with her and then not so much towards the end.
Reading those last few chapters, how Kai figured out that she was Cyborg and Lunar, how he reacted, was unexpected. I thought, like every other Prince Charming, that he would see through her flaws and still love her. I guess it was realistic but I couldn't help feeling disappointed. Although the book followed the Cinderella storyline to some end, it certainly didn't have a fairy tale ending!

Donna (bibliocrazy) | 18 comments When I first started reading I thought , Oh this is a version of Cinderella. There are elements a mean stepmother and two stepsisters, but quite a different Cinderella. Cinder is a cyborg and Lunar. Of course the Prince Kia falls in love with Cinder. However, there is much more to this sci fi story. Book one is just the beginning of the Lunar Chronicles. Scarlet continues Cinder's story.

chinami | 139 comments loved it

-RininTa- (rinz) | 120 comments I love Cinder! At first it moved a little bit slow but then I took a pace. I really love how it ends differently from the classic Cinderella story - of course, the whole story also different. I really want to read Scarlet so bad!

Kayla Turner | 4 comments This is on my tbr list. I can't wait to read it! My friends and I have a little book club and this book is the next book we are going to be reading. I have been hearing a lot of good reviews on this book and my friends and I are very excited about it! When I'm done reading it I will tell you guys what I think of it. ;D

Priya | 50 comments I've always liked classic fairy tales, and sci-fi is my favorite genre. This was a perfect combination. Although, the end was a bit obvious.

message 43: by Mary (new)

Mary Martin I tried reading it but gave up...I found it so boring and slow moving. I might try and read it again sometime.

Tammie Tackett i am reading it now so far i like it

Ricky (spider-fan) It is...good. So good...

Kayla Turner | 4 comments I finished this book a couple weeks ago, and I LOVE it! It was very exciting and I couldn't put it down! As soon as I was finished I started to read the next one; Scarlet. There were some slow parts but the next chapter would usually pick back up again. And I also felt that the slow parts were necessary if you wanted to understand everything that was going on. Great book! I definitely recommend it anyone who is thinking about reading it! ;)

message 47: by Sameea (new) - added it

Sameea I can't get over the books! i'm waiting impatiently for 'Winter' to come out.

Cinder was a great start to the series, I loved her character - not the typical damsel in distress one would expect - she's down to earth, and can kick butt when needed. It was a good page turner. But my favourite out of the series so far has to be 'Cress'...

I like how Marissa Meyer's work has been inspired by characters from old fairytales to create an unforgettable adventure of her own.

Jen | 5 comments Such a good book. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. Wow. I cant wait to read the second! :D

Shannon Phelps (shaynic) | 6 comments I cannot stop talking about this book to anyone who will listen. It's just such an amazing series. I've loved it so much that I immediately bought the next two, devoured Scarlett, too scared to read Cress because I don't want to wait for Winter, and immediately tweeted Marissa Meyer because I was that obsessed.

Usually some stories do the whole fairtytale thing to death and aren't really doing anything new. But Cinder? She was a friggin' cyborg!!! And the place is so detailed that I actually want to move to New Beijing and never come back.

I didn't find the story to be slow at all, maybe it's just how fast I read. I don't know. But I just adore this book!

Sophie (soph1100) | 104 comments I love this book
My opinion is that everyone should read it
I can't wait till Winter comes out I'm counting the days
